Swipe or not to swipe (6)

Ok so I've been told when running campaigns to swipe and deploy and "don't reinvent the wheel" a number of times however when it comes to adult I've been told to actually innovate in order to succeed in this area(create brand new lp's, banners, etc) because everybody in this area uses the exact same material over and over again so with that being said it leaves me a little confused on what to actually do...do i swipe and deploy do I make my own creatives what is the best way to approach this

This is a problem I pondered for quite a long time so I'd like to chime in.

I'm a "hard worker", always have been, always will be. So initially when I started the idea of stealing someone's stuff just felt wrong. So I started by looking around and "taking action" and created my own stuff, all of which failed miserably. I did this for quite a long time and actually lost a ton of cash. Whether it was creating new banners, angles, landers etc. they all flopped.

Now that isn't to say you shouldn't come up with your own stuff or take action, but initially you won't know what works, so most likely 99% of what you create won't work. Also Adult is in many cases counter intuitive, in that what you think will work won't, and the thing that seems like the dumbest idea will actually kill it.

For example have you ever browsed Pornhub or some spy tool and see some ridiculously dumb banner/angle and just thought "who the fuck would fall for that?". Well, why don't you try swiping it and see? Often the results will surprise you. More times then not the banner/angle/landing page that you thought will never work because it's so dumb will outperform the "creative genius" stuff that you created on your own.

So initially just swipe stuff to get a feel for what works, and then when you find something that kind of works, you should try to improve upon it. Save yourself the time of trying to come up with your own stuff initially, because trust me you won't understand what works, and thus won't be able to come up with anything worthwhile. Later with more experience is when you start to improvise with your own ideas.

It's the same pretty much in any vertical : swipe/rip and make it different/better

It really works as jabong outlined, for many of us it's kinda unacceptable to steal work of others, so we initially waste a lot of money on useless attempts ... simply because we have no idea about what can work. Then we rip a few banners/LPs and we realize what the funnel should look like. Now it's time to innovate and modify, because if you stop at this point, you will be just another copycat, hovering around the break-even point and never really making it.

So yes, swipe, but do it to get inspiration, don't expect to run a successful sustainable business just by copying what others do.
