The Kings of CTR! our non-affiliate ctr rivals..

Us affiliates are pretty swaggerful at our CTR capabilities, but we do have some competitors who can put up a good fight.

Our competitors run a mix of viral image/video type of sites and base 100% of their traffic on image link exchanges through middle men link exchange companies. To get more traffic they have to use the best images, sometimes with very unique angles.

The 2 largest middle man companies are
- mgid.com (EDIT: no longer available!)
- 2leep.com

Search around those sites and all the sites connected to them and you'll find a mass amount of images that will yield some crazy CTRs. The top ctr images are the smaller ones they use which are placed on other sites to get click backs. I've got some campaign angles from these sites as well.

I always wonder what the point of these guys are. Is it just basic traffic arbitrage?

mgid seem to be the daddy of these sites and basically offer traffic swaps, I think they offer 30 to 50% more return traffic for every unique the others sell. They have a widget that the others sites place which gives them the visitors.

Then of course they monetize it with the ads on the right of the site ( the bestsellers). Its $500 for 5000 clicks which is the entry point they quote though I think you can get this down with a bit of haggling.

For this they do all the artwork and copy for the ads as well in order to keep the site looking the same, although I think you can design your own as well.

These sites are awesome, but it's like trying to kill a hydra. Kill off one window and two spawn to replace it.

Thanks for the links all!

"These sites are awesome, but it's like trying to kill a hydra. Kill off one window and two spawn to replace it.

You can avoid that by only opening pages with the option "open link in new tab"

I always thought these sites were some kind of image CTR testing pages (on a grand scale) for FB campaigns or some sort of CPV arbitrage.

How did it turn out? "USA, UK, CA, AU – starting with 10 cents" - CPC that is.

Seems quite expensive to me since there's a lot of blind traffic at these traffic exchange sites.

But yeah, these are awesome for finding high CTR images.

I'm thinking that, even though wtf images like these will have a crazy ctr, the conversion rate are going to suck unless you are using some really creative angles for promoting?

Does anyone have a good idea on how to take advantage of wtf images, and still getting targeted clicks? :P

^ on the flip side especially w/FB is the higher the CTR the lower the Cost.. so even if your CVR drops to by say 20% and your EPC can be a lot higher

04-11-2012 05:14 AM #23 dr_ngo ()

Extremely high CTR = lower CPC. Sometimes the lower CPC will more than compensate for the weaker conversion rates. Test and track.

A lot of these images can be good for IQ quizzes...like "Is this real? Test your IQ"

Most of the time I look at these images for inspiration. What is it about the picture that gives it a high CTR? You can take the idea, and apply towards your own niche.
A rough example are those "1 weird belly trick" cartoon ads that were everywhere. You could apply the same idea and use it towards wrinkle or muscle builder.
