How I made my first dollar in marketing with a story about a giant hairball (5)

How I made my first dollar in marketing with a story about a giant hairball

They say that the attention span on facebook is only a few seconds. Here's how I know that's complete BS.

I wrote the following facebook post. To my friends. Using an Amazon Affiliates store code:

"I'd like to tell you a story. A long time ago I was an apartment manager. I would get called up to people's apartments to fix little things here and there.
One night I get called up to a lady's apartment.

She was a little odd to say the least......

She lived there alone with her son. And she treated her son who must have been 12 or 13 like he was 5. She did everything for him. Practically chewed his food for him. Totally infantalized this poor little guy.
She didn't speak a lot of english.
And to be honest, I would hear her through walls sometimes crying. I think her husband had left (I'm not even sure how she was making rent at this point). The whole scene was pretty heartbreaking. She waves me into the apartment and takes me to her sink. It's completely clogged.

Now I take a look around and see that her bathroom is pretty messy. Everywhere around the sink is just caked with make up. She must have been crying and removing and reapplying makeup at this sink multiple times per day.

I see two empty bottles of Drano by the sink.
Well shit. That was going to be what I tried. At this point I'm out of ideas. At the same time I'm very happy to have an excuse to leave this apartment. Even for just a couple minutes.
I excuse myself, hop in my car, and head to the hardware store down the street.

I'm poking around in the drain section, and this old timer hardware store guy comes over and asks if he can help. At this point I'm just thinking about having to go back into this lady's apartment and deal with this whole scene again. So for whatever reason I tell this old timer my entire story.
He just smiles at me in the way that wise old guys do and points to a little strip of plastic on the wall and walks off. This thing looks like a super long strip with fish hook like barbs all down the sides. The drano bottles are like $20 a piece and this think costs like $7. I'm pretty skeptical but at this point I'm willing to try anything.

Fast forward. I've forced myself to return to the American Horror Story episode that is going on in this apartment. She shows me back to the bathroom and stares at me while I pull this crazy plastic thing out of the hardware store bag and start to slide it down the sink drain. I manage to shove it as far down as it will go and then I start pulling.
I can't even begin to describe the horror that was wrapped around the barbs of this strip of plastic.

I'm pulling out years worth of hair and caked makeup and god knows what else from this poor lady's sink.
Her face is frozen in shock and embarrassment.
I'm barely keeping my dinner down.
I pull off this twisted makeup hair demon from the strip with a wad of toilet paper and toss it in the plastic bag.

And then I go back for more.

I get 2 more full catches of nightmare fuel from my little fishing expedition before this sink is clean.

But by god, did that thing drain like it was brand new after that.
Tonight I used my trusty little strip (the same one I bought that day years ago) and I used it to clean my own tub drain.

Got quite a catch.

So friends next time you have a clogged sink or tub. Remember that smiling old timer's advice. Hell you might want to even try one of these things now before you have to deal with the misshapen lump of terror that will build up over too much time.

I put a link in the comments.
You can get a 3 pack of these little guys for $5.99 on Amazon right now. Trust me. It's worth it."

I got 80 likes, 80 clicks, a 5% conversion rate and made my first $7 in affiliate marketing from that post. I wrote it about 2 weeks ago. I have no idea how Pops or traffic sources or anything else works. But I have to say I'm really looking forward to learning. This stuff is pretty fun and I'm very thankful to have found STM!

Sorry if I failed on following any posting rules! As I said. Totally rookie.

Cheers!

Well done - shows how much people love to hear a story.

Here's more info for those who are interested in using sotrytelling: https://copyhackers.com/2016/04/stor...er-of-stories/

Haha nice one! This kind of made up stories could result in some seriously good prelanders man!

I remember a guy made his first revenue by sitting down at a flea market with his laptop, and gave everyone a free beer/soda if they joined a survey (full of sponsors and co-regs ofcourse).

Story telling and native advertising is indeed the way to go, especially on FB. People love a good read, hanging onto the lips of a good speaker.

If you disguise your ads in a heartfellt story, something funny and catchy, on FB it will take off. You made 7$ without any paid advertising on FB? Good stuff - now get some more paid traffic to that same story, see if those metrics hold up so you can add some more zeros to that number.

The funny thing is the story is about 90% true hahahaha. Now I'm searching through my past for any of the other strange things that have happened and see if there might be a little gold in it.
