Anybody have a methodical way in which they go about determining geographic regions where an offer performs best?
For instance, I'm encountering situations where an offer may convert great in the Pacific region of the US but very poorly in the Midwest and Northeast. I'm new to Facebook (and affiliate marketing in general) but I took one of my campaigns from 10% to 50-80% ROI just by changing the geographic targeting.
I thought at first that this was perhaps tied to timezone, but I have enough data now to say that the offer seems to perform better in certain regions independent of the time factor.
As a hypothetical example, let's say my offer is $100 off a pair of ice skates. For obvious reasons, this is likely to convert better in Toronto than in Guadalajara, but what about offers where the correlation to geography may exist but is not so obvious?
How are you guys figuring out which geographic pockets will perform best? Do you start off targeting broadly and then examine the data to see which regions convert/click the most? Target by timezone? Target by the big "regions" (Midwest, Northeast, etc...)? Are there tools I could be using to sift through my click and conversion data to find these geographic pockets where an offer performs the best?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
A+ for advanced targeting.....like anything else is all about how deep you want to go.....I would focus on the large DMA's....or break it into rural vs urban......
its just about cutting things into sections......create lists with the biggest states in each geo area....eg...north east... Midwest...south and west....ie..there is no point in testing Montana(btw I love Montana lived there for 8yrs but the deer outnumber the people 3-1)...but Washington state it def worthy.....
Yeah man I go broad, then break it down. However when I do break it down I start calling down the region on my ads and on my lander if I'm using one. Dating & insurance offers have big differences between region.
I don't know of any tools for this. But, when I break down to states I usually pick the top 5 in terms of population, then based on how they perform, I will hit surrounding states.
