Don't be afraid to ask! (18)

Don't be afraid to ask!

I had a few people ask me questions on AIM because they wanted to keep their private or they thought their question was silly.

1. If you want to keep something private just PM one of us and we will give you advice. That's what we are here for!

2. No questions are silly questions. Everyone has something to learn.

#2 is a major one, a lot of the time someone will ask something they think is stupid, when 10 others are secretly wondering the same question.

I will agree with what you both said, dont be scared to discuss anything in the forum as that question will probably solve 20 others.

Ok this is a question that's been bothering me for a while now... In terms of using a CDN to serve images to my local country and/or countries outside of where my server is located (U.S. server, amazon S3 + cloudfront cdn in my case), I read a post by bbrock32 here where he stated that content hosted locally on his (powerful!) server out-performed CDN hosted content due to the extra http call required to resolve the cdn host. However, my server isn't a high-end dedi, it's a p202 optimized VPS from BeyondHosting.net & I'm specifically wondering if Multiple http calls to the same outside source (cloudfront edge server) would all be handled as seperate http calls. For example, say my lander has 5 image files all propagated thru cloudfront, would the user's browser have to make 5 separate calls or would their local system cache the dns info (or whatever) from the FIRST cloudfront http request & only have to resolve the host ONCE to d/l all 5 images? I ask because most of my landers use multiple images, and s3 bandwidth is cheap! (All my 'img src=' tags point to 'http://s3-whatever')

Yep , the user's pc does a DNS request only the first time and then saves the ip to the cache.
So the remaining 4 requests are made much faster.
If you don't have a powerful dedi using a CDN is the best move.

Awesome, I've been wondering about this for months lol! Cheers for clearing it up bbrock!
Now i've got just one more question...
Using a vps, what kinda file size is appropriate for cpv traffic? Using mainly LeadImpact atm I try to keep my overall lander size to about 30-35 kB or less (including both images & the html file itself). Is there an overall file-size limit you look for when building a lander for a specific traffic source?

05-22-2011 10:48 PM #8 bbrock32 (Administrator)

Nah , I dont have any fixed rules for this.

I try to keep it below 100kb but that can't be always achieved.

If it loads reasonably fast from your pc than it's good to go.

Mr.Green,

New to the game and I've chosen FB to promote some offers and got a few questions.

(Caution: extremely noob)

I'm actually promoting "deals" offer on FB...following (I believe) Stackman thread that's posted in here.

1) How long will it take to get my campaign reviewed by FB? 12hrs? 24hrs?

2) Is direct linking to offer allowed on FB?

3) Payout is $1.20, what is a good "cut your losses" point for an offer with a low payout as this? 25x? 50x? 100x?

4) Do you track (ex:Tracking202) your campaign on FB or is their report efficient enough?

Once again sorry for the noobish question...

Thanks in advance!

Hi Punkcash!

1) How long will it take to get my campaign reviewed by FB? A few hours usually, depends on the time of the day and the day.

2) Is direct linking to offer allowed on FB? Yes

3) Payout is $1.20, what is a good "cut your losses" point for an offer with a low payout as this? If you aren't picking up any traction after $25 you can cut your losses. You don't need to profiting you just need to be close to profiting.

4) Do you track (ex:Tracking202) your campaign on FB or is their report efficient enough? Yes T202 is great.

P.S. in future please create a new thread for new question topics

I'm nor Mr. Green but I will answer your questions for you

1) How long will it take to get my campaign reviewed by FB? 12hrs? 24hrs?
A: If its your first campaign on the account then it will take about 24 hours. Over weekends its usually much slower. Once you've had a campaign approved it can take anything from 10 minutes to a couple of hours. In foreign countries it can be much slower. Main English speaking countries like US, CAN, UK, AUS usually quite quick.

2) Is direct linking to offer allowed on FB?
A: Yes, its allowed but it depends on what you are linking to. You need to read through their guidelines. Although its a full of BS it will give you a good idea of what's allowed. Generally anything shady is not allowed - ie email submits. Also, be careful with geo-redirects if you do CPA offers because reviewers aren't always in the US and the offer will redirect.

3) Payout is $1.20, what is a good "cut your losses" point for an offer with a low payout as this? 25x? 50x? 100x?
A: I'd say that you need to look at conversions. Look at them on "ad level" and as soon as an add spends more than 2x the payout you can safely cut it. Low paying offers like that can be though to make profitable in but it can be done.

4) Do you track (ex:Tracking202) your campaign on FB or is their report efficient enough?
A: As far as I know acebook do not allow Tracking202 URL's anymore because affiliates abused them so much. I might be wrong. However, its a good tracking platform and you should install the self hosted version - Prosper202 on your own server and track with that. You can also use the Bevo tracker or CPV Lab but I have no experience with them.

Don't be sorry for asking. These are perfectly good questions

Haha seems we answered at the same time.

Deondup answers out did mine, they are more in depth (damn you!).

Deondup is right about T202 I just assumed you meant prosper202. Prosper202 is really easy to install and there are great tutorial videos on how to work with it.

Depends on your source. If it's adult, I'd say the question is google

If it's FB / POF etc, try thechive, try sites like hotornot / picture voting sites. You should find a lot images on those kind of sites without any bigger problems.
