Question About Campaigns in Foreign Languages

I am anxious to run my first campaign but there is an obsticle I need to understand before I take the next steps.

As it is recommended for beginners to start with TIER 3 and 4 GEOS, I do not understand how to deal with the language translations. I see threads that mention using language translation services, but in my mind that would slow down the campaign significantly. I mean, every time I want to change ad and/or landing page copy during testing it means I would need to submit to the translation service, then wait for the reply. Is that how everyone does it? If I want to change one word, I'd need to wait days to do it? And pay for it each time?

If anyone has insight or can point me to a tutorial that explains how this is typically done, it would be greatly appreciated. I tried searching the forum but couldn't find what I am looking for.

Hey Phil,

For short sentences like Google translate works great. You don’t need to go to a translation service unless you have a long copy to translate, which will require accurate translation.

Considering that you are looking to use landers (where you’d need your text translated) borrowing some from spy tools would be fine in the beginning.

Besides time when translating texts, cost is another thing to take in consideration. You don’t know yet if the translated version of text will help you increase your conversion rate.

Platinum said it all, I just have to add another option - you can search for Facebook translation groups, and ask people to help you out. Maybe in exchange you'll help them later as well. It should be easy, if the text is small. OR if in your affiliate network people speak that language (ask, because teams are often very international), they may be able to help you to translate several samples, our support team does it sometimes.

I definitely agree with platinum - try not to spend money on translations in the very beginning, unless you can get them very cheap. Downloading and fixing up a new set of landers from Adplexity that is ALREADY in the correct language would be a better way to go.

For paid services, consider going to Fiverr (much cheaper) or OHT (much pricier).

Or, just use good old Google Translate like platinum suggested - the quality has gotten pretty decent in recent months. Tip: For best result, rewrite the ad text into short sentences first, and rewrite any figures of speech into literal phrases, before running it through google translate.

Once you see a lander getting good results (i.e. making profits), THAT would be the time to consider spending money on proper translations. Also, some translators are more skilled than others in translating advertising text. For campaigns that are making you lots of money, definitely test translations from several different sources. I've seen cases where translations I paid a pretty penny for, performed worse than the same lander translated using google translate. Go figure.
