Multiple Site Banner Burnout Strategy (7)

Multiple Site Banner Burnout Strategy

So lets say you have a campaign going that is doing fairly well and you are already running it on multiple spots (lets say 20 for this example).

As we know eventually banner burnout will kick in, but how do we keep the party going?

I know we should always be testing new banners, so would this be a viable strategy:

- Use 1 mid-high volume site to test new banners
- Deploy what works on the above site to other 19 sites

So essentially we would have 1 site where we are just constantly testing and then once banner burnout starts kicking in we take the best creatives from the test site and just post it to the other 19 sites?

Hopefully that makes sense.

Also in general how often are we replacing banners? (I know it's a vague question, but a ballpark would be appreciated).

Thank you

Having a go-to spot(s) to test banners on, is a good idea, just keep in mind that every site has different demographics ... so what works on one site, doesn't have to work on another one. That's why it's always recommended to have multiple banners to replace the burned out ones - chances are, at least some of them will stick.

I'm using a similar strategy, but I'm not testing on just one spot, but multiple ones across several traffic sources.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to tell you how often you need to swap banners ... I literally have some running for months already, but some die after 3 days.

A tip for you : save the burned out banners somewhere, many of them are re-usable after a few months

This is a big problem, I am facing it all the time too ... hitting a profitable campaign is not a big problem, but they tend to die sooo fast. But it's not actually a problem of burnout, it's just that the banners or the whole funnel isn't good enough. Once you hit a really good one, it will last for a longer time. But I'm sure you're already learned that yourself too.

One last question if you don't mind Matuloo

Say you have a angle/banner that's working and then finally banner burnout kicks in and that "winning banner" dies out. At this point would it be a good idea to just change the image/design (keep same angle) and keep riding it out?

I've noticed that when you find that winning angle, it's hard to swap a new angle in and keep things profitable. So essentially would the strategy be just to try to make as many banner variations keeping the same angle and hopefully things stay profitable?

Thanks in advance.

I don't mind at all, keep em coming

Assuming that the banner really was a winner, the angle certainly played a significant role ... changing the image would be the first logical step to take, I'd do the same.

You will rarely have a winning banner, where the success would be caused entirely by the image... it's pretty much always a combination of both the angle and the image. Even though I personally believe that the image is more important, the angle still plays a significant role.

Creating many variations is a good strategy, just keep one thing in mind, the angle can burn out too, so in some cases it's the angle that you need to swap, not the image. Truth to be told, images tend to burnout faster though.

Hey matuloo when you say "angle" in regards to adult banners what do you mean?

Like is an angle the type of content(ie. older women, interracial, BDSM etc) or is it the type of image(ie. BJs, doggy style, chicks fingering themselves...)

It kinda feels like with adult you can only get so creative with angles, especially on those smaller 300x100 banners. I also think it differs based on the offer like adult dating vs video-on-demand but I haven't really figured out what constitutes an angle in adult.
