Hey team,
Just been reading a few threads about hosting and how it is important to have a VPS when tracking with prosper, as shared hosting (which i have with hostgator now) is unreliable and when i start pushing more traffic, won't be able to handle it.
Right now i'm a small fish, sending maybe 60 or 70 clicks a day through prosper on hostgator. At what point will it start to slow down and become a problem? 100 clicks? 500? 1000?
Could it be loading my sale pages slower right now?
Who's been through this before, thoughts?
Thanks!
Chris
yes it could be slowing things down and yes you could be loosing clicks.....
I know alot of people talk about how they have done $x,xxx/day on shared hosting, almsost like ts a badge of courage.
I think its dumb....
good hosting its one of the simplest and cheapest things in this biz.....but your whole business is built around it....
so why try to save $45~/month...I mean really thats the only diff between a decent host and shitty shared.....
every-time I have bettered my hosting I saw an improvement in CVR .....and less clicks lost......which is $$
i'd def hit these guys up for 202 they are great....the owner is here in the forums....

I second this^^^
BeyondHosting is superb! And the customer service you get is above and beyond (pun intended).
Remember to use their 50% off coupon for the first 6 months, which is found here on the forum!
Thanks guys, just reconfirming what ive been thinking. Just spoke to one of my mates who says he'll share his VPS with me as he's only using 1gb out of 1,000 gb. We're good friends and i trust him, would there be any problems sharing it with someone?
Technical problems i should say*
main concern is more on cpu and memory, hard disk space is cheap
Polarbacon is correct, but if you DONT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY to pay like 50 bucks a month for hosting... your shared host is fine. Scale up and focus on making more campaigns. I used a shared host when I first started and it wasnt that bad at all and you will definitely not notice a big difference especially if your running just a few hundred clicks a day.
Dont share a host man, that is pointless and your just wasting your time. Make enough money to afford your own, and if you cant, then IM is not for you.
I would wait until you can afford your own, I wouldn't share a car where you can't adjust the mirrors or driver's seat ;D
beyond hosting all the way.
Fantastic, thanks for the input team. I think ill wait until i am pulling a bit more moolah then go for Beyond hosting, Im not even pulling 100 clicks a day yet so ill continue with the shared hosting for a few more weeks then make my move.
The exception to "don't upgrade until you can afford to" is if you know that you've got a real shot at making serious money with a very high-volume campaign. I knew that my first good idea would require a minimum of 10,000 clicks a day. If I ran that same campaign with shared hosting at first, I would have likely lost the majority of my leads due to limited server resources and wouldn't have given my idea/campaign a fair shot.
This is pretty specific though.
So get cloud or something. That's what I'd do.
