Popads Dead for traffic? Only ever trickles, never volume.

Hey guys,

just wanted to ask everyone what they think about Popads?

While i found that the traffic quality they offer is very high, I've never been able to get anything more than just a trickle of traffic from them - Independent of how much I bid. x1.5 average payout, to x10 average payout.

Their traffic estimations are quite off it seems and it's frustrating because i love this traffic source, but it feels like they are a dead end.

am i wrong about this?

Which geo and targeting options are you talking about?

PopAds has been a little volatile with their traffic.

I've had campaigns running for months and every few weeks we have to relaunch the campaigns > reoptimize the placements > to get traffic back.

I'm not sure exactly the cause but my theory is either publishers are moving around alot between the pop sources they are using and/or the publishers are more cautious and are blocking advertisers who run js alerts, etc. Again, I haven't dove into what is going on with them but it happens in many of their geos.

Try relaunching the campaign fresh once again, using your exact same target settings but do not blacklist any placements. Get the new campaign receiving traffic > reoptimize your placements in a day or two. That has helped get our volume back but we have repeated it ever couple weeks as we see a steady decline over time.

I'm targeting Latam, SEA and Tier 2 EU countries.
but I've never been able to get anything more than just a trickle of traffic from them. Raising the bid an insane amount barely did anything as well....

Today for instance, their estimations said i would receive 22,000 Hits from Philippines based on my targeting options.. But I could barely get 3,000 over the span of 12 hours.. so WTF. This happens 100% of the time.

Right now, it's saying i'm going to receive 35,000 per day - So curious what that's going to mean.

I even made a spreadsheet in advance so I know which countries popads can help me with and which not, based on their options... but still no luck. Just wanted to know if i'm possible missing some piece of information.

I've shared the info i compiled below for Ya'll

Here are some recent numbers for what popads claims - this is for 3G Traffic/ 1 per 24 hours

this happened to me too

Personally, I may have a solution...

I just adjusted my settings and looked into other countries to run for this as well...

Instead of doing 1 per 24 hours. Doing It RAW (lol) but turning on primespot.

I checked 3G for Poland and this raised the impressions from 50k —- 200k BUT PRIMESPOT.

However, we can obviously say those estimations are bullshit, however I’m really interested in what results will
Come

Could be interesting since I small fraction ever even see the ad before quickly turning it off.
At least I’ve gotten pretty fast at shutting off ads and I don’t even see them..

Going to test this, and see what happens. I really do like their traffic at popads...

Don't hesitate to contact the support, Tomasz is very responsive and often gives very useful answers.

Also 3G traffic on popads can have a very high concurrency and bids can go up very high.

You run what type of offer? Some are blocked massively by the publishers

Well, Before I got into media buying I was webmaster of some big adult tube sites for years and I remember every time I saw those aggressive pops from any ad network on my sites I just contacted them asking to remove those ads from my sites immediately! Some did but some didn't and in that case I always switched to the other ad networks. I'm sure about many other sites doing same. Maybe they lost a lot of traffic due to the fact that they're easy with ad approvals.

I think Popads has currently some issues.

I run some whitelist campaigns, and Popads sends you an email if one of the targetted websites stops sending Popads traffic.

In the past few weeks, I was getting more and more of these emails ("We regret to inform you that Website ID 1234567 has recently stopped sending us traffic"). So it seems to me that at least the good targets at PopAds are getting less and less for the moment.

One more thing to keep in mind when looking at estimates ... it's just an estimate based on some conditions that might very well change the next hour. Then there is competition that massively influences how much of the available you will actually end up with getting ... estimates are NOT accurate, NEVER

3G traffic on PopAds is definitely limited in most geos+carriers. There's a lot more traffic volume on wifi for sure.

A lot of factors can affect the actual volume you get vs. the estimates presented by popad's estimator, and many of those have been mentioned.

Another thing I believe may be happening, is when you're running more-aggressive landers, either the system's algorithm or the publishers or the reviewers may gradually "ban" your ad from appearing on certain sites.

This may partly explain the traffic drop over time.

E.g. BR wifi traffic 0.70CPM bid:

The next day same hour same targeting same bid:

Would be an interesting test to run 2 instances of a camp simultaneously, with one instance using a 100% compliant lander and the other an aggressive lander, just to compare.

Interesting Amy; and frequency cap was much less than 1/24?

05-03-2018 07:15 PM #13 Mr Payne (Member)

I think Amy's point about the "gradually" blacklisting of your lander from their website is exactly what is happening and aligns with my experiences.

Especially on PopAds, we have seen a steady decline over weeks of running > relaunch a fresh campaign > volume is back > only to gradually decline again to 50% or less of the volume in a 2 week period. Repeat this over and over

Same frequency cap 1/24.

Nothing was changed. Otherwise it wouldn't have been a fair comparison.

also

anyway around this?

Did you check your funnel with a Chrome browser? There you should see somewhere a red warning page. If it's your domain, then change it asap and resubmit the campaign.

Ok thanks osmiumman. I saw the red page. How do I avoid it with my new domain?

You can't really avoid it.
Best is to have one or more backup domains ready so that you can switch as soon as you got flagged.
Sometimes it even helps to only use a new subdomain.

This is the same scenario across all pop under sources...The estimators on all those sites are total bullshit
