Stuck in the Middle

Hi everyone,

After about a hundred negative ROI campaigns, I've found an offer that is promising and hopefully will get a positive ROI soon.

I'll try to be as specific as possible about my campaign stats and I hope some of the more experienced members here can help me out.

So, let's get into it.

Offer: Subscription One click (carrier billing)
Traffic source: Popads
Payout: $3,00
Max bid: $0,005
GEO: Tier 2
OS: Android

DAY 1:
visits: 22.977
clicks: 12.132
conversions: 18
revenue: $ 54,00
cost: $ 83,95
CTR: 52,80%
ROI: -35,67%

DAY 2:
visits: 27.692
clicks: 15.659
conversions: 17
revenue: $ 51,00
cost: $ 101,17
CTR: 56,55%
ROI: - 49,59%

using Vortex's “kill-whitelist calculator” I killed 11 placements that costed too much and did not convert.

DAY 3:
visits: 8.919
clicks: 4.190
conversions: 3
revenue: $ 9,00
cost: $ 32,59
CTR: 46,98%
ROI: - 72,38%

using Vortex's “kill-whitelist calculator” I killed 5 more placements that costed too much and did not convert. I whitelisted 4 placements that looked promising (and BL them in my main campaign obviously).

DAY 4 main campaign:
visits: 4.936
clicks: 3.700
conversions: 5
revenue: $ 15,00
cost: $ 18,03
CTR: 74,96%
ROI: - 16,82%

using Vortex's “kill-whitelist calculator” I killed 11 more placements that costed too much and did not convert. I introduced new lander that starts on day 5 for both campaigns.

DAY 4 whitelisted placements:
visits: 3.233
clicks: 2.614
conversions: 4
revenue: $ 12,00
cost: $ 9,67
CTR: 80,85%
ROI: 24,13% (HOORAY!!!)

no placements to kill.

DAY 5 main campaign:
visits: 5.023
clicks: 1.625
conversions: 0
revenue: $ 0,00
cost: $ 17,09
CTR: 32,35%
ROI: - 100%

DAY 5 whitelisted placements:
visits: 1.002
clicks: 350
conversions: 0
revenue: $ 0,00
cost: $ 4,66
CTR: 34,93%
ROI: - 100%

My campaign did not convert the whole day... (WTF?). NO placements to kill. I paused both after few hours.

DAY 6 main campaign:
visits: 4.698
clicks: 1.552
conversions: 2
revenue: $ 6,00
cost: $ 15,12
CTR: 33,04%
ROI: - 60,32%

No placements to kill or whitelist. I targeted more specifically Devices, because I noticed that only some were converting.

DAY 6 whitelisted placements:
visits: 566
clicks: 290
conversions: 0
revenue: $ 0,00
cost: $ 3,23
CTR: 51,24%
ROI: - 100%

total revenue: $ 135,00 + $ 12 whitelisted

total cost: $ 267,95 + $ 17,56 whitelisted

I am using 2 landers.

Both my landers utilize scarcity, urgency and they “trap” the user inside. I am using one lander from the day 1 (100%) and then on the day 5 I introduced the second lander (50%-50%).

My question:
I am stuck because in the last 2 days and after different adjustments the ROI is not getting better and stuck on -53% on main campaign and -45% on whitelisted (lifetime campaign). There must be something I am doing wrong?

Any advice will be highly appreciated.

Hey, roykoda!

Could you please tell us more about your algorithm of optimization? Did you kill some bad OSs, Carriers, Browsers?

Hi Mr. Braun,

thanks for your reply.

I have targeted only one carrier.

The only OS admitted was Android.

first I performed the bot-test, and my traffic seems to be ok. Not pure human, but 20% max was bot.

than what I did, in past days, is to kill the placements that spend a twice and more of payout and did not convert. Amy's post on how to kill and whitelist placements you can find here.

I started a day-parting as I noticed that the offer was converting on few hours during the day.

On day 6 I targeted more specifically the devices as I noticed only some smartphones were converting while others were not.

I did not target specifically the browsers yet.

update:

DAY 7 (today):
I targeted specifically devices and browsers before I started to run it today, but just before I started, I got an e-mail from my AM that this offer on this carrier is paused. So I have no stats for today.

OK no problem. I Found the same offer on two different carriers, for the same GEO and I started to run them.

I have a question:
When I whitelist some placements, I duplicate a campaign with exactly the same bid/settings as "old" one and my placements whitelisted, but what I noticed happens is that I do not get any traffic at all and I have to bid incredibly high just to get some.
I DO blacklist my placements in an "old" campaign, so I'm not competing against myself.
Is that normal?
