To infinity and beyond, hopefully

Hi all,

I've been meaning to get into the affiliate marketing arena for a looooooong time, I joined STM about 3 years ago, restarting my sub occasionally to have a look and think about starting up in this area. I never did so as I have another business that I've been concentrating on, but I feel that is starting to run down now and also doesn't take me a great of time to do anymore.

I'll be initially following Vortex's 40 day guide for newbies and concentrating on pop traffic for a while as I learn this trade.

There are 2 reasons for this follow along, the first is to hopefully get help and advice on my journey, the second is that I will at a minimum put up a weekly report to keep me accountable as I am highly susceptible to procrastination and posting a weekly report will motivate me to achieve more.

Follow me on my journey, to infinity and beyond! hopefully

RT

Hey RT thanks for giving the newbie tutorial a chance!

Will be monitoring this thread for further progress - while striving to get more lessons out!

Have fun!

Thanks Vortex, I really appreciate the content that you're putting out, the lessons and the linking out to other relevant related posts, it is awesome

Update #1
I am signed up with Mobidea, I am signed up with Voluum, I am signed up with Propeller ads, I have a domain on Namecheap.

Yesterday I managed to get my first campaign up and running, I am effectively upto the end of Day 4 part 1 of Vortex's guide.

It took a while to get to grips with getting Namecheap and Voluum right, I am a skim reader, even when it comes to detailed instructions and then I wonder why I don't get things right!!! Anyway, after reading and re-reading the instructions a few times and following the steps carefully I finally get things right and my first campaign is live.

It ran overnight, served me about 4'000 impressions with no clicks for about $9 spend, obviously it would have been great to get some clicks initially but I'm just happy that I managed to get my first campaign live (I only set one up).

The figures at Mobidea, Voluum and Propeller ads were different, 3405, 3191& 3846 respectively but I read on one Vortex's posts in the comments that variance like this is to be expected, although it is quite wide, this will be something I have to monitor.

Anyway, on to further reading, implementation of days 4pt2 - 7 and setting up more campaigns!

More updates to come and I'll do a weekly post on Sunday night/Monday morning detailing my spend and income.

Fantastic! Good to hear!

Since you're direct-linking, i.e. not using a landing page, you're NOT supposed to get clicks. Clicks are when visitors click from your lander to get to the offer page. So, as long as you're seeing stats within the Mobidea interface to make sure that the traffic is going to the intended offers, then you're all good.

Yup! That's known as "clickloss", and up to 20-30% is normal. So you're all good there.

Anyway, on to further reading, implementation of days 4pt2 - 7 and setting up more campaigns!

More updates to come and I'll do a weekly post on Sunday night/Monday morning detailing my spend and income.
Looking forward!

yep sorry, i meant conversions, not clicks. I need to be more careful/precise with my language here as similar things can actually be very different, CPA, CPI etc.

Update #2

So I set up 6 campaigns last night and this morning I woke up to 3 conversions, not massive but still a win for me, they're my first ones! YAAAAYYYY

Downside, the conversions were only showing up in Mobidea and not Voluum and Propeller and even then, only 2 were properly showing up in Mobidea.
If I look at days and the total revenue, there are 3 conversions (the campaigns ran overnight and are spread over 2 days), if I look at offers only one of the offers is showing conversions and it says 2. I had the system set to the last 7 days activity so all 3 should have shown up.

I am going to have a hunt around the 3 platforms, retrace my steps and try and figure out where I've gone wrong, I think I saw a post somewhere with a similar problem so I will try and figure this out myself.

If not, I'll be back with some screenshots and a plea, hopefully it won't come to that

Woot woot!!! First conversions! Can you please make a brag post here in the spanking new revenue milestones subforum:

https://stmforum.com/forum/forumdisp...-Conversion(s)

Simple instructions on how to construct the post:

https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...lestone-Thread

Regarding the postback not working: Please show me your offer link in Voluum (including the trailing tokens) and also the postback you've put into your aff network (again, including the trailing tokens). I'll take a look.

Please give me 24+ hours - boarding a plane soon! But I'll take a look as soon as I can.

thanks Amy, I'll put up a post in that thread shortly.

I got sidetracked over the weekend as I had a load of social xmas engagements, i don't have too many now, so back to concentrating on this.

I think I've found the issue, I didn't have the postback for Propellerads setup correctly in Voluum, I've corrected it I hope, I'm going to run that converting campaign overnight and see how I get on.
Hopefully it will all work ok. If not, I'll post up the details tomorrow morning.

EDIT - I STARTED RUNNING A CAMPAIGN A COUPLE OF HOURS AGO, IT GOT A CONV, IT'S SHOWING IN VOLUUM< WOOHOOOO.
Let's hope i get some more overnight.

Hey! Going to follow this thread too, to help you out from time to time, if you don't mind.
Congrats on your first conversions, and happy to see that you solved the tracking issue by yourself, normally this is where the newbies feel less comfortable with.

Best of luck!

Thanks Mobidea, all help is gratefully received.

Today I've set up 4 new offers, higher converting ones according to the Mobidea opportunities page. I'm getting quicker at setting these campaigns up but it would be helpful to have multiple screens!

With 2 of the 4 offers I've set up multiple campaigns for the first time, breaking each one down into separate campaigns by carrier, I'll let them run over night and see how they do, I'll update this post in the morning

ok, so i set up some campaigns earlier this week, i picked them from Mobideas opportunities tab, they were all in very small Tier 3 geos, i actually got a few conversions from them but the traffic is so small on each of the campaigns that they aren't really worth pursuing.

I'm going to set up campaigns back in the bigger tier 3 geos that Vortex recommends in her guide.

Back soon with another update

12-10-2017 09:49 PM #11 rugbytrader (Member)

well, i set up some campaigns for a big geo and i've learnt 2 lessons

1. check you get your settings right on Propeller, i didn't set the campaigns to distributed and 2 of the campaigns hit their limits very quickly
2. check that there is enough traffic for your campaign settings, 3 of my campaigns had no impressions and after having a look it became clear that there just isn't any traffic for the settings/requirements of that campaign

right, i feel confident about setting up campaigns now across, Mobidea, Voluum and Propeller, so time to go big.

I've been approved for a load of campaigns that qualify for the criteria in Vortex's picking offers guide and I've set up 20 campaigns, hopefully i'll find one or 2 positive campaigns to work on further, i'll report back tomorrow morning

If all you want is for conversions to show up in Voluum, then you don't need to set up the Propellerads postback.

EDIT - I STARTED RUNNING A CAMPAIGN A COUPLE OF HOURS AGO, IT GOT A CONV, IT'S SHOWING IN VOLUUM< WOOHOOOO.
This is basically all you need! No need to post conversions to the traffic source.

These are good lessons! The second one took me a long time to realize - after lots of tiny campaigns that hardly made any money.

Now we're talking! Looking forward to seeing some detailed stats! Profuse apologies for the late reply - I've been at AWA and then STM Island. Flying home tomorrow.
