Depression and affiliate marketing

Due to the constant high to low falls i feel i have fallen into depression.

I feel i am stupid, have zero knowledge, do not know anything and do not deserve all the things i achieved. It destroy my self confidence.

I attribute my depression from the repeated falling from high to zero. Having to restart always from zero.

Anyone else get into depression because of affiliate? How did you regain your self confidence?

First off, you should not feel ashamed in any way to get professional help. It's not just for people stuck in a rut, so you shouldn't feel like you're less than others. Top athletes train their mind just as much as their bodies, and when you want to be a top business performer, I don't think you should exclude this option.

Secondly, I think this is normal. Anyone who did their own business has been in your situation. Maybe they had an easier time dealing with it, maybe not.

One piece of advice that I can give is to put things into perspective - if you achieved some nice highs, you are significantly above average in terms of financial success in the world. Next, you probably have a valuable skillset that in the worst case scenario can get you a nice paying job with pretty good security. Again, something most people dream of.

I cannot read your mind, but it sounds like you trick yourself into being results oriented too much. I recommend you to go through this series I wrote a while back: https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...r-Introduction

One thing about having played poker for a living is that you get those feelings of euphoria and then utter helplessness within hours in a day, and if you want to have any chance to be successful, you learn to deal with it (Disclaimer: I'm not saying go play poker and lose your money!). In my case, that made it less emotionally expressive. You will rarely see me extremely enthusiastic when getting news so good most people do a backflip for. On the upside, I also don't get too down when having some bad results or getting some bad news.

You need to stay persistent and keep at it. What helped me before is taking a couple days off and forgetting about everything. Come back with a fresh mindset. You will get nowhere in a depressed state of mind.

Also, start eating healthy + training/cardio. It will clear up your head if you don't believe me try it.

I have to agree with this and I am sure many other's have experienced the tremendous highs and lows this industry offers. I've been at it for nearly 13 years now and in that time I've been on top a lot, only to see the bottom again. It came come so fast, almost in an instant... it's a roller coaster we choose to ride. How you handle those lows will ultimately define your long term success. Being able to pick up from the lows and get back to a good place takes a lot of skill... and if you can do it time and time again you will at least have the comfort of being able to provide some level of income.

Taking time off does help or stepping away for a while. It's easy to fry in front of the computer... especially when things aren't going your way. Keep a clear mind and keep pushing forward, but learn from your mistakes and don't repeat them.

Everyday it's a fight, campaigns never last and you have to always be moving. Just stay positive - Creating masterminds and talking with a group that is going through the same struggles can help keep you moving forward. You're not alone with the ups and downs. Every business owner has failed more times than they can count - the ones that succeed just never have any quit in them.

Life of an entrepreneur. We all get to this at some point and our mindset is truly important.

Some people laugh when you tell them mindset can help you be rich and happy, and of course just because you think you can it doesn’t mean you will without putting the proper effort.

But having the wrong mindset can definitely stop you from trying and having the enthusiasm you need to keep going.

As Emanuel said, it’s better not to mix your feelings in this industry. At least not to a point you get over/under expectations from yourself.

Aside from Poker I’m sure a lot of people have experienced this with cryptos in the last months.

What got you started at the beginning? What’s your motivations? Do you still value those goals enough to help you through new cycles?

One needs to be a strong person mentally, to handle the UPs and DOWNs that AM brings.

It's very challenging, but even the best and top affiliates around here experience that.

They just learned how to handle it properly (or at least try).

If it's too much, take a break.

Go outside, socialise, do something else.

Try again when you are back with fresh energy and ideas.

I wish you to stay strong.

A very important tip, the pace of work on the web can clearly have consequences on the hygiene of life.

No matter what situation you are in, you can not make good decisions and feel happy without good oxygenation, good cardio and good nutrition.

Manu's tips on poker are very useful, an entrepreneur is someone who survives the depressive state caused by holding the majority of the responsibilities and results in those hands, affiliate marketing or poker with the culture of results and performance adds significant additional stress.

Cannot agree more ... this is what entrepreneurs are going through every now and then, none of us can stay on top of the game forever, that's the way it is. We all have our ups and downs ... I basically lost everything in AM twice already and had to rebuild it all from scratch. But you know what they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger ... I did it a few times already and I can do it again if needed

Have you ever seen that little graph, where it pokes fun at the emotional journey of an entrepreneur? It's totally normal to feel like you are failing, stupid and making huge mistakes one day, and the next week feel like you're on the right path. Even objectively it's normal to have tangible ups and downs. Take the advice of others and take a couple of days to return with a fresh mindset. Try to train yourself to be able to maintain an objective mindset as often as possible.

Darren Hardy calls this "The Entrepreneur Roller Coaster." It has steep ups and steep downs.

Depression and anxiety can consume any of us if we don't take care of ourselves. It's the reason why I went to grad school to study Performance Psychology. I wanted to learn how to keep my own brain in a peak state, but also help others do the same... This stuff isn't easy for anyone.

I encourage you to do the following:
- Check your diet
- Exercise regularly
- Get out in the sunlight
- Take breaks on a regular basis
- Reward yourself

When we take good care of ourselves, it's wild how perspectives begin to change. All of a sudden we can handle stress better, maintain a level head, and not allow emotions to run wild.

Instead of the huge high's and low's, I aim to stay even-keel. When I have a massive month, be happy, celebrate, but keep it all in perspective. If my numbers come down a little, don't freak out... instead focus on improving by taking charge of that which I can control.

You've done the most important thing, which is to reach out to others. The worst thing people can do is withdraw and not tell anyone what they're struggling with. Connect with other entrepreneurs and share with each other. That will help you make new friends and also help you realize you're just as normal as the rest of us.
