Starting with Vortex guide - Looking forward to profits (13)

Thanks for asking questions before wasting further money!

First of all - I would like to ask for further information:

-How many offers did you test? And how much did you spend on testing them? If you're direct-linking and targeting carrier traffic, then if an offer doesn't convert at least once for every 5x payout in traffic cost spent, you should have nixed it.

-For every offer that has met the criterion above, please show placement/zone stats. Please show the first page of stats, but in 2 versions: 1)Sorted by descending impressions, and 2)sorted by descending conversions.

As for conversions and revenue not adding up - asking your AM would be the best approach. Sometimes the same offer can have different payouts for different traffic segments (e.g. different OSs and carriers), or you may have been targeting traffic that the specific offer did not accept, and therefore the aff network redirected the traffic to a different offer that had a different payout.

Hi Amy,
Thanks for getting back.

To answer your questions:
1) I tested 6 offers. I spent a little over $100 on them (I know, really stupid). They were all direct-linked.
2) No offer met the criteria of converting once for every 5x payout. Also, when I go to Voluum to get the zoneid report, it return 'unknown' in a single row. I'm not sure if you want a screenshot of that.

I've asked Mobidea's support about the revenue not matching up; they're looking into it.

I'm following caurmen's tutorial on mobile landing pages and will hopefully have something to show soon.

Regards,
Tapasvi

That's not called being stupid - it's called lacking experience. I've made many "stupid" mistakes that have cost me 10-20x+ of the small amount of money you've "wasted". You paid the $100 for a valuable lesson learned (i.e. not to spend too much money on testing any one unproven offer) - to me that's a good investment.

That's very unusual. We need to get that fixed before you spend any more money on campaigns. Without placements stats you'd be flying blind, and won't be able to optimize the camp by cutting out unprofitable placements.

How did you set up PropellerAds in Voluum? Did you use Voluum's traffic source templates for that? Could you please show me a screenshot of your PropellerAds settings in Voluum? (All the tracking tokens.)

Here is my Voluum set up:

This is the full postback url:
http://ad.propellerads.com/conversion.php?aid=127687&pid=&tid=30432&visitor_i d=${SUBID}

This is my Mobidea set up:

I had it set up the way you said to in the tutorial, but I wasn't getting click postbacks so Mobidea support asked me to change it to what I have now. I'm still not getting any proper postbacks lol.

Here is my PropellerAds set up:

Aaaand, that conversion tracking doesn't work either.

I finally have my domain (aff4win.com) ready with the cdn. I was having some hosting issues before. I'll be using that to host my landing pages.
Do you think I should bother with landing pages right now? Or should I first get a profitable direct link?

I tried a few more campaigns, no cigar. Stopping at 5x payout gives me less than 1000 impressions. Does that sound correct?

Thank you for your help

Tapasvi

P.S. Mobidea said the revenue didn't match up because whatever few cents I was earning came from SmartLinks. I only had 3 actual conversions/signups.

Thanks for the screenshots!

Lastly - could you please show me the link in your Voluum's offer's settings? (It needs to contain the clickid.)

And I'm still not quite sure how Mobidea's "subdomain" option works with regards to the postback - I only know that by inserting the entire postback url with the proper tokens has worked for me.

Very nice!

As for whether to bother with landing pages or get a profitable direct-linked campaign first - it's totally up to you. Direct-linked campaigns require a lot more testing to get profitable, but it's easier to set up and analyze stats for because there's one fewer moving part (i.e. landers). When you use landing pages, you'll have another element to optimize to increase your ROI, but it's a bit more difficult to set up the testing correctly and decision-making is more complicated because you have this extra element in the funnel.

Although it's still very possible to make money with direct-linking, I would recommend to start testing landers ASAP.

Ah I see - this is a common scenario. Thanks for reporting back!

Here's a screenshot of the offer set up:

So I guess the link you want is this:
http://www.rotationurls.com/offer/126619|13959?data1={campaign.id}&data2={clickid}

I actually started with the full postback url and when that didn't seem to be working, that's when Mobidea support recommended the subdomain option (though that's not working either).

Thank you for the suggestion on landing pages. I'll start working on those...as soon as I get my tracking/postbacks working. Lol

Yup this is what I wanted to see thank you!

Forgot to also ask for the global postback you've set in Mobidea before - could you please show that also?

Amy

Sure.

This is what I had before in Mobidea:
http://tecome-thenction.com/postback?cid={{DATA2}}&payout={{MONEY}}

This is the secure postback URL, but I wasn't using this:
https://dawhk.voluumtrk2.com/postback?cid=REPLACE&payout=OPTIONAL&txid=OPTIONAL

Thank you,
Tapasvi

This is very perplexing!

OK - last resort - please PM me your skype, and update this thread to remind me to check PM.

Time to do a quick Teamviewer session.

I want to thank vortex/Amy for taking out time to troubleshoot my issue. That was very nice of you.

P.S. None of the offers converted. I'm going to continue on adding more and start testing landing pages.

You're very welcome! I'm glad we uncovered the issue in the end!

Feel free to ask lots of questions along the way. I'm writing the landers part of the tutorial with full force as well - should be ready in a couple of weeks.
