Hello everyone,
This is my first follow along but not my first campaigns.
My chosen vertical is adult content pins and chosen traffic source is pop traffic.
I’ve spent close to $1450 now over the past 2 months. And I’m getting to the point where I’m feeling I need to switch verticals or do something entirely different.
I’ve used Popads, popcash, zeropark, hilltopads, and exoclick. So far I’ve had most success with exoclick.
Yesterday I launched 4 Geos using popunder traffic:
BR, RU, FR, and IN
BR:
Had an offer recommendation of my affiliate manager.
I started with split testing the recomended offer direct link vs. Afflow adult smartlink VS
The offer from my affiliate manger direct linked performed significant better early on so I changed the funnel to send all the traffic to that one.
Spent: $38.37
Rev: $13.31
Profit: ($25.06)
ROI: -65.31%
67 conversions total, 56 from DL offer, 6 from Afflow adult smartlink, 5 from
I created a white list (with higher bid) campaign for the placements getting conversions and added more in as conversions came in on the first campaign and blacklisted them from the original campaign, however, strangely the conversion rate was completely different on the white list campaign. And the whitelist campaign got barely any conversions in comparison?
On the first campaign I was bidding $4cpm and on the whitelist campaign I was bidding $8cpm.
In the original BR campaign I had one placement with 31 conversions in it after 902 visits and had a conversion rate of 3.44%, but in the whitelist campaign it had 475 visits and only 1 conversion for a conversion rate of 0.21%. Any ideas why this would be?
The whitelist campaign:
spend: $23.43
rev: $2.19
profit ($21.24)
ROI: -90.66%
Little disappointing that the whitelist campaign performed much worse and conversions did not remain anywhere near consistent on the same placements.
For the RU campaign:
I set this one up because of a different affiliate manager’s recommendation. Again I split test it against Afflow and mobidea’s adult smartlinks.
This time the Afflow link performed significantly better and I cut the other and I just set the flow to send all the traffic there.
Wasn’t able to spend all my budget for it.
Spent $11.15
Revenue: $3.78
Profit ($7.37)
ROI: -66.09
8 conversions total, 6 from afflow adult smartlink, 2 from mobidea adult smartlink, 0 from recommended offer (I was direct linking)
I did increase the bid to try to get more traffic and I’m still running it.
Question: If I’m not able to spend money easily on here could this mean the geo is to saturated and/or not enough inventory here and I shouldn’t bother with this campaign?
As for FR:
I chose this geo randomly and just used the afflow and mobidea adult smart links without any offers of my own added in.
Spend: $21.42
Rev: $8.47
Profit ($12.95)
ROI: -60.44%
4 conversions total, 2 from the afflow adult smart link and 2 from the mobidea adult smartlink.
The mobidea smartlink produced double the revenue though.
I’m going to look to finding some offers to add in to the rotation.
IN:
Again I just chose this geo randomly. Used afflow and mobidea adult smart links.
Spend: $24.85
Rev: $3.48
Profit: ($21.37)
ROI: -86%
In this case the afflow link did better (17 conversions) than mobidea’s (1 conversion). 18 total.
I’m not sure what I’ll do with this one. I supposed I could find my own IN offers and test them against the afflow funnel.
The questions I am having right now:
1. Are any of these campaigns worth pursuing? Or should I just kill them and test new geos? (It’s my understand that a winning campaign will be very easily spotted and will start out at break even or maybe -30% ROI)
2. I have no idea what a good landing page looks like for this vertical. And live spying isn’t effective with simply using hidemyass. I can’t see the real landing pages or offer pages. And I can’t spend the money for geo edge to spoof my IP as a carrier IP. I understand that this vertical can work using direct linking, however I want to reverse engineer what is working, not figure it out for myself with trial and error. I feel like I would be silly to try to think up my own landing pages and spend all kinds of time doing that and creating them. It’s my understanding this game is about reverse engineering what is working. If there is no way for me to do that, then maybe I should get out of this vertical all together and do something like AV or sweeps where I can at least do some reverse engineering?
3. How should I proceed with the campaigns above, and how should I proceed with this in general ?
Hey there!
First thing - even though Smartlink is built to monetize all traffic, it is better to not buy traffic from a random GEO, as still there are GEOs performing better/worse than the others. And are you targeting carriers? It is important, as they perform differently in one GEO, so please, speak with the Account Manager to know the best segment (GEO+carrier).
Which devices are you targeting?
With which traffic source did each campaign convert? In your first campaign, what was the traffic source, and total amount of traffic you've got?
Make sure you have blacklisted the placement in the original campaign. Otherwise you are competing with yourself.
RU campaign - what was the traffic source, again?
It really might be that this particular source does not have a large volume of Russian traffic.
Try to make a blacklist instead of whitelist so you don't miss any possibly converting traffic.
