Hi everyone, I have a question about prelanders,
so from what I understand, preelanders are the pages that come in the middle of the traffic source and the offer's landing page, which only purpose in life is to make the user to click on a button to move forward in the marketing funnel.
now.
what makes a good prelander?
I looked at adplexity a lot, and the prelanders there maybe work, but they are really boring. white, with some text..
yes, I do run prelander like that, and they do work.
but let's say I would like to research and think about new landers, how would you approach this?
let's say I have a sweepstakes landing page (of the offer) and all it has is a main image, some very limited text, or not at all and a form field.
where can I get inspiration for marketing ideas for the prelander?
thank you
Roman
Spying will inspire you quite limited, since the mass run same (kind) prelanders. Think out of the box, click on all banners you see during your time on internet, read things about neuromarketing, keep your eyes open when you watch tv, walk on the streets or doing groceries. Certain words, sentences or whatsoever might inspire you to come up with a new angle.
But creativity isn't really a thing you can learn I think. Perhaps you could try to open up more towards certain things/situations and step out the comfort zone.
A plain simple white lander could have a way better CTR than a slick design with all fancy stuff in it. BUT a better CTR doesn't mean it's a good prelander when it comes to pushing consumers to convert. "FREE MONEY" everywhere will have a good CTR probably, but you need to understand the full funnel (from ad setup/targeting right people etc -> button which makes the conversion) to make the prelander really additional to driving high conversion rates.
Personally I would avoid running direct-link offers unless I already have a proven publishers list for a specific geo-targeting.
Other than stimulating the visitor to opt-in/convert to a certain offer we are pushing, landers help a lot on getting a better picture of the traffic quality we are purchasing.
When it comes to coming up with new landers other than those seen in Adplexity, slight changes can give quite a lot better EPV/EPC compared to the ones used by everyone else.
If coming up with new words is not your main strength, just altering the color theme of a lander and updating images will help overcoming eye blindness of some landers.
thank you very much @stickupkid and @Platinum!
anymore useful advice?
Inspiration: look outside your usual verticals.
Look at how people selling loans do their prelanders, or people selling SaaS software, or books, or holidays, or kids' toys, or any other thing that people exchange for money.
Keep in mind the key differences between what you're looking at and your usual vertical (which could be the interruption level of the traffic source, for example, or the difficulty of getting people to convert).
Then pick some ideas that you think might work for your vertical, and test them out.
A lot of the techniques they use won't be appropriate, and a lot of landers you test inspired by those approaches won't work, but looking at other verticals and other sales techniques is a great way to freshen up your viewpoint on the vertical you're working in.
I also use spytools to get inspiration, I pick what I like or what I believe could work and ... I always modify it in some way! I play with the wording, the headlines, the imagery etc. I also get new LPs designed from scratch from time to time, but quite often, I return to the old format ... because simply put, the design has been proven by many marketers already, so there is a reason for it to be that popular. And this goes for several LP layouts across various verticals. Sometimes it's pointless to reinvent the wheel, but it always pays to make it better!
On the other hand, those that are capable of coming up with fresh and unique LPs, always reap the rewards of being the first ones to run them. Even the popular LPs that you can get from spytools now, had to be designed by someone, and people experiment with new stuff all the time.
A clever marketer should do both : copy and get inspired by work of others and also try to come up with their unique stuff.

Hi Roman,
Essentially, your page should have the following elements:
1. HEADLINE -- "Whats in it for them?"
2. BREAKDOWN THE STEPS - your users should be guided & be clear on what to do next.
3. CLEAR CTA BUTTON - make it BIG and put above the fold
4. FAST LOADING SPEED - I use this: https://gtmetrix.com/
While having a great HEADLINE and some catchy IMAGE (i.e. spinning wheel, prize image, gift, etc) help a lot in making your pre-lander very appealing, make sure that these elements wont distract user's attention.
Regarding the design, people react very well to familiar and common interfaces thats why you will see a lot of facebook-themed, iStore/Google play pages out there when you spy. You can use similar theme/designs first just to get started and work on split-testing your contents. Find your best content first. Once you find your winning content, you can then try to create your original designs & experiment from there. Master this and you can make your campaigns fly!
Other tips:
- Add some sense of urgency and scarcity to your page i.e. add a timer, offer expires in 10 mins, Limited supplies only, etc.
- Identifying your user's device so as to make it more credible i.e. "Your Samsung S8 battery is running low, etc"
Thats it. Hope that helps!
