How to Know the Top Mobile Pop Traffic Sources

Hey Guys,

Just curious is there a way to find out the top mobile pop traffic sources in terms of revenue. Is there any type of report that can show the top 10 sources in terms of revenue? I don't want to go in blind, what process do you guys follow to discover good traffic sources?

Revenue for whom? Traffic source? Advertisers? Publishers?

I'm not aware of any tool that would rank traffic sources by revenue, or even by traffic. There are sites like alexa that could tell you what the highest-traffic sites are, but some pop networks use ad servers that are on separate urls from their main domain for serving traffic, and it's not always easy to tell which network some urls are associated with.

Here are some of the ways I could think of, that may help:

1)In posts where other members have asked for pop source recommendations - this post has links to a bunch of them (if they're recommended by many people it means they are relatively well-known, thus are likely responsible for the largest percentages of all available traffic):

2)Find traffic network directories by googling - these for example (although there wouldn't be any indication how large they are, some of the descriptions will tell you how much traffic they have in total):

https://www.adnetworkdirectory.com/s...zoom_query=pop

http://www.mobyaffiliates.com/mobile...rmats=popunder

3)Find pop network lists by googling (although there wouldn't be any indication how large they are, some of the descriptions will tell you how much traffic they have in total):

https://www.google.ca/search?rlz=1C1....0.aIn_errpgjA

4)SimilarWeb top sites in the ad-network category (some of those are pop - you'll need to check them one by one):

https://www.similarweb.com/top-websi...com/ad-network

5)Adplexity Mobile - set ad type to "popup" and "redirect", and scroll down to the traffic source filter to see the networks that have the highest number of campaigns in the Adplexity database:

6)This is a time-consuming one: Get the list of top 1 million sites in Alexa, and go through the list from the top to identify ad networks. You won't want to do this manually for obvious reasons - feeding all these sites into a software that will browse the homepage for relevant keywords (such as "pop", "pop under" "pop up" and variations thereof) would be a good approach.

If you have some favorite geos you like to focus on, getting the top 500 alexa sites for each of those geos and manually going through them to look for 1)traffic sources and 2)websites that contain pop-ups (and checking the ad links to see which pop network you can buy that traffic from and buy there) would be a good way to look for places where you can buy the most traffic for those specific geos.

Hope that helps!

Hey thanks Amy for such detailed recommendations. If there is only an easier way to find gems in traffic sources, it would be great.

There are literally hundreds if not thousands of the pop traffic sources and if there is a way to get a more accurate picture like say Admaven is doing 100 million dollars a year and PopUnderTotal only 10 million only, it would be time saver than to test each manually. I guess SimilarWeb would be an alternative way to gauge a traffic source.

H&M is doing more revenue in a year than let's say Stussy, but does it say H&M offers better clothing, service etc? No. Just check what sources the big affiliates use (mentioned in a lot in threads), they make big bucks and are probably happy with the traffic.
