Just a question to ask everyone who's running traffic
Do you find that there are generally more bots in Tier1 geos? Maybe because the CPM is higher, so the Traffic Sources make more money off sending us bots?
I've been in this space for a long time and I generally find that Tier1 has more, but that's just my opinion... so I'd liketo hear the views of everyone

I've observed similar.
It's no surprise, because tier 1 geos usually have more pubs, and the more pubs there are, the more likely for more of them to engage in shady practices.
And yeah the fact that people can make more money due to the higher CPM makes sense, and it's not just the traffic sources.

Of course.
Bots are a business too, unfortunately, and like affiliates, will go to the highest payouts.

I've been spending quite a lot of time myself testing methods on how to detect them - the end result: Not worth spending much time chasing ghosts!
Since most of the ones we deal with are quite dummy (regardless of the Tier we're running), a placement will be either good or bad. I think our best bet is to at least avoid them from clicking our landers, so that it won't screw our optimization process.

This is the biggest problem in my eyes too ... I can pause a poor placement easily, whether it's just wrong match for my offers or bot poluted crap hole ... but the fact that bots screw up the optimization process, offer rotation, lander rotation ... that's what's royally getting on my nerves.

It looks like calling a JavaScript function on our CTA helps avoiding major of non java capable bots. The CTR can drop like 50% but at least we can optimize on realistic data seeking green ROI.
