Bye Bye Facebook Dark Posts and also spy tools
Starting next month, people will be able to click “View Ads” on a Page and view ads a Page is running on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger — whether or not the person viewing is in the intended target audience for the ad. All Pages will be part of this effort, and we will require that all ads be associated with a Page as part of the ad creation process. We will start this test in Canada and roll it out to the US by this summer, ahead of the US midterm elections in November, as well as broadly to all other countries around the same time.
- Include the ad in a searchable archive that, once full, will cover a rolling four-year period – starting from when we launch the archive.
- Provide details on the total amounts spent.
- Provide the number of impressions that delivered.
- Provide demographics information (e.g. age, location, gender) about the audience that the ads reached.

We know how important it is to our community that we get this feature just right — and so we’re first rolling it out in only one country. Testing in one market allows us to learn the various ways an entire population uses the feature at a scale that allows us to learn and iterate. Starting in Canada was a natural choice as this effort aligns with our election integrity work already underway there.
During this initial test, we will only show active ads. However, when we expand to the US we plan to begin building an archive of federal-election related ads so that we can show both current and historical federal-election related ads. In addition, for each federal-election related ad, we will:
Include the ad in a searchable archive that, once full, will cover a rolling four-year period – starting from when we launch the archive.
Provide details on the total amounts spent.
Provide the number of impressions that delivered.
Provide demographics information (e.g. age, location, gender) about the audience that the ads reached.

This is just in the idea stage realistically - very curious how the first version will look like and what the effects will be on advertising.
I think it could make it much easier for people to start off and also much easier to get banned for copyright infringement if they are not careful. The main pro is obviously seeing the ads other pages are running for products you can also run. The con is creativity becomes less important for Facebook for affiliate offers everyone can run - won't change if you have exclusivity on the product.

You can have exclusivity for a product but not for a niche...people will try the same targeting with your own lander and run similar offers. Even it would not convert for them, they'll still waste your audience and also flag your page (too many ppl running the same lander). Even for BH, ppl tend to copy even your safe page.

True. Doesn't sound good for any advertiser come to think of it.

It sounds crazy, why would they make such crucial data public. I understand if they want to release the ad/copy itself. But impressions, amount spent and targeting? Lol why would they do that?
I also understand that they are under extreme pressure due to the elections, and take drastic measures in that niche. But I want to know the thought behind making data public for all niches.

It is not showing any Ad-spent thought, yet...

To be honest I doubt a lot of "average" consumers are really gonna dig so deep and check this. I use my FB pages purely for the ads, never fill them with content or such and I see nobody comment about it, had max 10 people I think saying "this is not the real page of xxxxx". I know I should do it, to create a better reputation, but it has no focus at all.
These asumptions are based on my sweep experience by the way.

I am living* really far from Canada and not planning to get there anytime soon
Got it from a friend, I will try to get more info from him and share!

I agree but it will affect people/affiliates that advertise...
If you have a great Ad copy - you will be copied pretty quickly by your competitor which I believe, will bring the bids way up

I doubt it will have big impact, since the ads are now shown in loads of spytools. This update forces them to manual spy, which takes more effort and time right?

Ah, alright.

Would be cool, think everyone is very curious about the topic, and what this implies for affiliates and for consumers too.

I'm in Canada. There is no audience targeting data and no comment / like / share info.
Just ad creatives.

This doesn't really kill spy tools, as you need to find these pages running ads anyway before checking their ads. If anything, this will increase spy tool popularity and reach in my opinion. Also, since you can't see which ads are running currently(no comments), can't tell when it has been running. Not even discussing about account amounts which bigger affiliates burn weekly.
I think soon is time for us to come semi-public with our spy tool I been hogging for some time now, only 3g/4g mobile ads with around 30-40 ads daily with tracking links(read affiliate ads) recorded. We have discussed with our team about this feature of seeing all page ads and we think this will be really good thing to see more ads!
