Revcontent Spent 500% of Daily Budget in an Hour

I used Revcontent for the first time and I set a daily budget of $100. Within 1-2 hours, they spent something like $500. My account went negative. ($100 is the minimum daily limit that Revcontent says they'll allow.)

I had a similar experience with PropellerAds where I set a daily budget of $10 and they spent $30.

Is it common for traffic sources to blow multiple times over the daily limits?

If it is, how can I limit spending, while testing? I can't afford to spend $500 per campaign while looking for profitable campaigns.

It can happen. Especially if you are targeting really broad on traffic sources that have a lot of traffic. Most traffic sources have some sort of policy regarding this. Like they can spend 10-20% over your budget. You should contact revcontent. They might refund you a portion of what was over spent.

I contacted my account manager. He said because I didn't specify a geo, the campaign spent hundreds within an hour. After the dust settled, I think it spent over $700.

Because this was my first campaign with them, Revcontent refunded everything. Lesson <expletive> learned.

This is a problem of their backend solution and they know it very well, that's why they are willing to issue these refunds. I thought they have fixed this by now ... looks like they don't care much, I guess some people just take the loss and don't chase the refund.

On a side note : not specifying a GEO is a huge mistake, make sure to not repeat it

That's good you got your money back. I have made some similar mistakes over the years. Some networks are cool and will work with you, some won't. It's good to know Revcontent is one of the cool ones.

Same Happen to me a few days back.
There were two campaign
I set 100$ campaign and I mistakenly didn't specify geo. My CPC was 0.34$.
and another which I targeted in USA with same CPC
Just after I activate my campaign in every refresh, I am losing 5$ each
Pausing campaign and changing bidding doesn't work.

Thanks for telling us know you got a refund...

I may have the best one.
My first dealing with Revcontent:
I did specify a geo (US), but didn't specify any targeting beyond that...wanted to see what happened.
$100 daily limit. 30 minutes after my camp went live I had spent $1,200!
It hit $1,600 before the bleeding finally stopped.
But Revcontent refunded me $1,500 the next day.

I was both terrified and very impressed by the power of the platform.
Like when you hit the accelerator too hard on a race car.

Were you able to get any valuable data from the $1600 in ad spend? Did it result in any conversions at all?
