Shop with watches - WordPress + Facebook

Hi,

firstly I've created a shop with drone accessories in the USA but finally decided to make something in my own country, because I think it's a little easier for me.

I've found a drophipping wholesale in Poland. They're able to deliver watches to customers in two days.

Example pricing for watch:
Wholesale: $40
My shop: ~$60

So my margin is around $20 on average watch.

I've decided to make it on WordPress and not Shopify, because I'm the web developer, so it's easier for me to control everything on WP rather than on Shopify. I'm also able to write a lot of functionalities on my own.

Website url: https://timemax.pl/
Text on banner is something like: "now up to 30% discount"

Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/timemaxpl/

On the product page: https://i.gyazo.com/ce92d83cd952a64c...1f67f678c7.png
you can see I've added timer etc.

Text in orange is:

All Facebook ads are done by targeting 2.7 mln audience. I promote only Men Watches for now.

Data below isn't 100% accurate in this ad, because I had something wrong with pixel during first two days and it didn't count Add to Cart behaviours etc. In fact there was probably more add to cart actions etc.

Add to cart: 22 people

2. The second ad: https://i.gyazo.com/cfec17fda741ead0...f433ce1707.jpg

i don't know why it worked so bad if I used the same "reaction voting" idea as before.
I also tried to duplicate ads, to advertise in other pools however it didn't change anything.

4. Fourth ad: https://i.gyazo.com/77757834ca98aaa4...18958f8b83.png

As you know this is ad called "collection".

Spent on campaign: $13.56

Initiate checkout: 2

Conclusion:
In fact I don't have any conversion.

The first ad worked really good, there was a lot of likes and a lot of visits on my site however without any conversion.
The second ad didn't generate so much visits but it generated really lot of likes. Won top-left watch.

In the third ad I wanted to check which color of the watch that win in the second ad, people would like the most - however it doesn't work. I don't have an idea why. In previous ad people did 160 likes in one day and now they don't want to make any reaction. What can be a reason? Facebook pools? I've also duplicated this ad without better results.

DPA works good enough however it still doesn't generate any conversions.

For now I disabled all ads and decided to start this Follow Along and get some advices, because I'm not sure why there are so many differences in the involvement in similar ads and also don't know why I can't get any conversion.

Meanwhile I've bought 7 watches and going to make some nice and modern photos for future ads.

Do you think I should improve something on my website? Maybe ads are done in wrong way? Maybe photos are bad?

I have some pixel data, so I can try with Custom Audiences and/or Looalike Audiences - just need ideas what to do with it.

Any advice would be really helpful.

Thank you!

As far i know, FB is blocking watches ads quite often. Is it same in Poland?

It’s a little weird message to me. I haven’t had any problems in Poland till now. Is there something wrong with watches?

If they’re really going to block even watches, I guess we should leave Facebook ASAP, because it’s completely non sense.

Yes we experienced it. We used to advertise Watches from some brands and they did it. Maybe there is some restriction only for several brands, i dont know as we advertised many brands. Will follow up this topic. Keep posting experience please.

@zyggmunt - your prices are waaaay too low:

60 usd watch

minus VAT, which is 23% in poland = 60/1.23 = 48.78

your purchase price is 40

So that leaves you 8.78 in gross profit.

Now deduct the free shipping you offer (as far as I could judge by going through the purchasing process) and you're not making much of a profit.

If you then take into account your ad cost, you'll be making a loss, even with higher conversions.

Also, these watches are being offered for really low prices: https://www.b-a.eu/en/c4294/Gino-Rossi-mens-watches
One could buy them for aroun 40 euro.

Using the brand name is not helping you here I think.

You really should be buying these for less than 1 euro: https://detail.1688.com/offer/538288...671c703eVxxDdo
Then sell them for 30+

That will give you the margin you need.

I am afraid you are setting yourself up for failure with these razor thin margins.

Hope this helps..

Further to pekadis' very on-point advice, here's what I know:

There are 2 main ways to take advantage of the prices on 1688 by buying in bulk.

1)Find a fulfillment centre in China, then buy from a manufacturer on 1688, and store goods at the fulfillment centre which will ship the products out to customers.

(I know of some fulfillment centres so can pass their contact info to you if you need it. Haven't used any myself though so can't recommend.)

2)If most of your customers are from one country, you also have the option of buying bulk from 1688 and shipping to the local country, and storing and shipping to customers from there. Either find a fulfillment centre there or start your own. That will minimize delivery time.

Or you can store in your local country if the countries you're delivery to are not very far away.

Best of luck!

Thanks for your suggestions.

I have around $20 of profit on average watch after paying shipping cost and VAT.

I was thinking about cheap $2 watches from Aliexpress but I will never sell them for $30 in Poland. I can buy for $2 and sell for $10 - maybe. People here count any penny and they can buy "expensive" watch only if they know brand. It's almost impossible to sell people random Chinese watch for $30. The other thing is that Aliexpress is very popular in Poland, so people know they can buy the same watches on Aliexpress for $2.

However Polish people don't like to wait, so they would surely buy a watch for $10 - even if they know it's for $2 on Aliexpress, because they would like to have it in 2 days rather than 40 days.

Ok, so finally I have $20 profit on average watch. What do you think is bad with my ads or website that I can't sell any watch?
The other thing - why one ad made 160 likes for $12 and the other one which is in the same style didn't make any like for the same price?

Have u tried some catalog sales? And is it hard to found LLC in poland?

Yes, I've tried collection sales: https://i.gyazo.com/77757834ca98aaa4...18958f8b83.png - the worst results.

I'm not sure what you mean by LLC. Is it a company owned by 1-x people with shares and management? If so, you can create it by internet on the government website.

