Facebook + Ecommerce (18)

Facebook + Ecommerce

This will be my first follow along on here. Going to be promoting physical ecommerce products via facebook ads. Everything will be totally white hat. Not promoting any affiliate offers either. Right now I'm not focused on profits at all. If I find some winners then great, but not expecting it in the beginning. The main goal right now is to learn and master the fb ads platform as fast as possible.

Things I've already done:

- Domain registered and some LP templates hosted
- Voluum tracking initial setup and tracking tests completed
- Facebook page created and been posting every now and then past 2 months
- FB business manager created.

Things I'm working on right now:

- Finishing setup of store home page
- Finishing LP funnel templates
- Continuing to share on fb page to keep the page active

Been busy just getting everything setup. I originally wanted to use clickfunnels to build out all of my landers but after playing with it for 2-3 days I decided it wasn't worth it. I guess it can be a great tool if you don't like dealing with code but I found it much faster to just rip proven landers and then modify them. I now have my full ecom site up and various landers as well. Just have various tweaks to make and then I should be running ads sometime next week. Then the real work begins.

Almost done with setup, took much longer than I expected. Finalizing some ad strategies over next couple days. Products and landers ready to go. Should have ads running by end of this week.

I noticed a lot of FB + Ecommerce threads in the ecommerce section in the forum... wondering if I should move this over to there and if it will be more relevant and get more traction there. Is there a way to move a thread? Assuming I need to make a new one.

I should have ads running by Friday night. I'm going to be completely transparent about the entire process including what products I'm promoting and how I'm targeting.

Started running like engagement ads for several of my pages. About to setup some quick PPE campaigns for a few products. At this point my main goal is spending ~$100 as fast as possible. I created my business manager just after they changed the ad account limit from 5 to 1, so now I'm stuck with just one ad account. I was told by other members in some Shopify fb groups to spend ~$100 and then I could gain access to more ad accounts. I'm not sure if that happens automatically or if I need to contact FB support and provide a reason for the extra accounts. I'm assuming the latter... can anyone confirm? I've heard some people mention telling FB you're an agency and need the accounts for clients etc. Seems like lots of people are just saying this to get the accounts, but we actually do plan on operating as a sort of agency and have a lot of ideas we want to test with various partnerships but really do also need accounts to keep everything separated out. I have a nice looking agency website setup representing our company and I'm hoping this helps a bit.

I'm just promoting ecomm products and everything is 100% white hat. Nothing is too aggressive when it comes to products, landers, or ad copy but still... only having a single ad account just seems like a terrible idea. Right now my root domain is just a basic Shopify store. That's all I feel comfortable driving traffic to right now. I have some great landers templated and ready to go on a subdomain but I'm hesitant to drive traffic to them until I can gain access to more accounts. I'm hoping that by the end of the week I'll make some progress on this. Having the expected 5 accounts would be awesome and then I can really get rolling on this.

If anyone can offer insight on the "spend ~$100 to unlock the additional accounts" that would be great. I keep seeing this but haven't actually heard from anyone who has been successful with it.

Thanks.

I'd shoot them an email and ask for more accounts. If you have an actual website and your current account is in good standing, they'll bump it up a bit (not to anything crazy like 500 accounts though).

Currently have campaigns running for a bunch of different products. I have a couple of different ad strategies I'm playing around with and testing. Just trying to gather some initial data and get a feel for things. Right now I'm just running page posts in news feed and sending traffic to a simple Shopify product page. Don't even care about conversions right now just trying to test initial ad metrics like relevance score and CTR. The PPE strategy I'm following right now requires 4 or more unique link clicks within the first 24 hours or you're supposed to kill the adset. So far I've had one product reach that. By end of day 2 it needs 1 sale or 15 unique link clicks in order to continue running. If it still has 0 sales by end of day 3 you're supposed to kill the adset at that point. Would love to hear what you guys think of this PPE strategy.

Other than just testing the above PPE strategy, I'm also excited to take some of the best looking products from those tests, even if they failed, and following alternative strategies like going straight to WC campaigns to feed the pixel or straight to conversions as well. Just trying to remain completely open to things. For all I know I have a product that does average on the PPE strategy but fails those rules, and then I move it over to WC or conversions and can make it work that way. I'm trying not to stick to any one strategy at this point, which is funny because I see a lot of people on facebook getting defensive about their perfect strategy and what works for them... and it seems like everyone has a different strategy lol.

So just trying to get a feel for things and keep an open mind at this point. I'm hoping within the next 30 days I can find 1 or 2 products that show promising metrics to where I can focus on those and optimize the campaign to profitability. I really just want to get to go through the process of building a winning campaign. That's all I care about right now. If anyone wants to share their facebook ad strategy with me I'm open to learning and testing it right away.

Oh and also for the PPE strategy I described above, I thought I'd describe the targeting it uses. Basically you always target the "Online Shopping" interest. This lives in it's own level. You then flex with page interests related to your product. Lastly, a third level contains interests for stores that actually sell your product. You can obviously use demographic interests when relevant as well but one thing I was told was to never stack demographics/behaviors with interests. Here's an example if you were selling a product for dogs:

Level 1: Online shopping
FLEX
Level 2: I love Dogs, We Love Dogs, Dog Lovers (Stack)
FLEX
Level 3: PetSmart, Petco (Stack)

The recommended final audience size is 350k - 850k.

If anyone has any comments on this would love to hear them.

Apologies for the delay I must have missed the notification for this and never really updated this thread either. One of the reasons I didn't post frequent updates was because I just had so much to learn and figure out I didn't think I'd be able to do a good enough job of parsing all of the info and sharing it. If anyone wants to read a follow along that was similar to my own experience please see Sam's follow along thread here: https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...press-Facebook

@Sam I had a very similar experience as you. Learned all the ins and outs of Shopify + dropshipping + fb ads. Tested a bunch of products, found one good winner, implemented upsells to boost AOV, tried to optimize customer support, etc. Had some profitable days but had trouble keeping things consistent. One thing I wish I would have done and something I'll probably be testing in the near future are funnels. I was just driving traffic straight to the typical Shopify product page. There are a few niche products that I promoted that I think would have had much higher conversions if I would have sent the traffic to a funnel.

The reason I haven't tested more yet though is because dropshipping was never really my goal and neither is running an ecom store or building a brand. I just wanted to run some campaigns and get a feel for the current ecosystem and all of the tools that everyone is using. My real goal is to take my programming skills and use them to build tools and apps to help solve problems in the ecommerce and performance marketing space. I am currently working on some exciting apps that solve problems I experienced myself and I'm excited to share them with the STM community in the near future.
