First Mobile Campaign - Sweeps Focus

First Follow Along - Sweeps for PIN Submits

Hey everyone, i joined STM a couple of weeks ago and have been reading post daily. Although i don’t feel ready I’ve decided to start my first campaign because I think I will learn more by doing than reading. My situation reminds me of a quote i like a lot by Chris Rock talking about getting help pushing stalled car
“When I stood there trying to flag someone down nobody stopped. But when I pushed my own car, other drivers would get out and push with me.”
Theres no way i know enough right now to have a successful campaign but hopefully this follow along will show that I’m trying to push, and I will learn what i need along the way.

A little about me. I was an accountant and quit my job about 6 months ago. I was lucky enough to start a PL that is making me a decent living. While I like PL my dream is to be in marketing. I am extremely inexperienced and have only been studying this for the past 2 weeks so please excuse any newb questions. I plan on investing 1 month and $1,500 in this follow along purely to gain experience in this field. The one month is just in terms of getting the initial experience as I view this as a long term investment and will not quit with AM. My goal is to get to XX /day.

Steps Taken:
Offers - Mobidea & BitterStrawberry
Traffic -Propeller & PopCash
Volume Tracker
AdPlexity

My first campaign launched Pin Submits for iPhone’s X and 8. I followed Vortex’s guide(for any fellow Newbies I’d highly recommend reading through her comment history). I figure these will be viable for a couple of months and have inherent marketability. The first one i launched was a direct link Sweep in Singapore with a payout of about a dollar. I just launched it today so don’t have any data back yet. Although I don’t really know how a campaign like this can be successful as i did nothing to separate my self. IE I’m sure there's been tons of people to direct link the campaign on Propeller Ads.

Questions

  1. For my next step I want to try Display. I already have an Adplexity account and have ripped 10 landers I like. I don’t know how to add the Landers and Banners to the process. Is it done on the Volume or on your Hosting website?
  2. My plan is to keep with the vertical of Sweeps while testing out different GEO’s and offer types. Is this a good idea or should I focus on one GEO at a time?
  3. Do you advise to start with direct linking a big group of offers and then creating a LP out of the best-performing ones?
  4. I’m having a hard time understanding how to target traffic. I got some good advise in a previous post to target specific states in the US for sweeps. Are you able to target states like this in propeller ads or should i use another source? Any infomration on how argeting or traffic sources work would be helpeful.

I’ll be working hard on gaining experience over the next month and will keep you all updated on the progress. Any feedback is greatly appreciated and i will do my best to add value with my next post.

Hi! First of all profuse apologies for the delay in replying - somehow your thread flew under my radar!

That's the right spirit! We'll provide help along the way, to the best of our ability. Thanks for starting this follow-along!

Answering newbie questions is my specialty - so bring 'em on!

Good budget for the first month, and finding your first XX/day camp by the first month is a possibility. Let's take it one step at a time and see what happens!

You are right - I agree with you.

It is definitely possible to make profits using direct-linking (fact!) but basically you'd need to be willing to test more offers and know how to optimize your campaign more efficiently than the next person.

Having said that - using landing pages would definitely add more room for improving your ROI.

But speaking in general, the situation with pop is that everybody is ripping from everybody else, because everybody is using spy tools like Adplexity nowadays. To make profits, you need to learn how to use spy tools more effectively to identify the gold (good offers+landers), test more offers and landers, test more bids, know when to stop running a campaign to conserve budget and when to continue, know how to cut placements/publisher sites, how to scale quickly to increase revenue to the point where you can negotiate pay bumps with your aff network...

And then, there are people that are cloaking to hide their campaign landers etc. from spy tools - that way they can come up with innovative landers without having them ripped and used by tons of other affiliates. But we're not at liberty to talk about cloaking (especially mods) so I'll stop myself here.

Generally speaking though, in pop most people are running similar things, which is why camps tend not to stay profitable for very long, and competition is quite fierce. This is why I recommend to expand away from pop once people have a bit of experience with how to set up tracking, and how to analyze stats and make optimization decisions based on them. FB for example would be a great traffic source to expand into - I've put down some of my thoughts regarding this in the post below:

You'd upload the banners to the traffic source when setting up a campaign there.

Which display source are you referring to?

My plan is to keep with the vertical of Sweeps while testing out different GEO’s and offer types. Is this a good idea or should I focus on one GEO at a time?
Good idea! And DO stick with tier 3/4 geos to start, because offer payouts tend to be lower, traffic costs tend to be cheaper due to the relatively lower competition (compared to tier 1/2 geos), which means less budget would be required to test stuff so you can learn the same lessons for cheaper.

No need to ask which geos belong to which tier - basically tier 1/2 geos are Developed Countries and tier 3/4 geos are Developing Countries.

Stick with geos in Asia, Africa (but stay away from South Africa!!), the Middle-East, and Latin America at the start.

Do you advise to start with direct linking a big group of offers and then creating a LP out of the best-performing ones?
On the surface this does seem like a good approach - run a quick test to find the gold first, then focus on the gold.

Except - there's one snag: Not all offers can convert when direct-linked. Some types of offers - like the sweeps offers you're looking to run - will typically only convert well when landers are used to pre-sell them. (Exception: Sweeps offers that have landers - or what aff networks and advertiser refer to as pre-landers - built-into the offer already, will stand a chance when direct-linked.)

So - I would recommend to start using landers from the start when promoting sweeps offers.

I’m having a hard time understanding how to target traffic. I got some good advise in a previous post to target specific states in the US for sweeps. Try Zeropark.

Looking forward - and once again, apologies for the late reply! Now that I've posted in this thread, I'll be notified whenever you update it - so hopefully these delay won't happen anymore!
