FB So Savage (13)

FB So Savage

Although I've done all the reading I can, I find that that nothing quite does it like a practical run on my end. Right now, I'm having trouble setting up my tracking where the campaign link in Voluum doesn't follow through on my LP and gives me a "site can't be reached" message. Help!

Okay so updates for last 24hr run (with sleep):

#Got logged out of two FB accounts and managed to get one back -thank goodness because that's the one I'm overly invested in. I guess we can safely assume that FB is on some mission to secure tf out of life. Not sure what exactly triggered the logging out, but I've put it down "suspicious activity" to the moments when setting up my ads (or trying to at least) so I'm guessing their latest updates sniffs out any links or suggestions coming from affiliate networks or tracking links so don't leave any traces of such activity on your account? Those with more experience would know better how this works, these are just my thoughts.

#during my logged out time (oh, the facebookery!!!), I went snooping about two other traffic sources, which seem cool and all but can't currently run any ads on that due to little funds but definitely have them lined up for better days and...

#turns out part of the problem from my above post were my domains defaulting but managed to get those pointed again after retracing my steps. Although the sites themselves are up and accessible I'm really struggling with the last part of setting up my campaigns because the final link from my LP leads me to image 1. I've included screenshots of all my steps, not sure if it helps but if any one wants to make any suggestions please do so ,that would be very welcome right now. This is my biggest frustration so, Direction please?

# Round of thanks to:
1)Vortex - read the guide only to find that I'd missed a few details and so saved myself a little more frustration there.
2)Mobidea - honestly, I can't even tell ya'll how much you rock for putting up with the nothingness from some of us newbies!
3)The Newbies who're chronicling their own journeys: we're all asking the same questions.

Can you show us the setup for your offer in Voluum? Looks like the URL is not correctly set up there.

Also, have you added your click tracking link (I think that's what Voluum currently calls it) to the lander? It should be where your exit link points to.

Thanks to the shout out - we'll provide any assistance we can. Let's do some troubleshooting.

I'm really struggling with the last part of setting up my campaigns because the final link from my LP leads me to image 1.
What is the url?

And as caurmen mentioned, you need to replace the outgoing links on your lander - the ones you want to send visitors to the offer via - with Voluum's click url. You can get this url by going to Voluum's settings (the little gear icon at the top) > Tracking URLs > copying the click url.

Please do provide more details and we'll troubleshoot until we can crack this.

Signing in - Hi everyone! Thank you for your help.

This is what the offer set up looks like in Voluum:

This is the click url that I've pasted in the body of the LP. Is it right?

Update:

The click url works! Leading to random offers/pages/stuff/things and not the one I wish to run?

First of all - please clear your browser cache before each test. If you're using google chrome, this will allow you to do that in 1 click:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...er-info-dialog

Secondly - Which url are you browsing to in your browser? Simply browsing to your lander url will not work - when you click on the click url, the lander will not know where to send you.

You'll need to create a campaign in Voluum, specify landers and offers in the campaign settings, then paste the resulting Voluum campaign url in your browser.

Also: If you're not living in the geo you're targeting (i.e. a geo that is accepted by your offer), then you'll need to install a VPN like hidemyass and set it to your target geo. Otherwise, when you try to access the offer, the affiliate network will see that you're from an unaccepted geo, and instead of sending you to the offer which doesn't accepted traffic from your location, it will send you to another offer that does.

Moreover: If your offer only accepts traffic from a specific mobile carrier, and no wifi traffic, then you'll need to have a SIM card for that specific mobile carrier AND a data plan in order for the aff network to redirect you to the offer page. If this is the case for you, just set up a campaign with the smallest budget possible, in order to send some mobile carrier traffic to the offer, then check your aff network's stats to make sure that the traffic DID end up at the right offer. This would be the simplest way. Downside is you wouldn't know what the offer page looks like yourself - you can try asking your AM though, sometimes they have screenshots of the offer page. Some networks even have them available by default on the offer description page.

So - do please let us know what type of offer it is - specifically what type of traffic it will accept. Wifi? Carrier? Which geo? And which geo are you browsing from?

Hi Vortex.

I figured that I'm not seeing the offer because it's not targeted to my Geo indeed.

"Secondly - Which url are you browsing to in your browser? Simply browsing to your lander url will not work - when you click on the click url, the lander will not know where to send you.

I'll admit that how this click url works is going right over my head here. Is the campaign url for testing purposes only, like where do I paste it (other than the browser?) Is the click url simply the same for every lander with no editing? I created a campaign accordingly and the campaign url led me to my lander with click url still leading to the random offer on the other side. Thanks for the heads up with the hidemyass - now added to my list of tools.

