Hi guys,
Firstly sorry if you were entering this thread hoping to find an eCom guru...I'm not.
However I have been making good money online for the past 2-3 years selling digital products in the launch space, turning over couple mill in rev and pocketing nearly 1m profit.
So essentially I launch products, make money and then have the lists that I blast like a mo'fo from various places.
That's the bread and butter, but at times I don't feel like I have a proper business.
In addition, I want to get out of the launch space, and the churn and burn email game.
I have never paid a dime for traffic, which is why i'm here i guess.
I just want to point out, I have huge concentration issues and I get side tracked very easily at the start of a new project, and during it, even if things are going ok - this is something i need to work on to fix.
I have been dreaming of a long term career in eCom for a long time, and recently I had some down time and decided to dive in.
I watched hours of content, various courses I found online, and eventually opened a
I decided on a general store so i can test various products out etc.
To date I've spent about $500 on ads and sold around $100 of goods, so yeah I havent exactly worked it out yet....
But I'm happy i spent that money as I now Know how to use the facebook ads platform etc...
I also know how to run
There just a few things In my head that are missing, that I need to work out properly, before wasting any more money.
Those things are the following:
- What images to use for the facebook ads - for example should i just use the images from Ali, should i touch them up, should i add a banner at the bottom saying 'free shipping' or the like, so it stands out?!!
- Whats the best pricing to go with, free + shipping?? item + shipping?? item + free shipping?? etc
- What style of ad copy should I use?? emojis, 2 lines, 3 lines, lots of text etc...
Looking further down the line...
- how do i structure a team that helps me run this business?
- what tasks should they be doing?
These are all questions I believe someone "in the know" would know.
They would have a blueprint that "works every time" and tbh I need to know the answers to these before wasting more dosh!
I am open to paying someone for the correct info on all these topics i have highlighted.
If anyone is willing to share info, feel free. If you want money, pm me!
Anyway, thanks alot guys, looking to learn more from everyone here.
Looking forward to seeing answers for this thread!
Facebook doesn't allow text over the images or they'll limit your ability to serve.
Price your item to include shipping and still make a profit (account for acquisition costs too). Item+Free Shipping is the standard these days. Asking the customer to pay extra for normal shipping in 2017 is a conversion killer.
Your adcopy should be designed around your target audience, your unique value proposition as a retailer and your products unique value proposition. If you're selling socks to to women you could talk about how "comfortable & warm" they are. Mentioning free shipping is a common retailer value proposition to include in ads.
Structure the team around your weaknesses and needs. What will free your time up to allow you to maximize what you are best at? I'm solid at traffic acquisition & analytics but I'm weak in design and development. The answer requires honest self assessment of your skill set and needs of the business, so I can't give you a perfect answer.
One thing you don't mention here is what research you're doing into your target markets and targeting.
From the results you mention, the first place I'd look to diagnose issues would be your targeting and your market.
Are you targeting the same markets you've been serving with list traffic, or new markets? And how are you setting up and deriving your targeting for your ads?
Given you have some converting lists, if you're not hammering the Lookalike Audiences hard, I'd definitely start on that.
Thanks for the tips -

I guess what I'm lookin for is some kind of database where I can see succesful ecommerce ads for this type of business model - fb + ali dropshipping
Does anyone have any examples, or guides or databses of ad copy and images i can take a look at?
Caurmen, in terms of research I think I am ok with that, and the targeting is fine for now.
I am not targeting the people on my list. That is completely different niche, make money.
I've just a general store selling all sorts of physical items for now.
Any further tips would be great.
cheers
FWIW, one of the biggest recurring themes I've been hearing from interviewing big-numbers ecomm experts for the Ecommerce Cookbook is "don't run a general store". The general opinion seems to be that niched stores do a lot better right now.
However, if you're confident you can gain traction with your general store, more power to you, and let us know how you get on!
In terms of ad spies - try http://nicheminer.co/ . It's not perfect but it will help you dig up popular FB ads for products similar to yours.
I don't recommend a general store if you are just starting out and don't have 10,20k to blow on testing.
We just launched a general store, and so far we're 5k invested, and 700 revenue and no real winner yet. Compare that to our niche store, which got going on 1k. This general store is hard as hell, because we are targeting different keywords for every single product vs keeping the targeting the same passionate audience, and trying different products to see which makes them 'engage' the most and express interest to buy.
