College Student Back on STM After 2 Month Hiatus!
Hey Guys,
Hope everyone's having a dope lazy Sunday. I returned to my University after a week's vacation in The Bahamas. Plenty of scantily clad women and exhilarating vices in Nassau; Apparently Tai Lopez was there for a few days last week giving a speech at the casino - shame to have missed him. Have any of you visited Nassau before?
Anyways, now that I'm back on the grind I feel like an affiliate getting his first convert - hungry and excited for success. I start my full time job in Venture Capital / Private Equity in July, but until then I have a few things on my agenda:
- I picked up a gig working for a local advertising/content firm to make some cash until I start my full-time job. What do I do? I copywrite, write content-based blog posts, and any other ad-hoc advertising/content work I'm given. I read Drew Eric Whitman's "Ca$hvertising" and used some of its techniques to craft some of the content I've written thus far. I believe that building up this skillset will help me optimize my personal performance marketing campaigns going forward. Especially when it comes to landing pages / long-copy writing. I can definitely boost my conversion rate by learning the skills on my own and practicing them.
- Regarding that subject - I'm looking to dive back into the AM/eCommerce space. I dabbled a bit in AM, following the Newbie tutorial and launching a few camps in tier 3 geos. Nothing major by any means, and no profitable camps. I had to stop since I was strapped for cash, and while I'm by no means flush with cash now, I have time to learn and to try out a few things before I start my job in July. What should I focus on if I'm looking to maximize the use of my copywriting skills?
- One of my mentors suggested that I try and figure out the high-margin info product space. i.e. lead generating with paid traffic, inviting leads to an online seminar, and then converting on a high priced $700 product. There is a good Neil Patel video from AWAsia 2016 on the business model if anyone wants to learn more. Only problem is that I want to stay invisible (not risk reputation loss). I have a friend willing to partner with me for 30% equity. So, he would be the "face" selling a high-margin info product, while I would be writing all the copy/scripts, managing the ads, and doing everything else for 70% of the profits. Any thoughts on this?
- Besides that, I'm looking to specialize in eCommerce. Do you guys think I should learn FB ads through affiliate marketing first? I'm not looking to spend a ton on the high fixed costs that sapped my funds last time, and one of my mentors told me that FB has their own tracker, and that I wouldn't need AdPlexity if I'm writing my own stuff.
Anyways, that's what I've been up to thus far. What has been new on STM? I know there's an NYC meetup in July - I'll try and make it to that. What have been some of the more popular trends in the space - are people still gravitating towards eCommerce? Is dropshipping still saturated? Are people still trying to figure out mobile? Any suggestions/comments are greatly appreciated.
Lastly, does anyone have any advice on what I should be doing now in my spare time? Assume I don't have tons of money to throw at traffic right now, but that I'm willing to dabble a bit before July when I'll start generating real capital to put into my business, etc.
Cheers to a great fucking year,
$Train

If you are just looking for a face of a video, there are plenty of people who will do that for $5 or a bit more

Fiverr is definitely a good source, but do you/anyone have experience in partnering to launch an actual product? i.e. 30-40 15 minute videos with How-To/Actionable steps in each video. Would image a fiverr partner would need to be paid quite a bit more for that, and would need to help be the face of the ads, etc. Just wondering

Many folks on STM have launched products. I think you really have to try it out to see if it works or not. You really need to decide what is more valuable, 30% of profits or some flat out fee. There are plenty of people who will be a video spokesperson for your product for a few hundred dollars.

I think you need to focus on one thing, you are now searching too much in different spaces or react on rumors what works nowadays or not. Screw it and go back to basics. Should I learn this, should I learn that? NO! Check what skills you already have, check what parts of AM you are really interested in, and ignore all kind of rumors people making money via e-com, mobile whatever.
If you have that in place, it becomes more and more clear which vertical, traffic source is most suitable for you to start with on little scale, since the money train is quite empty you are saying.
Spend time on things you want to learn yourself, use your own skills next to that and you may find a way to become profitable soon. Outsource difficult/time consuming stuff.
