How Trumps Sabotaging of Obamacare Will Make You Rich Before Christmas

Hey Gang, Gene Here. I am in the process of working through Open Enrollment for 2018 for my own internal media buying team, my Pay Per Call Blueprint Students and for my publishers over at Palo Media Group.

Figured, why not post something useful in STM for once? Anyway, just some ramblings that can help you make big money before Christmas.

First, let's back-track a little.

There's a killer, evergreen health insurance pay per call offer, that gets a bunch of attention once a year, during the Fall and Winter Months, called open enrollment season.

This offer helps people sign up for healthcare in the US, typically pays out $20-$30 for any phone call lead lasting longer than 120 Seconds.

It can easily become one of these "shooting fish in a barrel" kinds of things if you know your traffic source well and have experience.

However, there's some crazy stuff going on this year with your boy Trump.

Will we see Big VOLUME this year?

I was extremely pessimistic a day or so ago, and then after some interviews, and some pondering, I began seeing a clearer picture of what might really happen.

You know the American healthcare system is a huge mess, right?

Also, all Americans are required by law to have health insurance, or there's a nasty financial penalty. That was the affordable care act/Obamacare thing.

Oh, and let's rub some salt into that wound shall we? Health insurance is ridiculously expensive (don't tell anyone, but we are in a healthcare bubble).

Some families have monthly home mortgage payments cheaper than their healthcare insurance bill. Ouch, not sustainable!

And one more dumb thing.

Our fearless leaders have made sure that signing up or changing a policy can only happen during one special time each year.

We call this special moment "open enrollment season".

Under the Trump Administration, Americans literally have 45 days to find cheaper/new health care. It used to be something like 3 months, and now it's 45 days.

Americans in the know, will be scrambling to find cheaper healthcare insurance and given the limited time frame, I'm expecting there will be a huge traffic surge for 45 days, starting November 1st.

Official Marketplace Dates and Deadlines. HealthCare.gov.
Open Enrollment for 2018 runs November 1 - December 15, 2017.

Here's where you, the marketer come in.

Most people need to negotiate this complicated disaster over the phone.

Sounds like a ripe opportunity for Pay Per Call. Am I right?

Palo Media Group will have a larger than normal supply of open enrollment buyers this year. We are banking on my theory that shit will hit the fan at the State level and consumers will have to rely on private underwriters (our offers) to find affordable healthcare.

More on that in the next thread.

Normally, These kinds of pay per call campaigns can be real whoppers if you are dialed in. Last year it wasn't so great. But the year before that? GOLD RUSH!!

Now that you are up to speed on what Open Enrollment is, let's talk about your boy Trump and how he's sabotaging the affordable care act, also known as Obamacare, and how it could make you a ton of money and give you the best freaking Christmas you've ever had.

BTW, Let me know if you want to test open enrollment. Looking for qualified pay per call marketers only or guys running high quality traffic. None of that pop-up shit.

My next post will describe the current OE landscape.

The Current OE 2018 Landscape

There’s a bunch of crazy stuff going on at the federal level and I want to provide as much clarity as possible on how this will effect open enrollment for pay per call marketers (again, through my own filter).

My next post will cover Palo's current offers. There's more to an offer than just payout and duration. It helps to have good buyers, many of them. I'll reveal what's going on, on the network side, so you don't waste your traffic money on crummy offers.

Finally, I’ll share the strategy that Dan and I plan on using (Dan is my business partner and a fellow media buyer who specializes in financial offers) in the next thread.

Sound good? Okay, lets dive in.

Disclaimer: This is my own interpretation. If you see something wrong, then please let me know. I'll fix.

Broken systems, like American health Insurance, will always be overly-complicated, because, well, they’re broken. As a result, navigating a disaster like American Healthcare requires two human beings talking on the phone.

The Current Open Enrollment Landscape

Alrighty, so TRUMP and the GOP hate the affordable care act, also known as Obamacare, which basically makes health insurance mandatory for everyone.

The Trump administration also appears to be responsible for providing operating budgets to each State. Your boy Trump is withholding budgets and meaningful communication to the States.

In other words, The TRUMP administration and the GOP are sabotaging Obamacare.

See, the States use this budget money for operating costs, like branding and fielding call centers.

Does ZERO State budget mean no branding, or call centers fielding calls?

Ya, probably. Which got me concerned, so I got on the phone with Anthony (The Boss at Palo) and asked him to break it down for me and this is what he said.

The big issue with the current administrations budget cuts are a decreased lack of social awareness. The branding this year will fall flat. We won’t hear or see as many commercials, like we have in the past. We might not see as much STATE support.

This is good if you are a PALO Pay Per Call affiliate because we will fill that gap.

Give a good pay per call publisher:

And you have a winner my man! Get those turkey's on the phone, will ya? There's money to be made here.

