Hi All,
I have been scrolling through STM for some time now and although I have found lots of useful tips I still haven't found the answers I am looking for.
I own (work for a company that owns) a variety of sweeps offers and we offer these out to lots of affiliates, our business model relies on all of you wonderful affiliates to drive traffic to our sites. What if I could set something up myself and actually drive traffic to our own pages in the same way that you genius like characters can do it.
I have tried wwwPromoter, ZeroPark, AdWords and also Facebook and have yet to get result even close to those that we see when working with professional affiliates. Hats off to you guys!
I am sure there are some simple tricks here I could use to really get things performing better but I just can't seem to crack it. Any tips that anyone can offer would be hugely appreciated. If you want to take it a step further we can also look to compensate for advice/lessons etc.
On a separate note, if there are any affiliates that specialize in sweeps and would like to run traffic to our offers then please let me know.
Hopefully hear from you soon!
Cheers!
Hey David,
Great seeing you here! There's nothing really stopping you from being able to do the same but most affiliates built relationships with traffic sources and they are very focused on efficiency, since they don't have own the products they are promoting, and the margins can get quite small after taking all the costs into account.
The differences between ZeroPark and Facebook are also huge.
At first thought, it sounds like you would be doing well to put yourself 100% in the affiliates' shoes - and that means a lot of failed tests til you get things working. You also have to keep in mind that affiliates don't run only your offers, they will always look for the absolute best offers, and switch traffic instantly.
Do you have any affiliate experience, either yourself or your team?
Cheers,
Manu.
PS: If I'm not mistaken, you are the same David I met in Bangkok, at Fabrice's recommendation, right?
Hey Manu!
Great seeing you here too and thanks for replying!
Yes, thats me, we met at Bangkok, hows everything going?
I don't have much experience at all as an affiliate, just the work I have done to drive traffic to our sites. (which I have tried numerous times to no avail).
I have to say that the one thing that trips me up is that I can quite easily generate a conversion that would trigger a payout for far less than I would pay an affiliate. When I do this though, I can't monetise the traffic and the users just leaves after converting. Conversely, if I can get a high return from a user that I generate, it costs me far more to actually generate that user. Very difficult this sort of thing but hugely interesting.
Hoping to do more and more of this sort of thing moving forwards, and always happy to give things a try. Any suggestions are always appreciated.
Are you heading to any of the up coming conferences this year?
Cheers
David
Will be at Affiliate World Europe in a few weeks. Then also extremely likely to be at Affiliate World Asia. Not sure in between yet.
Regarding payout vs traffic quality, it's always tricky there, but balancing that should be your specialty. For the affiliate, you usually keep the payout flat until you see their traffic, and then adjust up or down. You should do the same for your own traffic, in theory. And then keep running traffic that is profitable for you.
You basically want to replicate the many affiliates into your campaigns. That means not all will be the same quality, far from it.
Is your tracking properly setup for all the different traffic sources? If you can generate conversions already, it's generally not rocket science to segment that traffic and stop whatever is not profitable, while keeping the rest
Can you perhaps explain more exactly what you've tried? Also, I'm personally not well aware how you monetize those leads and how their value changes, might also be useful if you can explain a bit there, without giving away company secrets.
Cool, hopefully I manage to get across to Berlin, I'll let you know if I am and we can grab a pint.
We do add in various ID's into the tracking to see which works best but there is so many variables, and our platform is also used for all of our affiliates as well as some internal offers so it perhaps gets a bit confusing.
The main way we generate our revenue is through a Co-Reg path after the sign up. So we actually pay for the sign up before we make a return. Targeting users that are likely to continue in the path seems to be the tricky part. Generally we payout around £1.20 - £1.50 for a new user to an affiliate. I was able to get this cost down to around £0.60 using AdWords. The problem I had is that the traffic never made any revenue for us. People would simply sign up and then leave the site without completing any offers.
I guess my struggle is, how do you find a user that is likely to continue down a co-reg path? I haven't come across this as a targeting tool through any platforms yet! Haha :-)
Through Zeropark we generated almost no users although we spend around $300 - $400. A big one I think is pre landers and I managed to find a download on here so I will try and use them, rather than driving directly to the sign up page.
If I get this right, your best course of action is to put yourself in an affiliates' shoes for a couple of weeks.
This means 2 main things from what I see.
1. Sign up to AdPlexity to spy on redirect and pop-up traffic (ZeroPark almost no users is a really bad result imo).
2. Sign up to
For AdWords and/or Facebook I don't have much advice, but there are certainly ways to make leadgen work there. I will ask a few others to have a look at this thread, maybe someone can give better input.
Thanks Manu,
I'll have a look at AdPlexity, I tried What Runs Where but didn't seem to get too much from it, and I'm not 100% sure its accurate. Some good tips there, I will definitely give this a try.
Thanks for your help, and if you would be kind enough to ask around I would be very grateful.
Hopefully catch up with you soon, I'll keep you updated about any conferences I am attending!
what countries do you have sweeps for? we might be interested
We run UK sweeps, would be great if you can drive traffic. My Skype is david.cartwright.digitalbox, please feel free to add so we can more easily.
Thanks
David
