Hello STMers!
I decided in the past week to launch a t-shirt store because I found out how amazing print on demand is, especially because everything is made in USA/EU.
I also wanted some tshirts for myself and couldnt find a design that I wanted, so I made them.. might be a stupid reason to start an ecommerce but I think doing is better than anything, especially for the learning experience.
the store is timelessvibe.com ,
I've read the cookbook and got to go with traffic ads, but the ads I made were just milking my budget and took me around 100$ to get one purchase! I was so happy somebody purchased a product!!! Even tho I was at loss.
So now other than your opinion on the store, I want to ask you a question: I want to create fb ads with conversion objective, paying per conversion only. I did set up many ad sets with a target/max bid of 10$ per purchase.
but look, no traffic to those ads:
I cant upload images, it says: Screen Shot 2018-07-06 at 11.36.30 PM-min.png - Exceeds your quota by 9.20 MB. Click here to view your attachments
so heres the URL: https://imgur.com/a/LtqqEDP
My question is, if I keep duplicating the adset and change targeting, will I be able to find the right targeting combination that will send me traffic with that bid that I set? (max 10$ per conversion) Or I need to be in a loss ALWAYS before finding a conversion campaign that works?
I have many ideas of targeting but I just wanna make sure my plan is achievable and that I will receive traffic, anyone ever did this succesful
Should I look at targeting abroad countries? the shipping gets expensive (12$ international shipping) but maybe I can target rich neighborhoods of capital cities and appeal to the fact that wearing american vintage images is cool...
I read in the cookbook that caurmen doesnt recommend doing conversion ads because of some optimization algorithm issue, but I didnt quite get that...
Thanks for your time and for any feedback you will share, I always learn cool things here!

Are these your designs or someone else's?
These are images that are creative commons, and are allowed to be used for commercial purposes.
I edited them a bit, then finally put a gradient to break the monotony and give some color.
nothing crazy design-wise, but I really wanted to test this idea.
no feedback? :s helpp
I don't have a ton of experience with FB yet, but will start the discussion and hopefully others will chime in.
First of all, there seems to be a sort of misunderstanding regarding what optimizing for "Conversions" means: It's not like when you're running CPA camps on pop traffic, where you're specifying a CPA that is acceptable to you and you'd only pay that amount for each conversion.
The reason why caurmen suggested against using conversion as the campaign objective, is because FB needs conversions in order to "learn" which subset of audiences (based on interest/behavior etc. etc.) are most likely to give conversions and to show your ad to more of the same. With a low test budget, you won't likely get the number of conversions required for this type of learning. So it would make more sense to just run "Traffic" instead.
I love how your store looks! I love the domain name and the branding. And the spin-to-win plugin looks very interesting indeed! What a great idea!
However - I'm concerned about the legalities of using potentially copyrighted images. Although the images are from creative commons, the Beatles brand (for example) may still have a copyright of some sort. You may want to consult with someone about that to make 100% sure before continuing to run traffic. I could provide some tips on targeting and on how to potentially improve your store, but none of that will matter unless we get that problem out of the way first.

I did a bit of research on google and found mixed opinions:
"The copyright to the photo image is owned by the photographer not by the image in the photo. So if the photo is of a celebrity, the photographer owns the copyright not the celebrity in the photo."
(Reference: https://www.amdlawgroup.com/how-to-u...opyright-laws/)
"Do not use an image of a recognizable person for advertising or promotional purposes ever, even if it was taken in a public setting, is available under a Creative Commons license, or is in the public domain, unless you have written permission. Using anyone’s image for commercial purposes violates that person’s right to publicity. You could be liable for damages, including punitive damages. In some states, these rights survive for up to 75 years after a person’s death."

Sorry to be introducing more confusion! I have zero experience with POD merchandise. Hopefully someone that DOES have experience in that area can shed some light on this!
Amy
oh wow! damn interesting!
Yeah matters like these are complicated, don't worry no confusion!
Just to be safe I'll get rid of all the images of a recognizable person
For the rest I should be allright for sure!
You said you have a few tips for targeting? Tell me!!
Haha you sure know how to simplify things! I was still mulling over that long after I finished replying.
For targeting: Taking the beatles tshirt for example, you can target older age groups, or even target by interest - people that have "the beatles" or 60s pop music for example. Or target people that have "liked" beatles fan pages.
As for your store: You can actually NOT send FB traffic directly to your store. Instead, you can created an independent funnel. Please see my summary of the book "Ecom Evolved" and read the section on "standalone funnels".
So a standalone funnel for the beatles tshirt could be like this:
-Sales page describing the tshirt, when and where the picture was taken (e.g. at a concert), etc. Don't include any other link on that page except the buy button.
-After the customer enters billing and contact info, present upsells and downsells. These can be another beatles tshirt (same tshirt for a loved one, or one with a different design but still the beatles), perhaps with the second tshirt at 50% off, or offer free shipping for 2 tshirts or more. Upsells can also be beatles paraphrenalia - jewelry etc. etc. You can probably find a million and a half suitable products.
Just some ideas.

oh wow the ecommerce funnel post is amazing!
I removed the beatles design since it might create a problem, but I will definitely try the tactics suggested in the book your reviewed.
And so traffic will be coming from Facebook ads, Traffic campaign? Better than the engagement posts?
And then ideally after XX conversions I can run ads optimized for conversions on fb. Right?
So what happens when you define the perfect targeting is that your cost per click drops to very low levels?
