Question about bidding

Hello. I’ve been reading for the last weeks many things about bidding on campaigns, and there are a lot of things to learn. Obviously it’s an entire field to study, most of all when you have optimize campaigns.

What I want to ask is what's the best approach when starting a new campaign? I’ve read in other threads and forums many different things about this subject. For example, in the first step tutorial for newbies the bid starts at $2.33. In fact, many people advice to start with a high bid to get quality traffic. On the other hand there are experts saying you have to start low ($0.001 for example) and increase the bid slowly.

I suppose this has something to do with the strategy you use on your campaigns. Each person will have a different way to create campaigns and maybe it works fine whether you start high or low. Today I’m going to start a new campaign with an offer that has a payout of $12. It’s for a tier 1 country (yes, I know it’s competitive) but I’m not sure what bid to start with. Should I start low to test the offer? Let’s say for example $0.005. Should I start higher to get better traffic and be over the competition? Is there a procedure to do this when you are starting a campaign? Thank you.

Hey!

Your bidding strategy will depend a lot on

1. Your budget
2. Your targeting
3. The source and type of the traffic you are trying to get

So, if you have limited amount of money that you are thinking to spend on tests, I would say you should start low and increase the bid step by step.
Also for tier 1 country I wouldn't put 0.005 as it's too low.
Normally we start at 1.

There is another strategy - that you can start aggressively, run campaign and decrease the bid, until you see changes in the % of traffic you've got.

So it's up to you always Both strategies can be successful if implemented well!

Thank you Mobidea. In this case I’m going to start with pop traffic (Popads, propeller and maybe some new traffic sources that seem to be good). I suppose I’ll have to test, test and test.
