For a financial comparison site I am trying to figure out which colour to use for the get a quote button.
Has anyone ever split-tested this?
Would save me testing
Haven't any Finance specific for you, but Neil Patel's article on colour psychology is generally helpful. But I'd say the rule of thumb would be split testing yourself, as you can't really isolate everyone else's variables and think they are your own.

You can't really figure this out without split testing ... there are so many variables that come into play here.
On a side note, factors such as "color of CTA button", don't usually cause a BIG difference in the final CVR... at least based on my tests in multiple verticals. Unless you go wild with some flashing purple shit, of course
Question is too broad indeed but I would go for green, orange or blue. I mostly used orange for my insurance websites back in the day. Don't forget some colors have such a different association per geo.
After posting I realised that it was a bit too broad
Have done some research on it and decided to stick with orange.
Rainbow color! Haha, just kidding, do a split test, should give you answers pretty fast.
I assume you have already tested more important elements like angles and headlines (and already killing it!) if your only problem right now is the color of the button :-)
Split testing!
Plenty of tools out there to build a heatmap and monitor where people's eyes are on the page for each of the colours, and which one converts.
Generally orange is the colour to stick with.
Hello Eurosen!
As it was mentioned above by the members, split testing is the best option. I would just add that button color should be in harmonious contrast with other web page colors. For example bright blue with red is hard to perceive. If you want you can check an article written by one of our designer
