at what point is it worth to go to AWC & more?
Hello stackers,
I’ve been in the online marketing realm for a few years.
One of my goals this year was to get into paid traffic and start generating revenue in this category.
Two months ago I joined this forum and blindly picked the adult dating vertical as it was intriguing. In this two months period I’ve absorbed so much information alongside running these campaigns and all and I’m consistently earning 50-125 per day on auto pilot pop traffic after optimization.
I suppose I’m just trying to see if it’s worth going to conferences at this point. I’ve never been to any trade shows or conferences.
The biggest point I see is just being around like minded individuals.
Answer away, I feel like this question apply a to some other members here.

Yes. Once you have profitable campaigns, if travelling to the event doesn't put a dent in your cashflow, it's almost a must to go there if you want to continue growing.
If you haven't been to events much already, I would recommend doing some heavy networking and make good connections with people before and during AWE if you decide to go.
Another, but more unpopular, advice is to stay sober. Don't overdo it with the booze. This is so you remember stuff you talked to people. It's kind of pointless to meet people, then forget everything you've talked to them, all that valuable advice.

I wrote an article about this for my blog, check it out here : http://www.matuloo.com/awe-berlin-20...e-conferences/
Here is a quote from the article :
IT ALWAYS MAKES SENSE TO GO, FROM ONE REASON OR ANOTHER …
Every single show that I attended brought a few stories like this for me, it always gave me something, it’s never been time wasted. Quite often, it’s not the official schedule and events themselves that give you the most value, it’s about the people!
In order to get the most from a conference, you need to do your part too – people won’t approach you on their own and throw knowledge at you – you need to ask the right questions, walk with ears and eyes wide open … attend the good speeches, say hi to people who sit next to you… you never know who will give you the piece of information that you need.
Make sure to stop by the boots of the exhibitors too, working with an affiliate manager that you met in person is WAY easier than staying in the anon mode. Collect visit cards and reach out to them once you get back home. This is quite priceless for newbies who are commonly having problems to get accepted into new networks.
To put it simple and in a short way : it definitely makes sense to go, in case you're serious about this biz.

Thanks for all the responses and tips, I will be ordering my ticket tomorrow. I feel like I just have to say fuck it, and get outside my comfort zone. That's where the growth happens.

Manu brings a good point up, and it's something that can easily get overlooked in the excitement of your first show. Always have a plan first, connect with people beforehand (traffic managers, affiliate managers, STM members, people you're in skype groups with - set some meetings up.The exhibitors page for AWE was just launched, check it out, find which companies you want to connect with, download the app and make sure you mark down which speakers you want to learn from, and see if any of the STM mixers apply, as these are geared towards networking with people in your own niches.
Another really exciting announcement is coming that will help new attendees meet people right before the conference kicks off. Stay tuned

I hope you got that ticket man, or I'm gonna hassle you :P You've committed to yourself now, so will see in you in Barca!
Like Chaz said conferences really can be overwhelming, You should come to the conference with a little checklist in your pocket:
- Walk the entire meet market - anything adult related take some time and have a good conversion with the network/traffic source
- Look out as the conference draws near for any parties sponsored or hosted by adult networks/sources and RSVP them
- Mission to meet 3-4 other adult marketers minimum
- Don't be shy
Oh also when you do start talking with people don't just go straight digging into questions specifically adult related, just be a good friendly guy talk sh#t about everything all topics and you'll be surprised at how good some relationships you can get from these experiences.
Let what you do come out as natural discussion. Have your phone handy and write down contact details and always put a mini note next to the person so you know what the discussion was in relation to lol, which is handy if you wake up on the sidewalk the next day and you forgot that you met a potential mentor 7 beers deep at a party

Booya!
I'm fully committed now, just bought the ticket now. Will be focused on planning out the itinerary within this week, so no going back. Will be thinking of the best itinerary.
I'm thinking of extending my trip to 7 days so I can roam around and explore the city a bit.
Thanks for those points May, I'm going in there with a "no expectations" attitude. Whatever happens happens it doesn't matter.. I just want to absorb the vibes and feel out the energy of it all.

Going to trade shows helps you see the whole picture from top! Before I started to attend those events I was promoting adult paysites (Almost dead market!, Much harder than dating!) for 2 years. I was making some hundreds per day, some days +$100 and some rare days +$1500 and of course some Minus days! I thought I'm making a lot. I had no idea about any other vertical or traffic type. Didn't even know what Voluum is! Not even STM. My affiliate manager wanted to meet me and recommended AWE which I didn't even know! I was just working alone with a new interesting media buying journey I had discovered myself! Yes without tracker but NATS (Used by adult paysites) campaign names and manual calculations! No postback!!
After I attended AWE last year and the other trade shows later I realized where exactly I am! My head exploded with tons of new information! I tried a lot of verticals and traffic types and I learned where the real money is! (Native & Facebook) One year passed since then and right now I'm succeeding with Native on traffic sources I didn't even know before attending those events. Growing fast now, very fast! and I'm very happy I found the right path with much higher potential than what I was doing before. It was not a waste of money but in fact a big investment and I'm seeing the results now. I will also start my eCommerce shops later this year... If you can afford it then go for sure but don't try everything at the same time after you return back home! Focus, focus and focus on one thing you like most. You can only make it work if you focus.

IMO It's a bit hard to explain what a conference can do for your business until you go and feel it for yourself. I personally never realized the power of meetups and conferences until a few years into my online marketing business.
It's clear you'll meet like minded people, find new companies to work with, go to networking events, watch speeches... but you could easily do that all at home right?
...You can meet like minded people on STM, find new companies with google and forum searches, and find tons of video content and speeches on Youtube... but everything in person is 10x better, the relationships are stronger, the conversations are way more detailed, and good partnerships are usually formed with eye contact.
You meet so many people and your business grows in ways it can't grow by staying 100% online. Imagine how many friends you'd have if you only talked to them online, it's a similar concept.

Yeah makes sense 100% agree. Just booked my flight and in one of the official hotels. Super psyched. I'm going to most likely create a thread for people who are in my shoes attending for their first time and or anyone that wants to shoot the shit and have a drink.

Thanks for this post!
I am considering Early Bird ticket for AWC in Bangkok at the moment as I am really starting to learn the Affiliate Marketing side more seriously now and wanted to know if it would be worth attending. I am still a newb but a fast learner if I apply myself