The offer:
#Sweepstakes
#AU
#3G+Wifi
#14 OS
What are "segments" for/about?
I'm browsing from South Africa.

I did set up a campaign in FB to see if the traffic does reach the end point but can't give a more useful update than this because I woke up to find that there was no data from the campaign. I set up a second round where the add ad rejected and then a third where there was still no data coming through- so I basically spent the day troubleshooting this and trying to get something out of that campaign which is literally only working now (very frustrating).

Tracking can be very confusing - I feel you for sure.

Yes, Voluum's click URL will be the same on all landers (generally speaking - unless you're wanting to link to several different offers on the same lander at the same time). The lander itself does NOT need to "know" which offer to send the visitors to - the offers are not hard-coded into the lander. If the offer WAS hard-coded into the lander - i.e. if you were to put your affiliate link on the lander directly - then the lander will ALWAYS just go to that ONE offer. That way you won't have the flexibility to rotate/split-test offers. Worse, when you put your affiliate link on the lander, the visitors would just click directly on the aff link to go to the offer, completely bypassing Voluum - so Voluum won't know how many visitors have clicked on the lander or which of them goes on to convert after they land on the offer.

This is why, instead of putting the aff link as the lander's outgoing links, we put Voluum's click url instead. When you create a campaign in Voluum, get the campaign url and browse to it, Voluum will control the flow from start to finish: Which lander and offer to send the visitor to. This way, Voluum will know each time a visitor clicks on an outgoing link, and will be able to control and track which offer to send the visitor to, and will know when a visitor goes on to convert (well - after the aff network sends a postback). Also, if you're split-testing 3 offers say, then Voluum would send the 1st visitor to Offer1, the second visitor to Offer2, and the third visitor to Offer3 for example. When you browse to the Voluum campaign url, Voluum will control and track everything, which is the point of using a tracker in the first place.

Since the offer accept wifi traffic, you should be able to see it from your own device/machine by setting your VPN to AU. So in this case you can verify the entire flow without having to send actual paid traffic from a live campaign.

I did set up a campaign in FB to see if the traffic does reach the end point but can't give a more useful update than this because I woke up to find that there was no data from the campaign. Yup. Instead of setting up a live campaign, you can just verify your setup by setting your VPN to AU. Make sure everything works, then send live traffic.

Let us know how you get on - if necessary we'll do more troubleshooting until we get this to work.

Okay Here we go. Vortex, thou hast the patience of a saint! I'd like to think that things from my end have finally clicked (ha-pun!) in terms of setup. I lost the whole week waiting for my next cash injection so I could run some campaigns (doing this on a pro rata basis is rather stressful actually, so it would be great to at least cover my costs round about now) but by any means neccessary I will get this done.

Below are some screen shots from the past few days of what I've run but looking at them, I'm having a really hard time getting a conversion so I'm doubting a lot. I might still have something wrong and not know it (that or my other variables just suck?). Clicks have registered on the affiliate networks end if that helps. As for landers, I've switched between ripped landers and some modified on my own. One of the campaigns even had some engagements and comments on fb but still no conversions.

Anyways this is my summary for now? What stats should I aim for before knowing to quit- a campaign that is? Suggestions?

Past 3days

Past day

Past 7days

Thanks for showing the stats! However, 2 of the screenshots aren't showing up:

I'm really not an expert in FB - but what's your CPC? How much have you spent to collect those stats? And are the stats in your last screenshot lander stats? What's the offer payout? And which geo if you wouldn't mind disclosing?

As long as clicks are showing up in your aff network's offer stats, tracking should be fine. We won't know whether the postback was set up correctly until you get your first conversion, but at least we should your traffic isn't being wasted - it's being directed to the correct offer.

2 suggestions:

First of all - I'm actually quite concerned whether your tracking is set up correctly or not. To verify, could you please provide the following (please feel free to change the affID or offerID in the links - all I need to verify are the tokens at the end of the links):

-Aff link (and please specify the aff network)

-Offer link you put into Voluum when adding he offer

-Voluum Postback URL

-Postback url you inserted into the aff network

Let's start with these.

Secondly...I would strongly suggest that you not use FB at this point.

Use pop to come up with a promising offer+lander combination first, then scale to FB. No need to be wasting test budget on both.

(Exception: If you're running a niche sweeps offer and targeting users by interest, such as targeting Tesco customers with a Tesco voucher offer, then that's something you can only do on FB. Still though, you can use pop to test different landers for that specific offer to find one that works the best, then scale to FB. It may be cheaper.)

Test 5-10 landers to cut down to a winner, then use that winner to test more offers until you find one that converts well. You can follow the process illustrated by these 2 lessons:
