Paralysis By Analysis

Hey STMers

Its DanCnx here,

I posted up in the Questions forum over the weekend about my situation as a new Internet Marketer, looking to change career paths, and get out of Oild and Gas construction for sooo many reasons.

Check out the post here: https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...ight-direction

Initially, when I posted the above question in the forum, I stated that I am very interested in FB as a traffic source to learn, as I could also use these skills to do client work or revshare with the acquired skills that I would learn running traffic in facebook for affiliate campaigns.

Since posting, I have spent the past couple of days reading whatever I could get my hands on inside of STM on Facebook and I am possibly more confused, and definitely, cautions about getting involved in Facebook as my starting platform for AM. It looks like FB is a ban happy environment, with fewer verticles to promote than other traffic sources. Im sure that FB is a powerful traffic source to have in your tool box, but Im unsure if t=its the right move for someone new who's the main goal is the supplement his income in a short(ish) time period.

So, this brings me on to the main question of this post, where do I go from here? I have read that it's a good idea for new marketers to start in evergreen verticles that allow you to learn a couple of traffic sources and work on your marketing skills.

Would Adult be a good verticle to start with? and could I progress to promoting dating offers on FB once I getting more knowledgeable in this vertical?

Also can newbies make money in this niche? as this is the main goal of becoming a marketer.

Any suggestions and paths of learning would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and my last post, and I look forward to everyone's input, as I don't want to spend too long in the decision-making process and more time.

Kind regards

Dan Cnx

Let me answer your second question first, as it's the one with the most straightforward answer:

could I progress to promoting dating offers on FB once I getting more knowledgeable in this vertical?
No, almost certainly not. FB does not really allow dating offers any more: there are theoretically ways to do it, but they're very difficult (either get on the mysterious dating whitelist or cloak, neither of which are simple at all).

It's not completely impossible but it's not a route that I'd recommend relying on.

Would Adult be a good verticle to start with? Also can newbies make money in this niche?
Matuloo's our adult expert, and I'll ask him to comment here too. However, my understanding of the current state of the adult space is that it's very competitive, but it is possible to make money there.

Honestly I'd recommend FB rather than adult as a starting traffic source, but if you definitely want to go for adult - and I can see your argument about evergreen spaces - it's not impossible. Be prepared for the early stages to be pretty rough, though, and be prepared for a lot of relationship-building: getting your payouts bumped up is a major part of the adult game.

Hey Caurmen,

Thanks a million for chiming in on my question, I happy to hear that FB is still a possibility for newbies to enter into as a starting traffic source.

Honestly I'd recommend FB rather than adult as a starting traffic source

Do you have any suggestions for verticles and offers that would be a good learning curve, allowing me to learn the art of AM and FB marketing (a skill that I might be able to use further down the road as a client service).

For example, start with App installs, move into Gaming and then graduate to hair loss products (honestly, I have no idea or the natural progression)

I have looked into some of the posts and cookbooks about FB/Ecom, this stuff is really exciting but I think has to many moving parts to start with, when you start adding fulfillment and returns.

In saying this, I think I should stick with CPA or Lead Gen as an introduction to performance marketing before moving on to Ecom.

Any advice on getting started in FB, white hat style, links, blogs or training (can't afford istack at this point of time) would be greatly appreciated. Ive read a whole bunch of the posts on STM but i still kinda don't know where to start without getting banned and run out of town.

Once again, thanks for your help, I look forward to hearing Matuloo's ideas on what could work in either Adult or White Hat offer elsewhere.

You will be seeing more of my posts popping up in the follow-along as soon as I can choose the right taffic source and verticle to get involved in and focus on.

Im currently hanging out in a hotel room in Bangkok and my son is hassling me to play ROBLOX on the laptop, so im off for now. Peace ...

Kind Regards

Dan Cnx

Here I am, thanks for the notice Caurmen

Adult is viable area to start in, but as Caurmen already said, it's a competitive one ... but what isn't, right?

First of all, I've written a lot of articles about adult already ... so instead of writing the same stuff again, let me link something for you. Please read it if you didn't yet, it's a summary-like thread for anyone who want's to give adult a try : https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...here-you-start!

Adult is dominated by 2 main verticals now, at least when talking about affiliate marketing based on PAID traffic : Dating + Carrier Billing stuff ... dating is here to stay forever, I believe ... Carrier billing is losing some ground now, due to regulations, but there is so much money in it, that I expect some changes there pretty soon. Either of them can work still.

I can give you more tips and help you with your campaigns further, in case you decide to test adult, but there is no point in flooding you with more info at this point.

If I had to compare adult and facebook... FB gives you more options for the future ... client work, agency jobs, campaigns, ecomm ... while in adult, the variety is way lower. But then again, adult is a way less regulated space, it is more forgiving business area than FB. You can make money in both, mainstream has more scalability, FB has more obstacles to overcome. Many people also find adult distracting, you need to look at nude pics because of the creatives and some find it rather hard to concentrate because of that ... it's not a tragedy, you can get used to it and it's not like you need to do this all the time.

Both approaches have their pros and cons ... FB has more volume, higher profit potential and the acquired skills can serve as a great asset for the future ... but, it's easy to get banned there, there are strict rules to follow ... Adult on the other hand is a more relaxed environment, it's easier to start running there ... BUT the profit potential is lower and these skills are probably not something you will put on your CV in the future

Wicked,

Thanks, Matuloo you're a massive legend...

I was warned about your legendary status by Amy in my first-follow along.

Haha thanks! "The Legend" is matuloo's title but he's always humble and shy when we (the STM team) remind him of it. When you get a chance to interact with him either here on the forum or in person, address him by his title for me.
Vortex...

Initially, I was chatting to vortex about my interest in the Internet Marketing aspects of being an Affiliate, such as funnel, analytic and possible client work. Amy suggestion was to head towards FB marketing, which I am (was) all for, but there seems to be a lack of newby info out there plus a whole bunch of serious regulations to deals with.

Additionally, I have taken 6+ months off work, with the plan of learning a skill set / creating a business to create a living wage. So its currently a double-edged sword, I want to learn about FB marketing as it seems to have the most reach in growth and ability to create several career paths, on the downside I could lose all my time to chasing down banned accounts and trying to find out where to start with the lack of current newby information around.
Hopefully Caurmen can send me down the right FB rabbit hole.

On the flipside Adult looks like a decent option for all the pros that you have pointed out and could even be a good industry to learn in, chances are I will never get insanely rich of off this, but it could generate an income to cover my living ($500p/w), then allow me to learn other Internet Marketing traffic sources and skills, without having to return back to the oil fields and start over again.

I appreciate your offer to help me out along the way with my first campaigns, its very kind of you. I have already read a bunch of your posts on getting into the Adult space in 2017, I will now start digging a bit deeper into your other posts and some follow along's.

You have made some really useful points on the pros and cons of FB and Adult, now its really a case of some more research and then making a personal choice what path to take.

Kind Regards

Bloody hell, they'll never stop making fun of me ... don't even remember who came up with "the Legend" remark anymore, but it's following me like a curse

But back to adult : not sure if you can get insanely rich in it, but you can certainly make nice amounts of cash there, $500 per week is under $100 per day and that's quite easy to achieve, once you crack the code ... which basically is just testing offers, banners, LPs and focusing on lead quality (in case of dating).

FB is a different beast, but it's where millionaires are made these days ... tough nut to crack but with very high possible rewards.

Hey Dan! Matuloo has given you plenty of useful tips - and will no doubt continue to if you do decide to go into adult. You may also find this old post of mine useful - it's old, but not outdated, as it contains tips that can help you to avoid the worst competition:

https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...l=1#post259000

(Good job on calling Matuloo by his rightful and appropriate title! But I think we can stop now - he's the expert on adult traffic so we won't want to discourage him from visiting this thread ever again haha!)
