Hi,
I'm starting my Follow Along. This is a store with drone accessories. I'm the drone user and added to the store only accessories that I think are very useful.
Site url: https://flyhere.us/
The store isn't finished yet however I have some questions.
1. The most important thing. I live in Poland but I want to sell in USA and I'm not sure about tax rates. Do I need to pay any taxes in USA? Poland is in EU, so normally I would need to pay VAT but I asked my accountant and when I "buy" in Chinese and sell in USA, I don't need to pay VAT. I'm just not sure if I need to pay something in USA while I don't live there.
2. I heard it's important to have visible phone number, because customers feel more confidently then. However I wouldn't like to use my personal number and also wouldn't like to have any calls. Moreover it would look weird when I sell in USA and I have area code for Poland. Is there any trusted website where I can generate my phone number in USA and have something like voicemail? In general what would you do if it's good to have phone number visible and I don't want to have any calls? Any ideas in this area?
3. In the footer I have a section with two movies (there are demo movies now). Do you think it's important? I'm wondering about removing it. I thought about putting there a movie about a product I'm going to promote on Facebook, is it a good idea? What about the second movie? Does it make sense to invest time on creating movies in this place?
4. Sample commission https://flyhere.us/products/dji-cont...-tablet-holder :
- Aliexpress: $13.88
- My store: $23.95
Do you think it's ok?
5. My Aliexpress supplier has usually free E-packet shipping. However I've set $3.99 shipping price when order is below $49. Over $49 shipping is free. Do you think this is okay?
6. I've written something like: "This set doesn't contains the tablet and the phone visible on photos." on all products where things I'm not selling are visible (like drone, tablet, phone etc). Do you think it's necessary?
7. What about invoices? Is there any plugin I should use to send invoices to customers? I know there is something like PayPal Invoices but I'm not sure how to use it. Moreover I think it's better to have more global solution, because there will be more payment methods. Do I need to send invoices in general?
8. For now there is only PayPal connected, I'm going to connect Skrill also. Do you think I need more Payment providers? Please keep in mind I live in Poland and I'm not able to use all payment methods.
9. By default in the Shoptimized theme there is guarantee: "You get a full 365 days to return your item to us. If it doesn't fit, it breaks, you've changed your mind or for no reason whatsoever simply send it back to us and we'll cheerfully refund you every cent. ". It looks like a really long time. How long should I accept returns?
10. I haven't started to promote on Facebook yet however I have one question. When somebody writes negative comments that my product is too expensive or is bad quality etc should I remove these comments or just answer? What would be better for me?
There is still some things to do, however any suggestions at this stage would be very helpful.
I didn't realize there is so much work with a simple
Here are a few quick ones:
1. Yes, do change that guarantee - drone stuff breaks easily and you don't want to get claims related to that. So change the wording and the term (shorten it to 14 or days or similarly short)
2. There's no VAT in the US, but your customers will import, so there could be import duty. When we ship/sell to the US, we pay this for our customers, so they don;t get any nasty surprises.
3. Don't list a Polish tel. number, but get a US one and forward it to your Polish number. We use sonetel.com for that. Easy to use and inexpensive. Keep in mind though that you're in a different time zone. So you might not want to list a tel. number at all ( I wouldn't)
4. Your prices are in euro for me, so I assume that's based on IP detection. If you're targeting the US only, I'd just go for everything targeted at the US market. So no option to buy from other countries. Not a big deal, but that's how we do it.
5 This: 6. I've written something like: "This set doesn't contains the tablet and the phone visible on photos." on all products where things I'm not selling are visible (like drone, tablet, phone etc). Do you think it's necessary? -> Yes, definitely mention this. Make sure people know what they get and avoid any complaints afterwards.
Hope this helps for now.
Good luck with your store and keep us updated!
Thanks for your answers,
1. AFAIK there are no federal taxes applied to consumer products imported from China. And yes, you shouldn't have to pay VAT if you're drop shipping.
2. I have gotten quite a lot of complaints for not having a phone number listed, a lot of customers also called me out that my sites weren't considered as "trustworthy businesses" because of this, but as pekadis said, there are plenty of options to choose from for forwarding.
