DAY 1
Hi Guys,
will be working with lead impact as traffic source.
Won't be getting into specifics as to what I want to achieve just yet, the reason can be found here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwfKIetcxZo
Instead I'll be opting to post what my goals were and the success/failure I've had after the fact.
Stay tuned...
I couldnt care less about your goals
Its the stats, campaigns and results im interested in.
Good on you for posting a follow along. Looking forward to seeing your results.
And thanks for reminding me off that video. I saw it a while back and its an important insight.
great your taking action......def post what you can to get feedback....
DAY 2
Well, Pretty much a recap of day 1.
Planned to narrow down to 3 campaigns and have them all set up today, but totally underestimated the time I would be playing around with photoshop and prosper.
Managed to get one campaign into leadimpact, awaiting approval, should be live in a few hrs. I remember reading in the guide I should set it as inactive, and then activate it after approval. I must have missed why I should do that...
Set up 3 landing pages using the code from tijn, pretty getto, promoting dating. Just changed the call to action, also running a direct link.
Got about 12 targets, then expanded with a . in front or behind of url and a .c, .co and .com. Not sure if this will make any difference. Now have 66 targets, have set budget to 5 x offer payout, bid is .025 on LI. Too many targets?
I've set the bid in prosper to .015, which is what I was paying on LI last time I set up a campaign when I was targetting AU. Now I'm not sure if I change it in prosper to .025 it will mess everything up.
Also set up the target trimming code from ctrtard, pretty happy I got that to work.
any feedback appreciated
haha. I know. It always challenging at first.
Risk is -> you want your creatives to be perfect.
Wrong answer.
The key is to take (imperfect) action and then tweak. You loose less time, can create more campaigns, require less testing budget.
Dont set it to inactive as it wont get approved. Look over the relevant sectiopn of the guide -> key is to use dayparting to kind of make it inactive.
Reason is that LI can take a long time to approve and you might not be arround when they do. Then when you get back to your PC you notice that all your budget was spend on 1 target.
So you want to be there when you switch on traffic so you can look carefully and stop targets if they are at risk of eating up all your budget.
66 targets across 3 campaigns is fine.
66 on 1 campaign is probably too much when your starting out and have limited testing budget.
Good progress though!!
Well done
DAY 3
ok, a quick update on yesterdays performance.
campaign went live, was getting clicks, but I'd set up the tracking wrong so it was showing clicks, but was only showing the targets in prosper for the direct linking campaign...doh.
spent $28 in testing, got one lead for $5.60, so -80% roi. No idea where the lead came from.
I'm thinking maybe because I just put all of the js on the index.php from the offertest file, probably wasn't supposed to do that.
Now I've re-done all of the pages, just put them in a different folder each time so only have the landing page code once on each page. Have tested (I think) that the targets will show in prosper. Hoping I've set up the subids correctly.
I've also scrapped 2 of the landers and created 2 completely different ones, just so I have 3 completely different landers to compare rather than 3 almost identical landers, and also direct linking.
My thinking is that the affiliate link was still working, just not the tracking, so the landers I used probably weren't very good to get such a low cr. Hopefully the re-done campaign will show me clearly if any of the landers are getting clicks and conversions.
have also cut down on the targets.
Since my plan was to get 3 campaigns up and running, and I've so far only got one up and have now re-made it, I thought I'd better get at least one more up before the weekend. Have set up a direct linking campaign for a penny auction lead gen, I think the tracking is working. Time will tell

DAY 7
ok, so I slacked off on the weekend. My penny auctions got disapproved from LI, they have some deal set up with bidcactus so u can't promote it there, bummer.
I got 1 lead from the dating offer. When I re-set it up I changed to AU for cheaper targets and higher payout, so now I've spent $55.50 for a $12.60 payout. Hmmm. When i got the first lead, which was from direct linking, it was from 100 displays, now I've cut back almost all of the other targets, have had 483 displays on the target that generated the lead and still only one conversion. Is it time to cut my losses with this one?
Have set up 3 more campaigns today, a different penny auction lead, an auto insurance short form and a bingo signup offer. Have set my budget at 5x the payout/day for each of them. Each one is a lander and a direct link.
I've tested my landing pages on pingdom, they are all under 50k in size, usually getting 1.8sec load time, is that decent? I have some cheap VPS hosting at the moment, not sure if I need to upgrade.
thats the issue with LI!! They have so many intyernal relationships it becomes very hard to run stuff.
5xpayout is probably too much unless you have lots of money to burn. I would go for 2-3x payout.
Test your server with bliz.io so see how many concurrent users your server can cope with. If in doubt, switch to Beyond Hosting.