Health insurance is still required by law, and there are plenty of pissed off parents, working hard to find cheaper insurance, that’s for sure.

So the way I look at it is this, either the States or the Insurance companies themselves will have to fill the TRUMP void as best as there can or fail.

I’m unclear how this will pan out, as most States are praying that budgets get released.

Either way, I don’t think a lack of commercials will kill our success here.

If anything, limited state support means the American Health Insurance Shopper will have to rely heavily on your ability to redirect them to a qualified underwriter (our offers).

Does this make sense? LIMITED STATE SUPPORT MEANS MORE MARKET SHARE FOR AFFILIATES!

County level stuff is another layer that I need to address.

Again, health insurance premiums are skyrocketing and pissed off moms and dads are forced to shop for new health insurance. They don’t need a commercial to remind them they are paying two mortgage payments every month.

Also, some insurance companies have had fall-outs and are completely abandoning some counties because the cost of doing business is too high. This also forces families and individuals to shop for health insurance, whether they want to or not.

In the next thread I'm going to break down the current offers over at Palo. The guys are working hard to stack the deck in your favor. Last year we learned a lot. This year, no more mistakes (at least the dumb ones).

Sounds like an opportunity for sure ... we have a similar thing in my country with "Car insurance", the Open Enrollment season is rather short too and everyone goes crazy during that period of the year. Thanks for the tip.

Interesting.

Using events/issues that will get a lot of media attention regardless of "our" industry is a smart thing to do.
Users will already be aware of the need/opportunity to signup/change their policy and in this one, as Matuloo said, also has the urgency factor (and possibly fear).

Duration: Call converts at 90 - 120 seconds connected duration following a KEYPRESS 1

Caller Types Accepted: Any Caller Looking to Enroll in Medicare

This is an evergreen offer (it's running all year round) since people are constantly turning 65 and are always trying to enroll into medicare. October 15th kicks off the period is also known as Medicare Fall Open Enrollment and the Annual Election Period. During this time, Medicare beneficiaries can add, change, or drop Medicare health plans and/or prescription drug coverage for the following year (effective January 1).

I see a lot of publishers running the high volume keyword medicare, broad, inside their adwords call-only campaigns. This is a poor quality/good conversion approach (it sucks for the buyers but usually keeps a campaign alive for the publisher).

This campaign is easy to spot on the network and it will get everyones attention fast. So be vigilant on your optimization. If your traffic source allows it, only target callers age 65 or older. Check out the audience tab, campaign level, inside adwords. If you don't see it let me know.

Also very important. If you run medicare broad, then make sure to throttle back your daily spend on this ad group and blend that traffic with your higher quality keywords so you don't get penalized with an extra IVR or told to pause because all your calls are people looking for the medicare office, or need a new card, or their trying to talk to customer service. This is not our target market. We want new enrollments, and folks looking to buy supplement insurance (Medicare A,B,C,D plans).

Conversions are EASY but.....

Enrolling into Medicare health insurance is complicated enough. Now slap a 65+ year old senior citizen on the line phone. The Call center reps must have the patience of a saint.

Point being, it's pretty easy to get over the 90-120 call duration hurdle before the call center even realizes the caller is looking for medicare customer service, which is not congruent with the offer, is considered low intent, yet still triggers a payout.

The responsible thing to do as a network to remedy this problem would be to raise the payout duration to 3-5 minutes so the call center rep can qualify the call, however.

Nobody would run a campaign that pays out $18-$25 on a 3+ minute duration. So we have to lower the duration to keep the campaign competitive and enticing to pubs.

So you and I just need to be responsible business partners and work together to make your campaign profitable and the buyers happy, so we can run this thing forever.

I think the big take away is this:

1. You need to be super vigilant with your negative keywords.
2. Get rid of the customer service stuff, the claims stuff, the people who are looking for a medicare office or need to get a new medicare card.
3. Target callers over 65.
4. Provide clarity and meaningful specifics in your ad copy. There's plenty of traffic. You do not need to be vague to get clicks and calls.

People looking for Medicare Supplemental plans (A,B,C,D) are much higher quality, yet the keyword phrases are more expensive. So having a blend of high volume, broad medicare traffic and callers looking for medicare supplemental help is the way to go.

Most consumers searching online during the open enrollment period are trying to find a more affordable plan and/or health insurance that offers better overall coverage. As such, the details are important to these consumers. However, the vast majority feel overwhelmed by the verbiage typically included in health insurance plans. Readers don't want to hear all the insurance-based language that tells them about possible coverage options. They want to know, in simple terms, why this plan is better for them than the one they currently use.

It's important that you create online content that is easy for the reader to understand. From blog posts to content on your landing pages, avoid going into too much detail. Too many complex details will only confuse the reader. If you want to generate more traffic and get more phone calls, make it easy for the reader to gather basic details and then use a strong CTA to entice them to call for greater details.
