Hey guys,
I'm trying to get a nginx php-fpm apc memcache server setup to handle some mobile traffic. I have a clould based server at liquidweb and I believe everything is installed. I need someone to double check it and tweak it. Is there a good place to find server gurus? (Oh, I can't use tech support as this is outside their core LAMP support).
So any recommendations? Where do you guys go for server support?
Thanks!
I'd post the question on StackOverflow. It's a really well known programer Q&A resource and they have a really high concentration of very skilled guys. Ask your question and get a job set up with the guy that had the best and most knowledgeable answers.
Edit: For stuff like this you really want to avoid places like oDesk/Elance/etc. Get someone that's a true expert and pay him what he's worth.
well...i' say switch from rackspace to beyond....tyler is great.....very helpful with things like that....
also not to shit on rackspace....but they have a horrible hardware problems and down time issues.....at least thats what I have heard.....for instance Mundo had that big outage with them for a few days no less...
oops, I had a typo. I'm with Liquidweb not Rackspace.
I emailed Tyler about a vps a few days ago and he didn't seem interested, said they don't do many manual installs of nginx, php-fpm.
It took some iterations, but even a caveman like me was able to build out a nginx server (for cpvlab) from the cookbooks i found here:
http://www.howtoforge.com/howtos/web-server/nginx
Just takes time, and a will to win....
if you are with LW I would still move... I was with them and have watched them become poorer and poorer in the quality of their response (and so have others)
[TYLER... you need to clone yourself, bro

damn, i am with LW
worked with them for a while to get my server tweaked but since my ticket was being passed around from tech to tech, nothing really got done.
i finally got a hold of a senior tech and it seems to have tweaked it well enough, we shall see. fyi, i couldn't get a senior tech to work on the problem until the ticket was a WEEK old...
I'm a server admin by profession, if you need help, PM me, lets discuss
i got some very good eastern european server guys via odesk. Use the tutorials linked to above and elsewhere and setup the server yourself (good to know the basics), then hire one of those guys to do the server optimisation. Will set you back $20 for 2 or 3 hours, but it will be well worth it.
Make sure you get them to document what they change.
