game offer landing pages on pop traffic

hello all,

i have identified some consistently converting pop traffic placements with large amounts of available traffic using smart links. i reached out to my account manager and she was able to tell me the top three converting offers were mobile game offers so i signed up for the direct offers

unfortunately i have yet to promote mobile game offers so i am struggling to gain a clear vision of how to structure my funnels. the one thing i have heard is game offers can be successful via direct link but typically landing pages tend to work best. i did a quick direct link test and it looks like landing pages will be necessary

i am researching on adplexity but figure its best to also reach out for some help on building an approach. obviously i am not asking for freebies or specific secret sauce aspects. i am just hoping to get some general guidelines as to what type of landing pages are working

any input would be appreciated

just found this in the free landing pages forum:

https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...e-Mind-Of-Zeno

looks like the landing pages are very graphic oriented so it is going to require more image creation than actual page creation

anyone know of alternative approaches or is this pretty how game offer promotion works?

Don't reinvent the wheel at this point, you have adplexity so start there. Do not stop there though, find those that convert and make them better ... change images, work on the angles, improve graphics ... this is the standard process that works pretty much everywhere.

The imagery used in zeno's landers are all taken from the games directly, I'm pretty sure zeno didn't do the animations ... screenshots and some photoshop and that's it ... but yes, in case you can't do this on your own, some help would come in handy

In general there are 2 types of gaming offers: Ones that hardcore gamers play, which are typically desktop games - and ones that the general audience plays, typically mobile games.

Desktop games takes quite a bit of pre-selling, because it's a major time and money investment for a gamers to decide to start playing a new game.

This is often not the case with mobile games - people are just wanting to pass their time playing simple games, a few minutes here and there. There's no struggle to decide whether they should start playing a game or not, because it only takes a minute to download a game, and maybe another minute to get the hang of playing it. Thus, little to no pre-selling is necessary.

This is why for mobile gaming offers, direct-linking can work. If the graphics are attractive (as you've pointed out) and the conversion flow is simple (e.g. 1/2-click), no pre-selling is required. People would see the offer page, think "hm this game looks like fun!" Click to subscribe. Quick and simple.

Even for these offers though, you CAN potentially make them convert better by using a lander. However, keep in mind that a lander can do more harm than good.

Every extra step in your funnel will lose visitors for you (that's where the name "funnel" comes from), so having a lander will reduce the number of visitors that will reach your offer page. So that would be the harm.

The benefit would be if your lander is so good that it can pre-sell the visitors sufficiently, such that of the visitors that DO reach the offer page, a high percentage will go on to convert.

Now - because these mobile gaming offers don't require much pre-selling, you'll need to do some serious testing to be able to come up with landers that can do more good than harm.

If you are to test landers, focus on the graphics as you've mentioned. If possible, try to get some HD quality graphics from the advertiser. Failing that, you can try to install and play the game yourself and take screenshots and use those.

Also experiment with gifs.

The idea is to make the game look like fun, and you only have a second to convey this to the visitor.

Another thing to keep in mind is that there are a million and a half of these mobile gaming offers, and they don't all convert the same. I would suggest to not even bother testing landing pages until you see an offer converting decently with direct-linking.

So for example, pick 100 offers, spend 5x offer payout testing each, ditch the ones that don't convert at least once, and test the rest further. Once you've found a few gems, go through the trouble of testing landers for them.

One exception: Some offer pages suck - the graphics don't do the game justice. That's where making a lander with attractive graphics can do a lot of good.

Just my two cents.

@vortex, thanks for the usual well thought out, detailed response. i should have mentioned this but the offers are definitely the standard 'time pass' type mobile games

it seems to be somewhat difficult to track down landers for mobile games on adplexity which may indicate many are direct linked. the way you described testing it sounds like it is much more trial and error to find a working offer than i realized

for fun i threw together some quick gif landers to test. tried on pop and the ctr was 2%-3%. tried the same landers on a mobile exchange with some banners provided with the offer and the ctr averaged over 13%

unfortunately no conversions but the landers were pretty generic so i might try your approach of quick $5 camps on a lot of offers but may mix it up with direct link and some of the more successful landers i made to see which converts
