Mobile pops and sweeps journey
Hi,
I’m Robert, 25 years old, software developer, living in Timisoara, Romania. Working as a software developer is ok, but I want to do a business not trade my time for money and try new things, so with the help and recommendations of my friend Manu (manu_adefy) I decided to try AM.
My current traffic sources: Popads, Adcash
Current networks: Mobidea, Yep Ads
Tracker: Voluum
Hosting: AWS S3 + Cloudfront + Route 53
So, here is my first campaign:
Offer: Sweeps
Traffic source: Popads
Payout: $1.65
Max bid: $0.003
GEO: Italy
I have started with low bid, cut some bad placements and I saw there is not enough volume so I tried high bid, this one was bad so I stopped for now (I spent ~50$ and got only 2 conversions).. so, now i’m trying mid bid and my stats looks like this:

I’m thinking to spend like $20-25 more on this campaign to gain enough data because now I’m not seeing what I can cut.. maybe from category the “General/ Internet / File Sharing” and from OS the “Android 6 / 0”.
Do you guys have any suggestions?
Thank you!!!

STM's the right place
We had a lot of talks in private already so will let the community chime in before I give more input.

Hey,
So, for now I decided to pause this campaign, it's looks like this : http://imgur.com/a/kTVEL
I started to read a lot of Follow Alongs and posts to learn faster and to try correct my mistakes, this week I will continue with the reading/learning and want to write down a process what I need to do on each campaign I start.
As a conclusion on my first campaign:
- I think I started to cut placements too earlier
- I need to test more offers, not only 2
- Maybe Italy is not the best GEO for a newbie
- I saw they are some differences Voluum -> PopAds, you spend more money than Voluum show in the "cost" tab, need to be aware of this when you see your "green" ROI
I will keep updated this thread when I start a new campaign.
Cheers

Cutting placements early is not always a bad thing. If you're running in a big geo and/or carrier, and getting a lot of traffic, cutting early can be a great strategy. When you find a good offer+lander, you can always retest some of the bigger placements you've cut before.
But yes - you realized a VERY important thing: Test more than one offer. Also, are you testing any landers? Or are you just direct-linking? Sweeps normally don't convert well with direct-linking. I've given a rough outline on how to run sweeps on pop at the end of this post:
https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...l=1#post293497
Italy is not the worst geo for a newbie, but there are definitely easier geos. Some examples:
Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Bangladesh, Egypt, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Argentina, Malaysia, Colombia, United Arab Emirates, Peru, Chile, Algeria, Iran, Iraq, Singapore, Czech Republic, Greece, Morocco, Hungary, Ecuador, Kuwait, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Bolivia, Kenya, Ghana
You're absolutely right about the need to check popads stats to find out the REAL costs! The discrepancy between voluum and popads is different for every geo and other targeting. For TH it's especially bad - exactly for the reason you said - I need to see 100% ROI in voluum to know I'm actually JUST breaking even in reality!
Another thing: Next time, don't spend $50 on testing an offer that has such a low payout! If I were you, I would bid slightly above average (the average bid recommended by the popads estimator - bidding average will get you traffic that doesn't have very bad quality) and spend at MOST 10x payout on the offer - if it doesn't show any promise at all, I'd much rather test a new offer. I'd rather use $50 to test 5 offers, and take the risk of cutting a potentially-profitable offer, than to spend that $50 on a single offer.
Looking forward to seeing your new camp!
Amy

Hi Amy,
Yes I run the campaign with lander, not direct linking. I tested with 1 lander which is probably the best from other guys experience (I have talked before with more friends, that's why I kind of skipped trying more landers).
Thank you so much for taking your time to write your suggestions.. I plan to try other GEO, maybe some from your list
Good one with the budget I have spent.. I will keep in mind to spend less, maximum 10x Payout/offer!
I will keep updated this thread when I start a new campaign.
Thank you!!
Robert
