My Landing Page That Crashed And Burned

Hey Guys,

I came across an LP I put together for the CouponAlert toolbar offer on A4D and other networks. I tried to make this work but just didn't know enough about anything at the time.

Here's the LP: www.paper2coupon.com

If you refresh the page it'll switch the main image. I had Prosper track for that, and I found that the scissors image outperformed the printer at a rate of 3:1.

This LP had TERRIBLE stats. What did I do wrong?

Thanks guys,
ATG

What traffic source did you try? Targetting?

What percentage of people to the LP clicked through to the offer? And, of those who did, what percentage downloaded?

First of all, I'd cut down on the amount of text drastically. Give people the main benefits more clearly -- think bam, benefit 1, bam, benefit 2, bam, benefit 3. This isn't rocket science; you're not convincing people to take out the plastic. It's a toolbar that will be downloaded on a whim -- hey, coupons, cool! Yeah, I want that! -- not after a long period of consideration of its benefits. So hit users in their face with why they need this, and don't overcomplicate things with a bunch of text.

Second, consider making your lander look less, well, neat. Neat can be ok, depending on what you sell -- but in this case there's a disconnect, because the actual Coupon Alerts page is goddamned fugly -- you just can't help but go "Huh? Did I click the right button?" when you click the download button on your LP. I'd try to style your page after the Coupon Alerts page -- same colors, similar fonts, etc.

Third, MindSpark has done you a massive favor by not giving a whole ton of details about the toolbar on their download page. This means you can angle this offer however you want. So, sit down, brainstorm a tight angle -- people who are looking for X, and X specifically -- and then design your LP around that.

One thing to add: The fact that the scissors outperformed the printer should be a big clue. Scissors plus dotted line communicates coupons immediately, printer convers, well, printing. Hit customers harder and more directly. Look at the Coupon Alerts page. it is styled like a coupon. Its logo has a pair of scissors in it. This sucker hits you over the head repeatedly with the fact that it's a coupon offer. Do the same in your LP.

Thanks for sharing this with us. Let us know what changes you make and tell us when you get this sucker profitable.

That's a great review! I really appreciate it!

I'm not at the machine that has the records of this campaign, but I'll post all the data you just asked about tomorrow!

well, crashing and burning applies that it was already running and something went wrong.

It's all about the messaging. Just put a great headline in the center and a CTA button under it

Hey man,

Did you considered going the "KISS" route first? If so you can try something like this:

If you're interested in the PSD, shortly drop me a note on Skype ;-)
