So, I've started with Lesson 1:
1. Have launched 12 direct-linking camps, per Lesson 1.
2. Have zero conversions, but cut all camps at 5x payout.
Does anyone know the answer to these questions?
* What's the point of
* With 12 camps and 0 conversions, would you recommend running more direct-linking camps with different affiliate networks, or try a different strategy?
Thank you for your help and advice!
Hey,
Aside from tracking certain parameters, in much more detail as well,
You can send users to different landing pages and offers based on certain characteristics - that's something you cannot do with direct linking.
It also makes it much easier add landing pages and track them properly.
When it comes to campaigns and conversions - can you give details of vertical, payouts, amount spent total and, very important for this stage, what how spread out the spend was among placements.
The last point is because you might have had one bad placement canibalizing all your money and you never got to really test the whole traffic.
Cheers,
Manu.
You're right - for direct-linking to offers, you can just post conversions back to the traffic source, and skip
But then you won't be able to drill down by OS or device or browser for example, to eliminate worse-performing segments.
And you won't be able to rotate multiple offers (and landers once you start using them) at the same time.
Regarding your 12 camps:
Direct-linking is a good way for newbies to start running paid traffic camps, because the setup is so easy.
This method still works! But you'll need to be willing to test lots of offers, not just 12.
I AM worried though - 12 offers without one single conversion does sound strange. If you like, post some screenshots of how you've set up your camps, and I'll verify the setup for you. I want to make sure everything's working so that you don't keep running offer after offer thinking they're all duds, when there's a problem with your tracking setup.
And don't limit yourself to
Matuloo suggested doing a bot test - he probably isn't aware that you're running carrier traffic (because you didn't mention it - I know because I wrote the tutorial). Carrier traffic doesn't tend to have a lot of bot traffic. But if you decide to expand into wifi traffic one day, then doing a bot test would be good.
Once you're comfortable with setting up campaigns, add landers into your setup (probably not with carrier-billing offers though). I'm about to write further lessons on how to work with landers, but please don't wait around for those - read a few follow-along threads on pop traffic and you'll have a good idea on what to do.
And of course, now that you have a follow-along yourself, you can ask all the questions you have right here!
You got 3 mods helping you at the same time - that doesn't happen very often. You're special.
Keep plugging away and you'll get there!

Thank you everyone for your quick reply and help. I've answered (I think) every question below, as well as posted screenshots.
Can you give details of vertical
-----> videos and games
payouts
-----> always under $1, in tier 3 gets
amount spent total
-----> $56.39 spent total.
-----> Have been pausing at 5x spend on each camp, which is why cost is so low.
and, very important for this stage, what how spread out the spend was among placements.
-----> I'm clicking the "distributed" option, so in theory it should be spread out.
-----> But I doubt it is, though. I typically will launch between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the targeted geo time.
-----> 5x is typically spent within one - two hours.
whether there is 1 or limited amount of placements that ate your budget. You can also run a bot test.
-----> Perhaps this is possible. I don't have a lot of experience to make a guess, but I am spreading this across a wide range of geos, so it seems unlikely that one placement is eating everything.
But the problem might be just in the absence of landing pages, it's quite hard to convert anything without them, especially with POP traffic
-----> That might be it, too.
post some screenshots of how you've set up your camps, and I'll verify the setup for you.
-----> Screenshots posted below. Is that what you're referencing?
And don't limit yourself to Mobidea. They have the best user interface which was why I chose their network for my tutorial, but they're not the only network that has good carrier-billing offers. Try Kimia for example.
-----> Sounds good; I'll look into them. I also have registered with Affiliaxe and Adsimilis too.

I'm very fortunate. STM Forum has been phenomenal in terms of support. Thank you!

Based on your answers and screenshots, everything looks fine.
Basically: Test more offers!
I know the first conversion can be tricky to get - it has to do with a snag in your energy because it's hard to expect something to happen when it has never happened to you. And this unfortunate streak of 12 camps without a single conversion really doesn't help, does it?
Here's what I would prescribe: Pick some offers that are in tier 3/4 geos, that have REALLY low payouts - like in the $0.03-$0.10 range. Yes I'm still referring to 1/2-click offers. They don't even have to be gaming or video subscription offers. You can spend up to 10x payout on each even, without breaking the bank. Test a few of those and there's no way you won't get conversions. If you STILL don't, then we'll have to take a closer look at your setup - something may be seriously wrong.
Do let us know how you get on!

Yup, all looks good ... the only thing I would do differently would be to focus on just 1 GEO and try to get going there first - same budget spent on one GEO instead of 7, would give you a better chance of finding something and getting a better idea about the placements. And of course, try to introduce some LPs. Testing really low paying offers as vortex suggested would be a good idea too, those should convert very easy and you could at least verify your setup and have some data to play with.
If you need any help with the registration process @ Kimia, just let me know. It looks like STMers have painted a clear picture why a tracker is needed, like
