Being this my first day at STM, I've decided what better way to get into the forum than to drop some tips. So here I go:
We all know that lately Facebook has been going crazy in terms of disabling accounts for "Suspicious Payment Activity". As a result, many of us have to constantly request new cards from our banks; which means wasting time waiting, as well as frustration.
Easy solution: Get a Credit Card from Bank of America. BOA offers a protection service for online purchases, this service consists of the card holder being able to generate Virtual Credit Cards instantly. You can assign a spending limit on the card, as well as the expiration date. At any moment, you can increase/decrease the spend, same for the expiration date. You may also delete the card at any moment, so no more charges will ever go through.
BOA allows you to have 40 active VCC at the same time. Need to generate more? Apply for another card, or delete the VCC's you don't need.
All charges on your VCC will show up on your actual credit card.
Now, whenever you want to get busy opening up new accounts, forget about getting cards from your bank when you can have a new one instantly. Considering that Facebook only matches the state and zip code of the card holder, it becomes very easy to get several accounts running.
Enjoy!
Thanks for the tip. Can you change the name on the VCCs or they are all under the original name? I need a solution for Google.
It doesn't matter what name you put down on the billing info, it will still process. The only info that needs to be correct is your zip code and street number.
BOA is great....I haven't used the VCC's I do use them for other things....as you can get additional cards from them pretty easy
Corp, is that your experience w Facebook or works anywhere/with Google too?
VCC's are life savers!
Works anywhere, from my experience.
This works on google as well
For those of you experienced in doing this: How do you handle it for tax purposes? My understanding in talking to a rep at BOA is that their VCC product is only available for personal accounts, not for business accounts. So how do you route your business expenditures to it? Do you simply have your business reimburse you?
I know some people with business accounts simply request employee credit cards. There may be a way to virtualize those.
Do you still get all the credit card points doing this?
I <3 free flight upgrades.
TD bank also has visa debit cards, and although they will issue you one with your account, they will reissue a new one to replace a "lost" one immediately if you walk in to your local branch. (new cc # and card)
most other banks ive dealt with make you wait for a new one to arrive in the mail. TD will give it to you if you walk in
I must be really forgetful, since ive seemed to "lose" so many this year lol
not sure how facebook handles them since im not big on facebook, but i assume they ought to accept them
Man you US'ers have it so easy :P
Anyone know off hand if any banks in the UK have this service?
How about international affiliate especially malaysia ?
Haha, anyone in Canada knows a bank that can do this?
I love how nobody actually tried this on facebook. Like seriously, when's the last time you made an account?
Any idea of Canadians can get this credit card?
Otherwise i have a TD bank account and I've requested new CC's before, but that's about the only real tactic i know here.
I never tried this because I was under the impression facebook caught on to the shopsafe card method.. I hope they didn't. Signed up for a BoA account regardless, still another card to use.
Trying to decide which type of credit card I should get.
Air miles or points/cashback?
What do you guys thinK?
Amex Gold Business card pays back 2% on advertising spend... can't get VCCs tho. You can create employee cards tho but may require SSN.
Sweet. Shop Safe works nice and good. Just gotta raise the CC limit.
Any similar solution for Australians or Australians living in Canada? BOA's are a fairytale for me
I've also used Green Dot pre-paid cards with Google AdWords. You can assign a Green Dot card with an Earth Class Mail box as your billing address.
