Quite a Depressing Article By Finch Sells For Newbie like me!

As a complete newbie who have not launched a single campaign and knocked the door of affiliate marketing in April 2017 I read an article by industry expert Finch.

Why I Quit Launching Affiliate Campaigns

After reading his article there is one thing in my mind, "Am I the stupid late-comer who arrives after the party is over".

I joined STM with lots of excitement but this article just left me thinking should I really go with aff marketing? if yes then what direction?

I would like the experienced as well as newbie to through some light on the what's working and whats coming in 2017? If I'm not asking for too much.

Thanks. BTW I'm loving this forum.

So one critical article destroys your motivation?
Start launching campaigns instead of reading blogs (you can read blogs later while collecting data).

People will always be saying the party is over. When I got into AM in 2009 everyone was saying all the easy money was gone and regulations made things too hard, etc. etc. Same thing in 2012 and same thing now. You won't always be able to make money using the same system that worked 5 years ago, but just be innovative and try stuff. The fact that this forum is still active and there are still major affiliate meetups all over the world should be an indication the industry is still big.

There always will be people starting and quitting.

Finch has been in the industry for a decade and he might need a change.

Doing the same thing over and over might get just boring after few years.

But it definitely does not mean that the game is over.

There are still so much money to be made and the possibilities and combinations are endless.

Until there will be advertisers with offers, the show will be on.

So long Finch and thx for the fish.
In a world full of crappy blogs you were a shining jewel.

It's normal to have mixed feelings on your start. Reading articles on public blogs and stuff it's like reading the newspaper everyday, some things are real some are fake.

The truth is, nothing is easy yet nothing's impossible.

Start failing and keep learning, you won't get disappointed

I started in affiliate marketing in 2002/2003. At that point there was articles being written about it dying & getting hard.

It's still here alive and well... it's just constantly shifting and evolving.

Poker had some "dying" articles too. And I also say very often that "poker is dead" which just means that for me, it's not as viable of an option as before, for many reasons.

It's not only about the amount of money you can make, it's how you can make it, how fun it is, flexibility, etc.

I can see why some parts of affiliate marketing can get boring and turn into a job. I didn't follow Finch very closely, but I think he is a proponent of the digital nomad lifestyle where he works wherever he wants from and doesn't hire or do "corporate" stuff.

That automatically means you have to put in almost all the work, or nothing gets done. There's a way higher chance of getting sick of it if you have to put in the grunt work for so many years. Add the fact that there are always new opportunities showing up - it's clear that at one point you want to change.

Finally, absolute statements get more attention if not overused, so it's good to throw some every now and then.

Such a positive response from veteran as well as new members. Thanks for encouragement.
I just launched my first ever campaign of "one click-carrier billing" with Mobidea using propellar ads.
Not expecting a lot just learning the tools of trade.
I used this thread started by Vortex as template to start.

Hello dr.pulp

I'm in am since 1998 and saw the sky falling a few times already ...

Here are 2 articles from me that you might want to read :

1. https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...ighlight=lived
2. https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...-Dirty-Secrets

Finch is an awesome dude, I feel safe to say that, even though we never met in person. He is an awesome writer and I've read many of his awesome guides ... but as Erik already said, looks like he needs a change. I was in a similar situation myself, couple years ago ... shit get's boring and it's easy to loose motivation when you're doing something for such a long period of time, we all need challenges ... that's why I decided to climb out from under the rock and started a blog, started to post on forums, going to conferences ... Finch will definitely find his own new challenges and I wish him the best of luck on his future journey.

But affiliate marketing is not going anywhere, it's just changing, like it always does.
