How to make camps profitable on RevContent?

Hi,

I've already been running Native traffic on different networks like Outbrain, Taboola, Gemini and started Revcontent recently. I have tried creating Brand and Topic campaigns already.

Topic campaigns have been gaining a lot more traffic but the traffic is usually VERY VERY bad. I mean I'm spending a whole lot money and barely getting any CTR on my landing pages and only a few sales (I'm trying to sell ecom products - which I do successfully on other platforms). I'm of course blocking all those sources after like 100-150 clicks, but they keep coming and coming. There are only a very few placements that have decent CTR but new bad placements are coming in all the time it's pretty hard to keep blocking them and deciding which ones to block which ones to keep, etc.

If I'm running Brand campaigns, they are usually getting less shitty traffic but getting a low less traffic for the same CPC also.

My targeting is usually worldwide, but obviously blocking out like 100 of the worst GEOs.

The question is: what's the best approach here that I should be using to create a profitable campaign? Keep on blocking out those shitty sources on Topic targeting campaigns or bid higher on the Brand campaign? Or something else perhaps?

Of course once I get some insights on which source is working the best I can start whitelisting them. At least that's the plan.

Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks in advance!

For maximum possible volume in the future, once optimized, you really need to do it the hard way and sort through the crap by blocking it. If you try to limit the targeting initially, by blocking some targets, you will also miss some of the good ones. It would help to automate this process, do you have some automation tool at hand?

Revcontent has huge inventory and in my opinion running multi-geo camps right from the start will certainly drain a lot of your budget.
Assuming that you are testing a campaign which is already performing decently on other sources, I would suggest targeting one of the top performing countries (according to other sources performance).

Check out these ready to use rules examples we have posted in our support site.

Brand traffic is a good benchmark to judge whether a campaign has legs to run at scale, but US and I think maybe UK have the lions share of that traffic.

Need to break out campaigns by geo though for starters if you haven't already, and additionally by device type.

I don't have any automation right now, but going to consider one now. Okay, so I'm going to proceed with cutting the crap traffic and going more targeted first.

Thanks for the insights, everyone!
