Troubleshooting A Winning Campaign (4)

Troubleshooting A Winning Campaign

So I have a campaign (Adult Dating) that is roughly running 20-30% profit on Site A. However when I try to port it to Site B, it's break-even to slight loser.

This is a placement on a large tube sites (ie Pornhub, Redtube, Youporn, Xhamster etc), so it's not really some odd low-volume niche site that I am profitable on.

Now the only reason I can think why something would work on Site A and not on Site B would be the site demographics?

For example I expect the user base for a "mainstream" porn site like Pornhub to have a different audience than say an Xhamster? (before running adult I had never even heard of Xhamster, Youporn etc)

So the only thing I can really think of is maybe testing different images on my creatives? (maybe different site users have different tastes in women)

Or what would be your troubleshooting tips here?

Thanks in advance

Hey!

That's an interesting question. And do you change the creatives too when you port your ads to the site B, or you keep the same ones? My point is - might be that creatives are well adapted for one site but don't really feel natural with the other one..

All these big websites are diverse, I believe they try to attract as many different users as possible. So users have a large choice of content according to their preferences, regardless the website.. they are pretty equal in this sense.

These are my 2 cents, but of course looking forward to see other responses

Hello jabong82!

There a few things you should consider when thinking about running the same campaign on different sites, but I think it’s safe to say that it’s very common to get different results running the same offer on different publishers.

As you say, it depends on demographics, but also on the ad spots, volumes, geo distribution and how the competition is on the other publishers. It also depends if the sites you’re buying the traffic from is being bought from different ad networks too as competition will differ, but also targeting options vary from ad network to ad network, so this is also something to consider.

Our best advice would be to run a RON campaign on each ad network you’re working with and use a funnel strategy with it – this is a technique to help you identify which ad spots to focus your efforts on and maximize your conversions. Make sure you have tracking set up (ideally S2S), choose a bid somewhere between the top and minimum and monitor performance closely. Blacklist publishers which aren’t converting and create separate campaigns for any ad spots converting well so you can optimise that specifically. It’s not supposed to be extremely profitable but will help you stay on top of what is working for all of your relevant ad formats and GEOs so you’ll never be left wondering what to test!

And if you need any assistance, we’re always here to help you convert xHamster traffic and all our other premium publishers in our ever growing inventory.

I hope you find this helpful.
Best of luck!

The demo certainly plays a role, from the sites you mentioned, xhamster certainly has a completely different GEO from pornhub for example.

But its not just this :

- different competition levels, you might have been #2 on placement A, but since B is more competitive, you landed at #5 ... this is going to affect it a lot
- these large sites that attract a lot of "bookmarkers" have a lot of returning traffic that is used to the sites layout, this can play a role in the funnel ... pornhub is dark, xhamster is not ... so based on what your LPs look like, this can have an impact. I have even seen offers tweaked to match the design of these large tubes.
- different algos
- BOTs ... these large tubes are on all networks and let's just say not all of them are equally honest
- different ad serving algo - some sources prefer the highest bidder to the max, some aim to reach more even quality of traffic

There is a lot of differences between networks or spots, some changes are always needed - either some change in the funnel or bidding ... the good thing is, a solid funnel will usually perform at least DECENTLY on any solid spot with real traffic.
