Hey guys,
While I've been working for the last 2 years with a laptop setup, I'm looking to invest in better technology.
So I want to ask, what is your preferred desktop and laptop you currently use and why?
I prefer Windows over Mac, so if any Windows users can chime in with their suggestions on what they use and why, I'm open to hearing your opinions.
I'm a tech guy and so I like the high-end performance stuff and also because I'm a power user.
I own a Dell XPS 9560 15", MacBook Pro 15" and a custom built beast (desktop) with two 25" monitors for a lot of screen real estate.
To be honest, I use them all interchangeably depending on my mood and if I'm energetic / lazy for the day.
The MacBook definitely has that "premium" type of experience when working on it, but all of them have outstanding build quality and performance.
I usually use whichever is best for what I'm doing. But at the end of the day it all downs to personal preference.
I don´t place much value on having always the newest devices or so, for me important is that the devices I use are reliable.
I used a Lenovo M90Z All-In-One for 6 years or so and as Laptop I use a Lenovo Thinkpad T400, these things are made for eternity.
Altogether I bought 4 of the Thinkpads for different stuff, not only work related.
You can get them refurbished for real good prices.
Few months ago I swapped the M90Z for a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo E720 E90+ that I bought refurbished for about €120 on eBay.
I don´t need the fastest CPUs or the best graphic cards because I don´t play with my PCs, I use them only for work.
To be honest, I never had a PC or Laptop in my entire life with a dedicated graphics card, I always only used onboard.
What I always do is to upgrade the RAM as much as the device supports and that´s all.
Instead of Windows or MacOS I use openSUSE and there I have everything I need.
I also still have a Windows PC for software that only runs on Windows but in 99% I do everything on Linux.
For better workflow I have three monitors, two 24" monitors left and right and in the center a 27" monitor.
Nothing special just a desktop with two 24" monitors. I've tried a ultrawide monitor for a few months and disliked it.
I've have 13 macbook pro, but I hardly use it. I don't feel like I'm very productive with it, and envy those who can get a lot done with one.
I'm using 2 regular windows desktop PCs ... one in the office, the other at home. Both connected to a simple 24'' monitor
I'm replacing the machines every couple years, right now I'm running on core i7 and higher end graphics so I can also play some game from time to time. I guess it doesn't get more simple that this
Mine is Triple Monitor set up:
XPS 8930 Base
3X Dell UltraSharp 27 InfinityEdge monitor - U2717D, 27 inch
Intel® i7-8700 6-Core processor (12 MB cache, to 4,6 GHz)
Windows 10 Home 64bit
16 GB, DDR4, 2.666 MHz
256 GB M.2 PCIe x4 SSD + 4 TB HDD
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1070 with 8 GB GDDR5 memory

Just a macbook pro 13 inch. When I think its getting slow I replace it with the latest version.

I personally use Macbook Pro 15'" with external keyboard and trackpad + external 25" DELL monitor in my home office.
Works perfectly for me.
I even bought the same monitor at my parents home back in Slovakia, so whenever I travel across the world I can smoothly continue working with the same setup.
I shared my home office setup sometime last year but here we go again. I love screen space and having a bazillion windows open but at the same time, I would prefer a lightweight setup that is only my Macbook, which I use but since I work from home most of the time I'm on my desktop.

Cheers,
Andrew
After seeing Kian and Mr Payne setups, I might have to clean my desk. On the left hand side is a pile of invoices with a stick of deodorant to hold them from falling off the desk. And to the right, an empty box of tipped over Ritz cheese cracker sandwiches.
