From what I've read, a country like Germany offers lower Facebook CPMs than US, CA, etc.
So I'd like to start with a country like that.
However, I speak only English. Ideally, I'd like to start with English speakers and move into other languages after I get my feet wet. A country like Germany still has a sizeable English audience...
The Question: Are CPMs for English speakers on lower CPM countries still low? Or are they close to US/CA/etc. because of the English factor?
Basically, is it the country that lowers the CPM, or the language?
I know this is a broad question. Any insight would be appreciated! If it helps, this is FB traffic, e-com, niche products.
(I've posted a few threads in the past week or so... hopefully I don't wear out my welcome. Switched from affiliate to e-com after realizing how much I hated relying on advertisers/networks, and decided to target other countries after seeing it heavily recommended in the e-com section, and seeing first-hand how f*cking expensive US traffic is on Facebook.)
Thank you!
Can't say from experience (yet) but CPM should be driven based on the value of the customer, which usually means how often they buy. So language should have little to do with it - CPMs in CA and AU are also lower than US for that reason from my experience.
And conducting a small test should give you a pretty good idea as well. If you've been running in US you already know the prices there, so just set up a camp to target english speakers in DE and compare.
My guess is that Manu is right. But would be interesting to verify using an actual test.

Agreeing with Manu too!
It makes sense taking into account that USA is a highly competitive area, and your CPM increases based on the auction. It's a country with developed online consumer behavior where people are very used to buy things online, and it's simply a huge country. There are definitely less marketers targeting English speaking audience in Germany, and this might be the reason for lower CPM.
