So I have a campaign running in a tier 1 geo that has a modest ROI (20% or so). Im running this campaign on self-serve platforms (TJ, Exoclick etc).
However as you know, on these platforms bidding/competition can get pretty intense, especially for premium spots.
So what ends up happening is I might profit for a few days, then some other advertiser will jack the bid prices up, and essentially all my volume/profits go away. Sometimes they leave and I can get some decently priced traffic, but sometimes they stick around and I have to give up on the spot.
At this point I can't really do a flat rate buy, as on some of these larger tube sites (ie Pornhub etc) the amount of $$$ involved is just too much. Plus who knows how long this offer will stay up, so Im not really looking to lock myself in.
Other than a flat rate buy, I don't see myself able to get consistent volume.
Now I guess you can say go find different sites to run on, however then again we run into the volume issue. I thought about going RON, but then I'd probably run into quality issues.
I've run campaigns in smaller geos, but even smaller geos it seems there are tons of advertisers lol.
So at this point am I just pretty much stuck?
Adjusting bid is something i do each day for all campaigns I run. It doesn't take much time if you have only a few dozen campaigns.
But if there are more campaigns than you can handle manually i think you can use TrafficJunky Rest API in Excel to populate all the bids into a column (Didnt try this, but should be possible)
You can also keep a column that tell you when to pause campaign if the bids are too high. Just keep an estimate of the highest bid that you are e willing to spent on a spot.
I really dont think there is any magic way to keep volume in Traffic Junky. If someone bids over you, you lose a majority of traffic. You will just have to keep bidding near to the top bid and stay profitable in the process by maintaining good ROI. I am struggling with it myself lol, especially in Tier 1 countries where competition is fierce.
