(1) Year Of Native Stats [Top Ads 2017, Top Networks 2017, List of Top Referrers ]

Hey guys,

hope you had a nice holiday .

I believe I'm not the only one to think that 2017 was an important year for Native advertising in general.

It was the year during which Native Ads went viral and everyone tried to jump on the running train and a seat.

So I wanted to get a general overview and try to understand what happened during the past year:

Which affiliate networks dominated the scene? [Top affiliate networks list included]

Which ads were the most successful? [Top 50 ads with statistics included]

Which traffic sources and sites (publishers/referrers) generated most of Native traffic? [Top referrers list per each traffic source included]

So I looked at the stats from 2 platforms (which have become the main source from where affiliates get their insights) Adplexity and Similar Web, and tried put together some detailed and “human readable” reports, which are available to download for everyone.

Hope you will find this useful .

ADPLEXITY

This platform has now become the standard of the industry for those who want to stay informed about what their competitors are running.

But we often get too involved on everyday stats and lose the big picture.

So here is what Adplexity says about the year we just left behind:

SIMILAR WEB

Similar Web is another service that offers more “Google Analytics Style” insights: amount of traffic, list of referrers ( where the traffic is coming from), user behavior (time on site, pages viewed per session, bounce rate), etc.

We used Similar Web and tried to put side-by-side some of the most important Native Sources (Revcontent, Mgid, Outbrain, Taboola, Content.Ad), comparing traffic by device, time on site, bounce rate, etc.

And last but not least, we assembled some ready-to-download lists of top referrers for each traffic source, divided by Desktop or Mobile traffic [Downloadable From The Original Post].

* Native Traffic Sources 2017

Tot. Visits Desktop Mobile Avg. Time on Site Pages/Visit Bounce Rate
Outbrain 4.37 B 36.29% 63.71% 00:01:56 1.53 73.02%
Taboola 4.16 B 17.47% 82.53% 00:01:32 1.44 78.82%
Mgid 657.5 M 21.14% 78.86% 00:01:05 1.42 78.99%
Revcontent 524.4 M 5.15% 94.85% 00:01:06 1.45 74.39%
Content.Ad 37.36 M 14.89% 85.11% 00:01:11 1.5 78.06%

Next thing I did was going more into details for each traffic source separately, paying attention to where is their traffic coming from [Top referrers list for Desktop and Mobile].

I think it is important to have a deep knowledge of the kind of audience you are paying for on a traffic source, and this is only possible if you take some time to explore their top publishers, and, based on the content of their sites, create an idea of the audience you are targeting.

Having a list of top referrers for each traffic source can also be useful if you want to do your own manual “spying”.

First thanks for this solid data

i'm running POPs for 2 years

and NOW i'm focusing to switch to NATIVE ads

what verticals u should start NOW ? i need the easiest vertical to just get my first conversion ? I just want to prove the native concept in my brain

I Would start with MGID because can fund with $100 as a start

If need your advices to start

@phpman

If you're going to start with Mgid I would suggest low payout CPL offers:

- Dating CPL (anastasia date, russian brides, etc); ClickBooth is a network where you can find these.
- Casino CPL; You can find these from ClickSure, ClickBooth or ClickDealer
- Games; Gamesvid or PWN Games
- COD offers; AdsCombo is a good place to look for
- Binary/Make money from home stuff, always CPL

Any way you need to be prepared that the quality will not be great for these offers, and probably you will here from your AM or advertiser after a week or so.

Also I'd recommend as much info as you can to the offer network, like widget id, campaign id, teaser id, etc.

The more info you pass to the network more chances you will have to be able to optimize the campaigns by removing the low quality placements, and keep your camps running for a longer time.

Also one important think on Mgid is to play with the widget coefficients.

So keep a low CPC on teasers and adjust the widgets coefficients based on their performance.

First thanks for your notes

I'm very confused when i read that because one of my main reasons to go NATIVE is the quality
and i believe the quality is pretty good as much as in POPs and FB

I'm thinking to start with binary offers like cypro offers
my goal is see conversion as fast as i can !! as i told you just to prove the concept to me regardless the ROI and anything else

waiting your advices !!