06-03-2018 12:09 PM #10 ptgtate (Member)

And how long does it take?

And what about catalog sales, i mean Facebook catalog sales, when u upload ur products in fb and it makes remarketing automatically for people who added cart and not purchased or smth like that

I did it in fifth Ad that I mentioned in the first post. Results even good but still no conversions.

I think it takes 1 day to make LLC in Poland however I’m not sure how it looks for foreigners.

06-03-2018 08:07 PM #12 pekadis (Moderator)

As far as I have understood, English is not a legal language in Poland, so setting up a company in Poland might become a hassle.
We are going through VAT registration and need sworn translations for a lot of things. Bill so far - close to 2K in euro...

And as far as targeting is concerned; whatever you are doing now is not working.

As for this:

I was thinking about cheap $2 watches from Aliexpress but I will never sell them for $30 in Poland. I can buy for $2 and sell for $10 - maybe. People here count any penny and they can buy "expensive" watch only if they know brand. It's almost impossible to sell people random Chinese watch for $30. The other thing is that Aliexpress is very popular in Poland, so people know they can buy the same watches on Aliexpress for $2.
This is a hypothesis.

You might be right, you might be wrong.

Which is why you test.

So test the idea so you can figure out what works.

Sales lead the way, not anyone's opinion.

The process is as follows:
- Generate ideas and hypotheses
- Test using a proven template (look around on the forum for these)
- keep winners, discard losers

As you gain experience and get to know your customers better, you might be able to generate more winners.

But nothing is guaranteed.

I have a few products that I thought were surefire winners. And they do sell, for others.
Yet our customers, even the ones that buy the exact same thing, want none of it

At least, not from us.

So I was wrong. After millions in sales of related products with other products from the same brand. Thousands of customers.

Just goes to show that no one is beyond testing.

06-03-2018 08:18 PM #13 zyggmunt (Member)

Thanks, I'm going to test more ideas.

I'm just curious. Why do you want to create a company in Poland?

06-03-2018 08:28 PM #14 phobos (Member)

Recently I have tested the same shops on different platforms Shopify vs Woocommerce vs Onepage sales page and what I noticed is you should really check your purchase process on the website after clicking "Buy it" button.

The less steps client need to do before buying - the better. Using Wordpress I can recommend "WooCommerce Simple Buy Now" plugin which eliminated the chart and checkout pages so that client can complete the order in the same product page.

Another thing to think about is COD. As you are selling stuff in Poland, I work in this market also I think trying courier on delivery is worth trying (If your dropshipping partner allows it)

EDIT: LLC in Poland is called "Spółka z o.o." and you can set it up via internet sure but it takes at least couple days before it will be registered in KRS. When it is done you can start working.

06-03-2018 09:30 PM #15 zyggmunt (Member)

Thank you szymon for your suggestions.

About LLC - Yes it takes a few days to be written in KRS, however you can start invoicing etc. even before you are in KRS. It’s called like “company in organization”.

What pekadis said about the need to test pricing really struck a chord.

A couple of examples came to mind:

1)Member cawovt found that conversion rates remained about the same in spite of increasing the price by a few dollars:

https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...l=1#post345085

2)Some ecom products I was running through an aff network were being sold to consumers for MANY multiples of prices I found on aliexpress/1688. For example, one product I was running (through the aff network) that broke even right away, I looked for on aliexpress and found it selling for close to 1/20th of the price!! And yet I broke even at the massively-inflated pricing which means people were willing to buy at that price. Go figure.

And meanwhile, the aff network must have been making profits hand-over-fist WHILE being able to afford paying affiliates half the profits.

So yeah - don't assume. Test!

@ptgate, @pekadis - I'm just curious, why do you want to create LLC in Poland? As I know Poland isn't the best country for companies. I'm just wondering what is the reason.

06-05-2018 06:27 AM #18 pekadis (Moderator)

@zyggmunt - I don't want to create a company there - was just sharing my ideas for @ptgate

We're in the process of getting a VAT number for Poland, which is enough of a hassle already..

06-05-2018 09:09 AM #19 stickupkid (Senior Moderator)

“Always assume your assumptions about others are wrong. Because often, they are” Test test test as vortex and pekidis mentioned!

06-06-2018 02:04 PM #20 zyggmunt (Member)

You’re all right with testing. I’m surely going to try sell AliExpress watches.

However - how to sell my current watches? Any improvements? For now it looks like I’m not able to sell any watch even for a price without any margin.

Any ideas?

@zyggmunt -

Use them as promotional items (for likes, rewiew etc), give away to friends or something else.

Don't worry about what didn't work. That happens and is part of the game.

Learn from it and move on.

It's a lesson that's best learnt early on.

Because in the big scheme of things, it doesn't matter. It's just another step towards success

Shop with watches - WordPress + Facebook

It’s no problem. I haven’t bought any watch till now. It’s dropshipping. I just have something in my mind that tells me that it’s impossible to not be able to sell any watch.

This voice is saying me: “how you can sell something if you’re not able to sell great quality watch for so low price”

Quality - really great, I have several of these watches in my flat and in fact I’m going to use them for myself even if I had much more expensive watches. They looks really, really good.

Price - ~$30

I’m going to make nice photos, because I think people don’t see on the current ones that these watches looks so nice in reality. I also didn’t expect it.

Edit to first sentence: ok, I’ve bought 5 watches - just to see, however it’s not necessary for me to sell them.

OK, got it. I thought you had some that you wanted to sell.

Still, my advice, move on to a new product.

There's nothing to win here. There's no competition you can win and nothing to prove to anyone by sticking to this until it works.
The market is telling you something here. Listen and learn.

Enjoy the watches for yourself and start making money selling something else.
