1) When you first started out, how much money did you spend before you found that first profitable campaign? (for those who pay for traffic)
2) How many campaigns did it take roughly?
3) Which method of advertising did you use?
Interested to see the range here.
I would go first but I am starting my first campaign this weekend.
1) Probably around $10. I somehow got a profitable campaign about 3 days into affiliate marketing. It only made me $0.015 though. I had spent probably around $1000 before I hit it big with my first 10k+ profit campaign.
2) Before my first "good" campaign, probably around 50 attempts.
3) PPC & FB
Search: first profitable one after 10-12 failed campaigns ($5-$10 each)
Social: after about 30 failed campaigns (had to spend $xxxx before i could get something to profit)
Display: after about 5 failed campaigns ($20-$30 each)
PPV: spent ~$1k, haven't had much success lol...gotta keep trying
Mobile: Just getting started and breaking even at this point
Some people find their first ones faster and some people take time...it depends on a lot of things. The real challenge is to keep finding the goodies again and again and again.
I spent about $750 before hitting my first profitable campaign on ppv. It made me about $300 over 8 days. I then spend another $450 or so before hitting a more steady batch of profitable campaigns.
Spent $2500, Made it all back plus a little extra. Haven't been stable though.
Took probably 30+ campaigns.
Method: PPV
My 5th CPA campaign was my first big money maker. The 4th was profitable but it's scope was small enough that it couldn't scale past $1,000/day.
I spent about $500 before I really figured it out. Like $300 of that was just wasted trying to do CPS stuff using advertiser-provided banners from CJ on BuySellAds display spots.
Once you've got some profitable campaigns running in the background you can take more risks with trying wild ideas. Those are normally the types that have a lower chance of success, but pay off huge when they work.
Spent: 1741.79 in five months
then in month six I spent an addition 2,048.31. BUT I grosses 7,444.76 bringing me back into the positive!
my advice. . . don't be worried about IF you succeed just KNOW you are correcting your mistakes for when you DO succeed!
Spent about $300-400 to get my first profitable campaign... wasn't a big one though.
Hit my big first campaign at around $1k.
great posts everyone. Very useful for folk just starting out to:
a) manage expectations (your unlikely to hit gold if your only investing $100)
b) stick with it
A few hundred bucks, back in 2010 I didn't have much more then a couple grand to my name. I've turned that couple grand into a lot! Affiliate marketing is awesome and DOES work. Don't give up even if you don't succeed at first.
Spent $1200 or so on PPV before I had my first profitable campaign (3-5k/month profit). Lasted me almost 2 years.
Spent $100 on FB and started making it back since day 2, but I have to say that I looked for a little "inspiration" for the images... When starting out, keep it simple, that will give you confidence to continue onto the big money makers

1)I spent $1000 on a course which gave me a course & 1000 (claimed to be fresh) biz opp email adresses. I grossed $2000 in the first month selling clickbank products. Not that passionate about selling CB stuff anymore since joining CPA networks.
2) 1 Autoresponder Campaign (selling various CB products)
3) Email Marketing
1st campaign was insanely profitable, lasted for about a month and then the offer folded
it then took me about two years to get another steadily profitable campaign which lasted any amount of time. little successes in between but nothing consistent.
for me, it hasn't been finding winners, the problem is finding winners that last.
1. I used Pof for a dating offer targeting women
2. I profited $13 and some change on that campign
3. I spent $69 total on the campaign and that was actually my second attempt at POF
What were the type of offers used for your first profitable ppv campaigns?
After reading this post I was going to respond here but then decided to make it, it's own thread.

I have a weird story with IM,
My dad read in the newspaper that people were flipping off domain names for some serious money and his like, son your 16 give it a go so I used $50 from a birthday gift and bought 5 domains after searching google keywords with high volume. I bought one that had 300k searches a month for the real keyword and a week later I was contacted by some dude asking how much would I want if I sold it to his portfolio and being 16 I was thinking omfg dude I'll sell it for $100 woot $50 extra, but my dad said tell him to make an offer so the next morning I rose to him offering $12,000 USD which was around $15,000 AUD at the time.
So that's how I got started, but let me tell you from there I ventured into CPA after searching through all the Guru products, and I believe it took a good 3-4 weeks before I saw profits, but I was dumb, didn't want to spend anything and I read all day.
I believe people who begin on social can make money within a day or two of setting up, those with PPV it can take considerably longer waiting for approvals then sorting through the losses
These are all really good, very motivating, thanks for all the replies, keep em coming!
About $500.
this thread has been giving me good motivation.
keep them coming
I got lucky and hit profit on my very first campaign, it was unreal to be honest because that same campaign went on to making over 5 figure profit/day and last a good few months without hardly any maintenance.
In reality it did me no favours because I got lazy really early (I blame the fact I was only like 20-21) so could do whatever I wanted and still had plenty of money. Lesson learnt and burned a shit load of money and got worried when the campaign went south...
about 7k over 7 months
i found my first profitable campaign after spending 200 with PPV, second after 500 and third ater 100 hundred.
first two campaigns pulled from networks and the third is running for couple months so far and it covers my testing budget everyday.
Method = PPV
I spent a few hundred before i struck lucky with a pink iphone email submit offer and some dating on facebook.
Loving this thread, still looking for my first successful campaign!
1) I don't think I ended up spending a cent of my own money when i was totally noob, since I used coupons. Once I started breaking even I used my own. I think I spent around $1000 combined before I had a small profitable campaign.
2) How many campaigns did it take roughly?
Around 5. However depends on your definition of a campaign. I would make multiple angles for one niche on one traffic source and call that 1 campaign.
3) Which method of advertising did you use?
The blue devil.
300 then pink iphone on myads. lol myads used to have some good traffic, and the backend quality was good to.
Haha seems like a lot got their start with pink iPhone submits. Mine was on Facebook 4 figure days!
unchartered waters, around $200 per campaign.
if carefully researched, its usually instant profit.
I didn't have high hopes for this campaign but I ran with it anyways to get my feet wet. When I went to sleep FB still hadn't approved the ads and when I woke up, I found out that I had 600% ROI and scaled immediately. I had only spent about twenty bucks to come to this realization. My bank account went from $xxx to $xxx, xxx in three months. Very blessed!
damn gozzo. nice start