3. I would use product showcase videos somewhere next to your product images/descriptions, i.e. in a more prominent locations, these can help boost conversions and keep a good "scent" from ads to your site, should you choose to put up ads with videos.
4. Yep margins are looking fine. You can also test out higher prices and see how the conversions are affected.
5. I'd change it to free shipping entirely - AliExpress shipping times are already long enough to cause tons of complaints for all of those people spoiled by Amazon and the likes. Getting complaints is inevitable in either case.
6. Yes, absolutely, as mentioned above you want to be truthful and upfront about everything.
7. In my experience you'd rarely have to send out an invoice - there are tons of apps that handle invoicing automatically too. The automated receipts/confirmation emails that people get are enough.
8. Get as many payment options up and running as you can. Preferably at least one where you can accept CCs directly on the site without any annoying pop-ups and/or redirects to third party sites as those can hurt conversions quite a lot.
9. Definitely shorten this as pekadis said.
10. You can block words on your FB page under "Page Moderation". I would also remove bad comments altogether.
Your product pages might need some extra design work in terms of contrast, they seem quite overwhelming with all the black/dark text - what should I focus on? What are the most important parts on first glance? Perhaps add in some lighter font colours for the less important bits and definitely play around with font sizes to establish a better visual hierarchy - for example, larger font sizes for the product name, price tags/discounts, free shipping etc.
I think it's more important that you handle all of the possible issues you posted ASAP and just get to launching some campaigns, seeing what your performance looks like and whether these products convert well/have potential, only then I'd start worrying about CRO and the likes.
I also wonder about Mailchimp. I've created the list and Mailchimp form: http://eepurl.com/dptRxT .
I'd like to use it in my footer subscription form but when I pasted Mailchimp form url in my theme settings, it firstly opens http://eepurl.com/dptRxT and then customer needs to fill all fields. Is it possible to make it locally? I mean somebody enters e-mail in the footer of my store, clicks Sign Up and he is added to Mailchimp list without any redirection.
Any ideas?
I've run an Engagement campaign and stopped it after two days to write a post here with some feedback. I spent around $12.
I'm pasting Gyazo links here, because I'm getting an error when I'm trying to add photo by url: https://i.gyazo.com/21332ecc32ad5aef...8cc757bfb1.png

2. Movie: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lxicmuo5k0...Neck2.mp4?dl=0
3. Accuracy: 5
4. Targeting - USA (shopping online, drone, unmanned aircraft) - Facebook suggests Polish names of interests, does it matter?:

8. I'm collecting my pixel by Engagement campaign to have a possibility to run Conversion campaign with Lookalike audience.
9. I'm not sure how it works, because people clicked on the button only 6 times and I see in Google Analytics that they entered my store only 20 times. However result (user activity) is 836 and the cost is very low ($0.015). I'm not sure what is user activity here? People haven't liked too much, they entered the website just 20 times and the user activity is so big. I appreciate any explanations. Is value 836 collected by pixel?
10. No conversions.
11. What do you think I should do?
My two cents: are you providing value for the audience you are targeting?
From my experience, plain direct selling is very hard.
If you provide value to the people you are targeting, they will be more likely to buy from your shop (and they could potentially come back again to check if you put more interesting info).
Hello Zyggmunt! Let me try to give you some feedback:
1. Imo this is too direct for the very first campaign. it's better to start with lighter campaign, tease a little ('are you having THIS issue with your drone?' or whatever, provide some value, maybe drive them to blog post) and than retarget people that showed some interest (i.e. clicked the link) with more direct one.
2. Movie is nice, maybe with more teasing text it would fare well.
4. With general interest it doesn't, it's just a translation.
5. Try to test all of the channels to see where you have actual engagement.
8. Thats good, but I believe you need to spend much more to have a chance at creating valid lookalike audience.
11. Offer some value, maybe little youtube movie, maybe a blog post. Try to hang out in all drone-related groups, to get some free traffic and feedback.
Let us know about the results, good luck!
