First target of a Newbie: see convert rate > 0

I’ve create my first campaign by following Vortex guidelines in her 40 days Pop tutorial. From the starting point I also known that I must be very lucky if I find a profitable campaign from direct link part of this tutorial. However, I want to be on the game, know how to setup a campaign, get familiar with essential tools and statistical number. For the best I hope to see convert rate > 0

Here is my campaigns:
Offers : 2 video, 2 game all of them are mobile subscription (Double Opt In) from Mobidea. My AM told me that they all have good performance. All of them are game and video for kids
Geo: AR (argentina)
Mobile carrier: PERSONAL

Traffic source: firstly I registered with Propellerads however I got stuck with add fund for my account via Paypal, they doesn’t accept Paypal for Newbie by default. I contacted them for support and they told me Paypal is opened in 72 hours after I get first impression to run campaign I need to try another funding method. Therefore I switch to Popad

Popad campaign settings seems have more options than Propellerads, I followed Amy guide to setup my campaign the same in tutorial. However, I still have some concerns

Firstly about categories: certainly I remove all adult contents because my offers are focusing on kids. But I wonder I should keep all general or filter categories deeply, later I chose categories that sound related to game/video for kid

Next I setup for Mobile Carrier “Personal”

However after running campaigns, I still get unwanted visit

I don’t know is there something wrong ? Or that is problem of PopAd

Finally, I setup bid for traffic

I test with Max bid: $1 -> they estimated I will receive 4000 impressions perday

So I choose to run with Max bid: $0.003

With those traffic estimation, volume seems too low and if I still run, this campaign fails before starting . But I still chose to run because I want to see everything work

Here is my campaign stats for few hours after running

Conclusion I have some questions, hope that someone can explain for me:

  1. For mobile carrier as I describe above, I see many unwanted visit from unknown mobile carrier on Voluum. Did I make something wrong on my campaign setting ? or it is problem of PopAd ?
  2. Should I filter general category because my offers are for kid market ?
  3. I see Voluum visit is higher than Mobidea visit, at this time this is 442 vs 337 -> Is that normal or something wrong ?
  4. Because I get unwanted traffic from unknown mobile carrier, I see Mobidea redirect them to their smartlink. If that traffic converts, can I receive that ?
  5. Finally I think video/game for kid are not suitable with pop traffic. Even if they are mobile carrier subscriptions and one more thing traffic volume is low -> should I stop this after 1 or 2 days ?

Hey! So regarding your issue with the "Other" carrier. All platforms you are working with (Popads, Voluum, Mobidea) have different servers recognizing different IPs as carriers. Meaning, that an IP X, that is recognized as Personal on Popads, can be something else on Voluum or Mobidea.

You need to speak with Voluum about it. Normally 10-15% discrepancies are normal, but in your case it's more than 50% of traffic. You can also ask Mobidea support for IPs of Argentina Peronal and target on Popads by concrete IPs.

Mobidea is redirecting the "unwanted" traffic to the Smartlink hoping that it will convert anyway, so it's not considered as lost traffic - you still can make money with it. Our smartlink algorithm detects your users' segment and shows the best offer according to performance for that particular segment.

I believe, if you solve the issue with the carrier, all the other things will also improve.

And actually, consider using landing pages in the near future. Of course there are offers that can perform direct linking, but landing pages make a big difference

Thank for your comment Mobidea

-> Sure I will do it

-> Next campaign, I will move on with this

Voluum uses the most accurate DB for carriers, so the problem is most likely with popads. Could be BOTs too, popads has a lots of them in their inventory ... I'd recommend to consider using a BOT test very soon.

Mobidea covered part of your questions, so no need to get into those again, thanks guys

Should I filter general category because my offers are for kid market ?
Not sure how much is popads targeting worth, so I'd say you will have to test the traffic and see if it performs for you or not. These categories are usually not that accurate unfortunately.

Finally I think video/game for kid are not suitable with pop traffic. Even if they are mobile carrier subscriptions and one more thing traffic volume is low -> should I stop this after 1 or 2 days ?
It's true that POP traffic requires quite aggressive promo methods and very broad appeal offers, so games for kids might not be the best vertical for it.

With carrier traffic, the volumes are lower pretty much always ... at this point it doesn't matter as lower volume can actually play in your favor and save you some $$$, but in the future, you will have to set certain threshold and not mess with segments that cannot send enough volume to justify the work needed to make them work.

Cheers,
Matej.

Congrats on your first conversion!

And apologies for arriving at this thread so late!

Regarding getting traffic from "other" than your chosen mobile carrier - this is unfortunately an issue on popads. This is one of the major reasons why I was hesitating to use popads as the traffic source in my tutorial.

You can do some testing on popads to figure out whether you can get traffic for JUST your desired carrier. I talked about that in detail in this post:

https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...esting!-Part-1

Regarding Mobidea's suggestion of targeting carriers by IP - that's a great idea as well. I've mentioned that in this post:

https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...re-Experienced

And since you're running on popads, this post may be useful as well:

https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...-for-beginners

It's great that you're direct-linking to get some practice! You've set up all the tracking correctly and conversions are posting back. That's very good progress. After a few direct-linked campaigns, please proceed to learn how to use landing pages ASAP. It has become very difficult to make profits by direct-linking. In fact, I'm rewriting the tutorial - you can find details here:

https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...Major-Overhaul

Looking forward to your next update!
