How many copy / image variations should I create for my first mobile campaign? (6)

How many copy / image variations should I create for my first mobile campaign?

I'm working through the mobile appetiser, have created two ads so far, and understand I should create eight. But should I make them all consistent to reduce the number of testing variables? For example, should all 8 be the same headlines, with different images on each one? Or should I do eight different headlines with eight different images? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Hello elem99.

You need to decide what you want to find out.

In case you want to test one particular angle - you should create several banner variations by using the same angle, but different layout for each of them.

If you want to test multiple angles, you need to create several banners with different angles each - and to make sure the layout doesn't influence the results of this test, you should keep the same layout for all banners.

In case you have no idea about what could work at all - you need to cast a wider net and make very different banners - different angles, different layouts ... and see whether one of them stands out in some way. Then you can make variations for the ones that showed best results.

Since you're starting out, and probably don't know what can work, I would suggest to start testing pretty wide - at least different angle for every banner.

Thank you, matuloo - that's very helpful. Appreciate it and I'll cast a wide net to start.

Hey elem99,

Have you found your best angle yet? If not, I suggest you test that out first. Then you create variations of headlines from your winning angle in your next round of testing. Split test images after that.

For angles, you can follow LifeForce 8 strategy to come up with creative angles and incorporate these factors into your ads. Works for me everytime! You can do this if you don't have any idea at all on what's working. You can use 1 banner for each angle that you can come up with. If you're not familiar, Life Force 8 consists of eight very basic human needs/desiers which are biologically programmed in each and every one of us. These are the 8 things that humans really want more than anything else. If you hit any of these desires very well into your banners, your ads will be very effective.

1. Survival, enjoyment of life, life extension.
2. Enjoyment of food and beverages.
3. Freedom from fear, pain, and danger.
4. Sexual companionship.
5. Comfortable living conditions.
6 To be superior, winning, keeping up with the Joneses.
7. Care and protection of loved ones.
8. Social approval.

Check out Finch’s blog here that discusses this topic in detail: https://finchsells.com/2012/06/13/an...your-campaigns. Hope this helps!

If this is too much for you, you can actually get some intel from your Affiliate Managers on diffebanners sample and what kind of ads work well for the offers. They should be able to provide you with some banners that you can use to start testing right away.

Hope this helps!

A note here: testing multiple angles first as matuloo and machix are suggesting is a solid alternative approach to testing mobile ads.

However, if you're going to follow the Appetiser, that's not how it's laid out: the Appetiser follows a one-angle-at-a-time approach.

So be aware that if you go for a multi-angle approach you may get a little confused later in the course when you hit the optimisation stages.

To follow the Appetiser method, start with 8 banners targeting the same angle, as mentioned in "Starting The Cook" in the Appetiser tutorial.
